Hehe, but thats exactly what I wrote about - The comment about Total Eclipse is merely putting the band name in a context - I'm not saying that they MUSICALLY capture the "goa trance feeling" perfectly or even make a hint at my opinion of their music, I just pointed out that their NAME is extremely suitable for a goa trance act and that I like the name. Likewise, I judged the name Quirk based on how well it fits the band. I didn't say what I think about their music - Hell, I didn't even say I dislike their housier efforts. I just said the name Quirk doesn't fit as well when you're making prog-house-ish stuff. If we were ONLY to discuss the aesthetics of the name and in no way care if its fitting for the music etc, there is no point in limiting this to band names - We might just as well discuss beautiful combinations of letters, regardless of meaning or context. But as we're discussing band names, I kinda assumed that we were discussing how good the name was for the band, you know? =) BTW Kristian, a bit off topic here - were there more Sheyba tracks made than those that were released (Into The 4th Dimension, Ancient Lands, Ganesh, Trance Africa Express, Inside Out)? And if so - anything good hiding in the archives? =)

In fact, Hallucinator isn't on the album. But yeah, thats a very nice track too =) This isn't from 1994, it's from 1997. But yeah, it's very hard to find... I've been looking for it for quite some time.

This drifts a bit offtopic now, but I fell like I want to share my thoughts on this: I think one reason why artist don't release their unsigned tracks on the net is that it won't do them much good. In this business, everyone is struggling to get by - even most of the big names are a long way from getting rich. Every track you release generates income and spreads you name, which in return gets you more gigs. And every gig is a chance to get more people to buy your releases and generate a greater demand for your music. Free, downloadable tracks don't fit very well with this equation - the upside is ofcourse that more people get to know your music and you can attract more fans, but the downside is that people might get the idea that you music can be downloaded for free. Free tracks also divert atention away from the commercial releases, and thus from the whole circle of consumption that keeps you financially afloat in this industry. It's a fine balance...

The version distributed by Phonokol is from 1998 I believe, the one without any Phonokol info is the original Outmosphere version from 1994.

No hard feelings mate =)

Ouch, chill mate... It IS released on CD. At least 4 different CD's, at that. It's not even hard to find: http://www.discogs.com/release/208300 http://www.discogs.com/release/127980 http://www.discogs.com/release/48808 http://www.discogs.com/release/49236 In fact, the first one of those is STILL available through Psyshop: http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/pho/pho1cd036.html So, before you throw a tantrum, maybe it wouldn't hurt to check some facts. Trust me, that track is not the Ferarri Enzo of goa trance...
-
Now that's been brought up several times... but why, it's not rare at all? It's on the Rezwalker EP on Matsuri. Hell I even had three copies of that 12" for a while... Ok so it's not super-easy to find, but there's PLENTY of stuff thats harder to get ahold of. Not meaning to put you down here, I just felt this one track isn't as rare as it's made out to be =)

Agreed - I just mentioned this in another thread. I think "Blood Machine" and Steve's solo effort "Core" are absolutely outstanding. In terms of depth, musicianship and sheer quality they make anything from the psy-ambient camp seem clumsy, cliché and amateuristic. Now I *do* enjoy a fair bit of psy-ambient though, but Steve Roach is probably my second favourite artist of all time and even someone as undoubtedly talanted as Simon Posford cannot make music that gets me as much as mr Roach. But to each his own...
-
The rhythmic ambient that takes me places the most is that by Steve Roach. His "Core" and "Blood Machine" are VERY psychedelic journeys, I would pick them above any "psy-ambient" any day of the week. For me personally, Steve Roach is to Shpongle et al what 2D is to 3D. Now don't get me wrong, I like Shpongle (at least the first album is brilliant), but this is on a whole other level. Admittedly though, this is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison... but if we're talking (mostly) all-electronic, rhythmic, ambient and highly psychedelic music, the two albums mentioned above are among the most impressive pieces of work I've ever heard. Another highly recommended album is this: Solaroid - "First Wave". A very psychedelic journey, without ever stooping to cliché drug samples and silly sounds. This is deep, dead serious stuff.

I'd love to see some info on those man =) There appears to have been quite a few French compilations in the mid nineties, most of which never made it to any pan-european distributors.

I'm amazed noone mentioned the band name that above all else captures the essence of the goa trance emotion - Total Eclipse. Good goa trance feels EXACTLY like that weird, mysterious mood that the silvery light from a solar eclipse creates. Another very suitable one is Quirk, or rather it was suitable before they fell into the house trap. Growling Mad Scientists is a cool name, but the abbreviation that has replaced it in recent years degraded the name into pointlessness along with their music. Organic Noise is another name that fits the music very well. I think Son Kite is a nice and intelligent name actually, and Hux Flux is a cool name if you're a Swede and is familiar with the expression... The worst and cheesiest of all time has to be Alien Project. The israelis seem to be pretty bad at band names generally - I dislike MFG (Message From God - how pretentious can you get?), Astral Projection, Indoor (I mean.. what were they thinking?), Pigs In Space (oh god...), Cosmic Navigators (cliché ohoy!), Psysex, and ofcourse Infected Mushroom. Good lord that name stinks. There's plenty more too, but my mind isn't working properly =)

the rarest tracks will always be some unreleased stuff that noone ever got even on DAT, so that discussion is somewhat pointless. But rares releases is another story. Here are some of mine (all are links to correspnding Discogs.com page): Goat Ranch 7 - "Specific / Nanoteque" Goat Ranch 7 - "Ain't Goin' To Goa" The Infinity Project - "The Infonet EP" The Infinity Project - "Riddle Of The Infinite / Freedom Of The Flesh" The Infinity Project - "Time And Space EP" Underhead / MK Ultra - AUM 001 Pleiadians - "Alcyone" (etched one-sided promo) Etnica - "Astral Way / Asian Code" Etnica - "Tribute / Intense Visitation" There's more, but that'll do for now

No it's number 6 - AFR006. Fairly rare, but not as rare as number 13, another 2x12".

"Warriors of Light" has some of the coolest sounds ever :-) Also, the tracklist is different from the vinyl release, which is what I have. It has 6 tracks, one being a remix of Lucky People Centers "To The Space". I'd like to say that the BPM is just in the proper range here, faster would make it cornier than it already is. I agree that it's mainly for lovers of more oldschool psy-trance, and I'll admit I rarely play it myself, but this is still sort of a favourite of mine. Give it a listen if you get the chance.
-
This is perhaps not all too psychedelic, but it's certainly HYPNOTIC! And thats worth a lot more to me. The SOn Kite remix of Llopis "Centrafuge" is absolutely incredible in that respect. And regarding the commenty above about the abscence of melody - HELLO, have you even listened to this? P-Woland: The Lovely Wife (Reefer Decree Remix) has some of the beautifullest melodies I've ever heard in this genre. I bought the vinyl (which only has the remixes) and I've got some of the tracks from CD1 on other singles from before, and I use tracks from this one every time I mix now. You NEED to buy this one folks.

I cannot see how this is even remotely similar to delta or x-dream. Sure, the bass is fairly deep and its a 4x4 beat, but the overall structures of the tracks are very different and the PPS tracks have a lot more "nutty psy" feel than any delta track has ever had. I'd say this is more like releases from french labels Turbo Trance or Sub Machine (especially sub004, Tetraktys). The production isn't all too good but on a PA it'll work fine I believe. The only track I really like is Dream Cycle, with it's horror movie mood and busy soundstage. It's a semi-fresh sound from a rather new act, but they have better stuff in them than this, such as their track on the Monarchie II compilation. I recommend this EP to anyone who's into dark, busy full-on-ish nightmusic. Considering that you get 4 tracks for the price of an ordinary 12" or CD single, this gets a 6 out of 10 from me, so it's above average.
-
I think the best two tracks were on the EP, so go with that one unless you have lots to spend. And by the way, his name is Dag Wallin and nothing else.
-
Come on Stormbringer, this isn't all that weird. I find it very tasteful actually, a bit like the Turbo Trance sound combined with the cool scando temper and some bursts of freaky sounds woven into it. This is one of the best EPs I've bought recently, and I'm _not_ a big fan of full-on crazyness, which should say a lot. One of the tracks (can't remember which is which) is triplet-based too, and triplets rule, so this gets a 8 out of 10 from me which is unusual. Very much recommended if you want something fresh that oozes of quality.

The Vibrasphere track is very, very impressive. I'm truly looking forward to their next album, they seem to have progressed tremendously since their last album, which was very good. I agree with shahar about the matrix red/blue pill samples in the Ibiza Connection track; They should have been left out. Other than that, it's a great track. The Morphem track is the least interesting here in my opinion, it feels rather pointless. I've vome to expect better things from Filur, but as always with his stuff it might take a while to "get it", so I'm not giving up on it yet. All in all this is a nice compilation, one of the best I've bought in the last year or so. Too bad ZMA still won't release anything on vinyl :-(
-
I'm not quite as excited as the guys above, but this is a fine piece of vinyl, no doubt. I tend to play "Some Music" (the tracklist above seems messed up) more, it's got a really hypnotic mood to it. Classy production, it feels fresh and interesting without being "hit" material. Awesome DJ material, very mixing friendly.
-
Since this is a part of their Kamaflage series, it's no surprise that it's a bit more on the clubbgy side of things. Perhaps not a 12" you'll be playing 5 years from now, but well worth the money. Nothing spectacular, just very, very good DJ material for a clubby morning set.
-
I found this CD in a store today and to my surprise it was half the price of most other psy-trance CDs... but I skipped it since I have all the good tracks on vinyl already. But just to let you know... this is a cheap CD :-)

I feel I need to add the following statement(s): Of course people are free to dislike this album, but if you want any for of respect for your opinion, make sure you know what the heck you're on about. You don't go see a Woody Allen movie and get pissed of because it lacks action, explosions and firefights, do you? Try to judge it for what it is. Regarding the originality of this release I am very well aware that it's no major breakthrough in the evolution of psy-trance, but it _is_ an important step forward. They successfully combine the best elements from various cutting edge acts (such as delta and absolum, mentioned by "Tested" above) and blend these ingredients with thir own special flavour to create a very tasty set of tracks.

First of all, you uneducated little twats, THIS IS NOT TECHNO. If you had any clue about techno you'd agree, but clearly you don't. Most of you who are whining seem to have no clue about musical genres and somehow expect Wizzy Noise to sound like Fractal Glider. It's like expecting Metallica to release a polka album. Surely "Cyclotron" has a few techno-ish elements, but that is a completely different thing. This is cutting edge psy-trance, allthough I agree that it's not all too psychedelic, but that goes for the majority of records reviewed on this site. It is very hypnotic though, and the excellent drum programming gives it a rolling, pushing atmosphere that keeps you going and going, while the smile widens. Most of all, this is _GOOD MUSIC_. Great use of atmospheres in most tracks, allthough they rely a bit too heavily on sampled pads sometimes. At least they have the good sense to modify them a bit with some clever filtering. The tracks are all quite similiar, but since they are all very good, thats a positive thing :-) I'm generally very conservarite with ratings, but this album keeps growing on me, and I'd say it's lots better than their previous one. 8 out of 10 from me, abd my only major complaint would be that it's not being released on vinyl.

If you like the two dub tracks, then get the full album. They are both on the CD version, as well as the original version of Lextorp. The remix on this EP is a brilliant tribal-ish piece with a beautiful mood. Something for the sunrise hours for sure. One of the best EPs from spiral trax in a long time, and that's saying quite a lot.
