From underground psytrance as Yumade to commercially succesful neo disco as Yuksek

I found this great Tripiatrik live set at Youtube:

It's actually a mix of mostly Paps and Yumade tracks, and one Tripiatrik track, nonetheless, great stuff.

I was a bit surprised by a comment: Pierre Busson, aka Yumade, is currently making disco flavored electronic music as Yuksek.

And he's doing really good judging by the number of streams:

What other psytrance artists have managed to transition to other genres and become successful? The only other example I can think of is Infected Mushroom.

Interesting question, I think there might be some who for example have anymous new projects. In order to avoid some stigma perhaps associated with Psy, It's atleast something I've read about on another forum. Where people who had Goa projects in the 90s, today look back on it as something a bit cringey from their youth.

On the other hand I think there were also people who transitioned from more "regular" mainstream music into the Goa Trance market, when it became a short gold-rush. As with anything I guess some enter things based on trends/financial opportunities.

I think Infected Mushroom and other artists from Israel who were embraced by both the Psy scene and more mainstream market segments, had a good formula. Astral Projection I see as one of the few groups who didn't need to compromise on their style. It has stayed more or less the same in essence. And is still widely popular it would seem. :)

I find it very hard to believe that anyone would transition from mainstream music to Goa trance to make money. I can't think of one example.

Astral Projection are certainly appreciated in the psytrance community, but I wouldn't say they are widely popular nor appreciated by mainstream markets. They have 77 970 monthly streams @ Spotify, that's far from widely popular. Dance Is The Answer is their latest "hit", and it hasn't even got one million streams.

Yuksek has some real bangers! I love that Icare remix, among many others.

Here's another surprising case of evolution... remember Cyan?

Nick from Cyan now releases melodic house as Nick Devon (and some of it is pretty great):

Oh yeah, and remember Eskimo? I'll let you look up JOYRYDE on your own time...

For "mainstream" into the Goa foray there were several in the 90s, with mainstream in these cases I count radio friendly club music. For example in Sweden we had several such cross-overs. I Savastano, and others who often made remixes of Goa tracks or in some cases hade pure Goa projects, which were short-lived once the Goa hype died. The cross-over between Miranda, Earthbound, Antiloop etc were others. And with AP as popular I based that on the type of venues they still play at, for Goa Trance they still bring quite large numbers. Even if they aren't perhaps near the album sales numbers they were in their prime. But not many are these days I'd say. Streams will probably not give the full picture of a project/artists success anyways. These are just my observations, and I'm in no way an expert. The labels and artists themselves should have the full picture.

And yes you are probably correct in your assertion that Astral Projection might not be super recognized in mainstream circuits, not as much as Infected atleast. But still I'd say they are among the most well known, along with Hallucinogen probably for Goa atleast. In the 90s obviously things were a bit different. And they enjoyed quite a bit of "mainstream" success with music video on MTV if I remember correctly. But sure for people like me who eat and breathe Goa, one might perhaps see things from quite a narrow perspective. :D In my world AP are as big as one can get. ;)

It would be interesting to know how AP are perceived in Israel? Are they well known by people in general there? Or part of somekind of underground movement? I've seen some interviews with AP on Israeli TV-Shows on youtube, which aren'from the 90s atleast. But I have no clue about what they're talking about. And I don't know what type of TV channels those are either. If they are small local city channels or some big ones. Maybe someone here on the forum who lives there can enlighten us?

btw @Trolsk is it possible to get some statistics like the one you provided from Spotify from Youtube?

And is it only me who finds it a bit weird that the remix of Let There Be Light by Outsiders has so many streams in comparison to the rest of AP's tracks? Firstly because it is a really old track from the 90's that's remixed, and secondly because I haven't heard of Outsiders before. (Since primarly listen to old school Goa).

So yeah either they're some really popular artist on spotiy, or there might some bought stream farms at work. Which isn't particularly uncommon these days, with purchased streams, followers, likes etc.
