This album really kicks ass, that's all I can say. Juno Reactor show that they haven't lost it like so many other psy producers. Only minus about the album is that it's a little short, but the great tracks more than make up for that. Rating: 8/10.
That's exactly my view too. In here you can still discuss the good old goa producers and get meaningful replies unlike other places. That's why I don't see the need of posting in other psy forums. I still post occasionally on tranceaddict though (regular trance was where it began for me).
What he said, although you shouldn't always trust the "red marking". I've experienced that unmarked compilations are far better than the marked ones, but that's just taste I guess. Check out the reviews of different compilations, and you'll get a picture of which tracks and albums which are worth getting. Some searching in the forums is also a good idea (search for "oldschool", "classics" etc).
A mate asked me to identify some tracks for him. These two I wasn't able to id (even though the second one is awfully familiar ):
Sample 1 - maybe Psydrop?
Sample 2 - Acid line...
Any help would be appreciated.....
Note that this album and the other Synaesthesia albums were written by Richard Deckard aka "Dekkard", only the producing and "sonic manipulation" was done by Leeb and Fulber alias FLA and Delerium. In other words Synaesthesia can't be called a real "side project" of Delerium, because they didn't really make the music.
I'm not really sure how to explain it, I like some ambient and downtempo, but this just didn't do it for me. Perhaps it's because I recognize the tech-trance tunes when I listen and want the tunes to be more banging, I don't know. I probably should listen to it again sometime soon.
I may be the only one, but this album didn't do it for me. It started nice enough with some nice melody work, but then track after track came along with the same structure and intense melody use. Way too samey IMO, one track in a compilation may be great, but a whole album is just way too much. This isn't meant as criticism or anything as the album definetely hit full score with many people, but to me this isn't the essence of real oldschool goa. Just my two cents.....
I am a big Oliver Lieb fan, but I just can't get into these reworkings. I'm not saying it's bad music, but it just isn't my style. I much prefer disc 2 with the original tunes and a couple of "techy" remakes. That one is a definite 10/10 in my books (or 11/10 if you'd like )
I voted Dragonfly, but it's not fair really just to pick one. Blue Room, Twisted, Flying Rhino, Nova Tekk, TIP were all great labels, and I'd also like to add Sub Terranean who released some class comps.
For compilations I'd recommend the Tantrance series, especially the early ones. Very high quality, almost every track featured are great. May not be very easy to find, but if you stumble across it you shouldn't hesitate.
You can try Gemm or Amazon, various sellers sell their stuff through these sites, both new and used. You may have to go for a used copy though, as these cds may not be easy to find new.
