CONDA. Posted January 20, 2006 Share Posted January 20, 2006 Hi there.. I have been addicted to psytrance for about 4 years now, and lately i have been extremely interested in making psytrance. I've searched alot on the internet, but never really seemed to get the right answers so here goes: What would you sugest as a good 'getting started kit' for making psytrance? Psychocell Posted January 20, 2006 Share Posted January 20, 2006 1) You'll need a pc obviously prefferably a desktop with enough power and space, and make sure your soundcard surports the software you'll be using. 2) Some Software - Start off with programs like FruityLoops, once you get a feel and understanding, go onto programs like Reason, Cubase, etc 3) When you feel you defiantely keen, get yourself a midi controller, makes life alot easier! 4) For Listening to what u producing go for a pair a monitor headphones, you could get Monitor Speakers, but you will piss your neighbors off And lastly, download as many samples(Wav Files) as you possibly can, makes the producing alot of fun Once u have all of that you on your way to having a amateur studio! I could recomend you any MIDI controler of M-audio. M-audio is excelents for start, because its cheap, and its famous by its quality. Its a company that invests on home producers, so not only controlers, they have others great products from a very fair price Now, you must understand that a midi controler is NOT like a synth for, that means it doesnt generate sounds and fx Even its very helpfull, the midi controler isnt "necessary", but it does give a musical feeling in your creation, because with it you can actually play the melody with your hand instead of the mouse I would say that a basic kit to have a nice start is - A PC with 252mb of RAM at minimun, and a nice soundcard -A software sequencer like Logic, Cubase, Fruity or Reason - Samples. You need drum kits samples especially. You can get then on the internet - Some VST. VST is "small" softwares with a especific function that will help you a lot. You can get a Synth VST for sounds and fx. I can upload presets if someone want some Polyiblit - Can make very good Basslines and very good supersaw sounds SuperwaveP8 - Can make very good supersaw sounds, can make sounds like Sytrus supersaw sounds. Can alzo upload presets. some effects like delay and reverp etc... that sound old but still have quality and some mastering plugins like compressors, limiters etc... Good old sound plugins for psychedelic music can be found here: http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-series.php That´s all for amateur and advanced psytrance producers, the Professionals use more synths and very expensive mastering tools. Suggestions like if you´re more advaced in making music go to cubase aren´t really good because you can make everything in FL Studio what you can do in cubase faster, easier and FL Studio has less cpu requiments than cubase, too. slyman604 Posted January 26, 2006 Share Posted January 26, 2006 i would actually suggest getting live 5 and albino. live 5 is nice because it has very nice tutorials that actually walk you through how to use it within the program itself. albino will have enough presets that you can get moving right away. live 5 has great built in effects too. im in the process of changeing from SX to live 5 for the bulk of the music making process, then mix the audio in cubase. Aeros Posted January 27, 2006 Share Posted January 27, 2006 For starters, you will not get much of a difference between FL and Cubase for your music, other than you'll find FL easier to use. Once you learn that and feel comfortable with it you can explore other programs and use them, the basics you will learn from FL will apply to Cubase or Reason, they are the same or very similar, just a different interface. Alternatively theres also Orion (cross between FL and Reason, sorta) and Jeskolla Buzz, but your best bet would be FL-Studio, but you MUST get yourself some VSTi plugins, Albino, Muon Tau, TBL, there are plenty out there. FL's synths can make some quality sounds but require alot of work, Sytrus 2 is alright but only as support...that is untill you know how to work it better.
