  1. Interchill are widening their range of explored directions (if it were still possible, ha !) with setting up a serie dedicated to the realm of dub.. And they entrusted Gaudi with getting the first volume ready. I must say, after having experienced a stunning show on NYE's at the Existence festival in Spain that I was convinced they made the right choice. And I think I wasn't mistaken, the compilation is a rich selection featuring amazing musicians.. They are : 01. Kakatsitsi, Master Drummers from Ghana & Greg Hunter ::: Gbehee (A New Path) 02. High Tone ::: Replay 03. Ashtech ::: Earth Orbit 04. Sub Oslo ::: Prisoner Of Dub 05. Mauxuam ::: Jahnesh 06. Dub Alchemist ::: MF Rainbow 07. Zion Train ::: Free Heart 08. Dubadelic ::: Secret Of The Lost Dubplates 09. Noiseshaper ::: Walls Of Silence [Gaudi Dub Remix] 10. Creation Rebel ::: Space Movement – Section Two 11. Manasseh ::: I-Wah 12. Almamegretta ::: Insane Abduction Let's give the woOfers some "raison d'être" ! 01- The opener is a meeting between Greg Hunter and drummers from Ghana. The result is a peaceful piece of dub, very subtle and driven by a slow and massive 4:4 kick-drum structure.. There is a feeling of out flow, we're swimming in a river of bass.. Welcome to the Sub Signals ! 02-Gaudi picked up Replay that was released in 2000 on their second album Opus Incertum. It's good to get such a "connection" as High Tone is a quite famous "live-dub" band in France. They use to perform live in concert halls and (big ) rock festivals, and to deliver quite uptempo "drum'n'basstic" stuff on stage. Really cool people, they also have two deejays available for pot-pourri dub to breakbeat via whatever, hehe. The track reflects this "live" characteristic with a quite twisted ambiance and phat driving bass. 03-Andrea Nicoletti who is multi-talented musician, and will release an album with Gaudi's help on the production, delivers here somehow heavy but optimistic piece of dub. The bassline is just great and you get the typical delayed atmosphere with the U.K. scene touch' (reminds me of some Dub Syndicate in a way). A very promising foretaste of the album ! 04- Sub Oslo, is another live-dub band, from Texas (which is something very comforting, hey !). The track is driven by a nice dialogue between the bass and the guitar greatly performed here, and it has a strong hypnotic atmosphere. It is about 10 years old, and I have to thank Gaudi for the discovery ! 05- Next comes Mauxuam's Jahnesh, a nice pun for a nice track ! We're suggested some twisted dubbed out elements, with some subtle winks to the hindu friendly God, and an efficient heavy ambience that matches the "concept" behind the track title.. Good one ! 06- We now have the pleasure to get Gaudi own's material under the Dub Alchemist nickname. He serves us a constanly twirling synth bass flirting with some breakbeat stuff, until the track gets into a fast steady and "weird" dub moment that will surely bring some dancers into a deep state of trance ! Wicked ! 07- After the very fresh stuff, time for a salute to veterans Zion Train and some kind of teaser for the upcoming album, five years after their last release, that will be entitled ‘Live as One’. The track could be somehow "minimal dub" hehe, with an efficient bassline holds some always twirling rhythmic elements, punctuated by easy goin' percussions and some short vocal sample. Pretty good ! 08- The greatly entitled 'Secrets of the Lost Dubplates' is made by mythic figure Bill Laswell together with drummer Ted Parsons and The Eye. Another oldie but goldie driven by a fantastic slow and steady bassline. The ambience is let's say deep, hehe, nice all-purpose word, isn't it ? But I guess you'll know what I mean when listening to it. 09- Still in the "salute" mood, we're now offered a remix by Gaudi of Noiseshaper's "Wall of Silence" extracted from their great album released by the (also great) label Echo Beach.. This looks like a virtuous circle and the remix sounds nothing but boom ba da dub ! Super ambience filled with good vibes and in the same time intriguing elements.. 10- The typical snare roll launches this cosmic piece of dub that is older than me, and has been released the year I was born !! Therefore Gaudi is teaching me here how this jamaican music i love so much could be spiced up back in the end of the 70's.. And what can I say, to me it just sounds so fresh ! 11- Being a big fan of Nick's tracks on compilations and his album featuring the Equalizer, i was pretty happy to get the chance to hear a new track ! And once more, it does it !! Great piece of electrodub, driven by an efficient bassline and some 4:4 kick-drum. Easy dancin' material ! 12- To conclude the compilation Gaudi brings us to the country where he was born via the music of the italian band Almamegretta.. The track takes off slowly and gets into something, as the title suggests : insane ! Hehe very trippy stuff held by a steady bassline, that ends smoothly.. The train is gone ! Ffffffew.. this is dense ! Explicit bass indeed. And, once again, I can only praise Interchill crew and Mr. G for the great work. The artwork is quite pertinent too, well done Tristan Brotherton. What can I add.. Dub diggerz MUST give it a listen absolutely ! Serious starter for the serie, I'm really curious for what's next !
  2. Relaxed journeys is the second release of Chill Tribe records, compiled again by PKS. Reading the tracklisting looked like a promise made by Per Kristian. And he holds it with maestria, having selected superb tracks from talented artists, being yet accomplished, newcomers or veterans. To raise the quality of the release, the artwork is designed by Marmelade (like the first release) giving the compilations a nice graphic coherence. The booklet, which is always something pleasant when we get a new CD, holds some cool info about the musicians gathered here to drive us to some Relaxed Journeys.. They are : 01. Altitudes : Altitude II 02. Nada : Earthgarden (Jong Remix) 03. Adham Shaikh : Indu 04. Digitalis : Noodles 05. Jong : Unexplored Depths 06. Makyo : Nothing Is Real (Sensual Mix) 07. Solar Quest : Tokers Dream (Remix) 08. EldarLife : Gone Gong 09. Circular : Ambulo 10. Saafi Brothers : Multiverse 01- The compilation opens with the name that surprised me a lot on Chill Tribe first release : Altitudes and their first signature "Altitude I" which was a very special tune mixing many influences. Here, while the team is joined by Johannes Silicon Sound, we get a more "classical" chill out track, very floating, with a great introduction and some subtle rhythmics. This and the cosmic atmosphere will surely please many listeners. However I can't help missing the surprising aspect of "Altitude I". 02- A Norwegian compiler is now making me discover a new French artist, and well.. Thank you Chill Tribe for the tip ! Jong is yet a name I will pay some attention to, as according to the booklet some more tracks are to be released in the near future. The first time he appears on the compilation is for the difficult exercice of remixing Nada's "Earthgarden" which was released on the VA - "Butterfly Dawn", three years ago. The original track and this remix are going to the same direction, but each following its own path, as Jonathan managed to give "Earthgarden" a second breath that is not redundant. Indeed, if the "dry" snare and dubby bass are a common denominator, he didn't use the exact same vocals and puts more atmospheric tones in his remix. Some great work here ! 03- "Indu" is a subtle and dense composition laying under a sanskrit mantra dedicated to Shiva interpreted in a superb way by Gemma Luna. It fits in the dynamic of Adham's amazing album "Fusion" (released on Dakini Records). A long build-up leads out onto a 4:4 rhythmic structure driven by a massive kick and a rich atmosphere of soft percussions, superb hi-hats and celestial synths balanced with some quite fat bass tones, peering at the Dub language. The result is quite hypnotic and musically very well finished. 04- If you're some Digitalis lover, well I would say that "Noodles" sounds to me like a "Twisted Kaya Project" tune. The general ambiance of Seb's previous chilled albums on Interchill ("Walking Trough" and "Elixir") is present in "Noodles", but the background is more -let's say- psychedelic with some distorted sounds and teasing acidized elements. As usual with Seb, the build-up and the rhythmic work are outstanding giving the track the usual efficiency which is Seb's trade-mark. 05- After introducing us to Jong with a remix, Chill Tribe leads us now to some "Unexplored Depths" -explored- by Jonathan. In the Chill Tribe office, tells the booklet, they were "blow away by the quality of his tracks".. All I can say, with the glimse they offer us, is that so am I !! Jonathan paints here a piece of super-textured-dubbed-celestial-mysterious-in-constant-evolution-boombastic Music dressing some Hindu chants. The build-up here is simply amazing and it would be exhausting to try to describe it.. Just give it a listen if you like to be trans-ported. 06- Chill veteran Makyo now suggests us a Sensual Mix of "Nothing is Real". Followers of his own label Dakini surely know about the Headspin Mix of the same track that was released on the stunning VA- "Live at Dakini Nights". As the subtitle suggests, this mix is softer and a bit warmer while keeping some common aspects in the assemblage and the build-up. Some short excerpts of Hindu mantras punctuate the textured atmosphere of the track. 07- I was mentinoning Makyo as a veteran, well.. George Solar Quest is another one that Chill Tribe had the great idea to contact. We do have the chance now to listen to another spaced out piece of fantastic Music where the sitar (which he plays) meet a steady dubbed bassline that would please all Youth lovers, some spoken words in english and hindi and an atmospheric full of echo background. Amateurs of the genre (sitar & electronics) will be delighted with this deep journey. 08- EldarLife is the new side-project of PhasePhour which is a Norwegian project. On Quality Relaxation (Chill Tribe first release) the track "Unpronounced Numbers" signed as PhasePhour was less my cup of tea even if I agreed with the quality of its production. I'm much more fond of "Gone Gong" here, built upon some great rhythmics holding up a floaty ambiance punctuated with spoken words. Now I'm curious to hear more from this artist. 09- Circular was not totally unknown to me thanks to Interchill and the VA-"Floatation" that is closed by the Norwegian duo with the deep ambient track "Drifting". "Ambulo" stands out from the rest of the compilation, being a more elektroïzed down-tempo structure dialoguing with a piano. It's not my favourite here but I assume it has some potential for the more soft experimental music diggers. 10- When reading the tracklisting before the release of the compilation, I was very impatient to hear a new Saafi brothers track. And the magic duo delivers here another ambient masterpiece. There is a little something of some Sounds from the Ground in here, I don't know why really, just a feeling that mixing Multiverse with some SFTG stuff would be working fine. It's very deep and somehow hypnotic thanks to subtle and efficient loops drawing some rhythm to the spaced out ambience. Just beautifull !! ------------------------------------------------ Well well, all I can say is that PKS did it again.. If you were fond of "Quality Relaxation" you're very likely to feel the same with "Relaxed Journeys".. And if you didn't discover the Chill Tribe records yet, here is a personal invitation to do it, given by a true Music lover who is obviously doing his best, with sincerity, to make Chill Tribe a respected label in the Chill scene. If you're having any doubt reading this, well, please let me add that he is already working on a third compilation, featuring tracks by Robert Leiner, Kris Kylven & Syb-Sonic, Kiwa, Blue Planet Corporation, Highpersonic Whomen, Digital Mystery Tour, Cosmosis, Nick Taylor.. I wish PKS all the best to make this third one possible. Thumbs up for "Relaxed Journeys", it's highly recommended, and a special thanks for bringing the Jong sound to my ears, can't wait to hear more from him. Thanks y'all for the reading Cheerz ------------------------------------------------- Links : http://www.chilltriberecords.com http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/ctr/ctr1cd002.html http://www.saikosounds.com/english/display...ase.asp?id=6036 http://www.beatspace.com/dettagli/dettaglio.asp?id=3012
  3. Maybe.. But as James explained Beatport and the likes are a good way to (virtually) get your hands on fresh tunes released on vynil that remains the most expensive (but also probably the most "cherishable") format.. This without having to wait for a label that would pick up some tracks here and there to compile them on a compact disc (like Hadshot are doing, and others..) So as a matter of example, i've selected this release : Lützenkirchen - Knight Moves EP Label: Great Stuff Format: 12" Country: D Release: 2006-07-24 Labelcode: GSR031 Which contains four mixes of the track.. On beatport, and God knows why, this release is "still" considered as an "exclusive" one (haha..funny) So.. You have to pay on Beatport : 9,96 € for the tracks 4,00 € for the Wav handling that makes 13,96 € for four tracks.. While you could get the physical record for : Music-Head (Germany) : 7.80 € (without shipping fee) Streetwise Music (UK) : £5.95 (£6.99 inc VAT) Juno (UK) : £6.54 Chemical Records (UK) : £5.53 (£6.50 inc VAT) Cisco Records (Japan) : 1.200 Yen = 8,09739 € Intermusic (Spain) : 9,40 € Streebeat (Finland) : 9.25 € (without shipping fee) et caetera.. So maybe you're going to reply that "hey, not everybody owns some turntables.." Indeed, but the reason of it always was the investment the buying of turntables + mixer represents.. And so the digital purchases were a cool solution for people who're not earning +2000 euros per month.. And I feel sorry it's making you smile, Detox..
  4. Jubilee, one of the Free Form sublabels (downtempo) is still releasing stuff sometimes, including this not long ago : http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/jub/jub1cd070.html But I dunno if it's somehow connected still with Free Form or not..
  5. There is some new Delta music to be expected soon And it will be massive ^^
  6. Franck 'Kick Bong' Jousselin has always been more or less close to the Music.. Drummer since the age of 12, he met the electronic culture in 1995 and quickly dived into it. He will be involved in many projets, bands or associations with deejays (Serious Bass, Tarace Boulba, Yvan Hio, Yop Soma, Marabunta and since 2003 with the Secret Side collective and LDB System, famous ambient-trance crews). Franck started composing in 1996 and five years later seven of his creations were released.. Spirit Zone initialy (eh yeah.. on various chilled compilations), then Candyflip (VA - Mountain High) and Sub Machine' sublabel Clima (VA - Green Instant).. And now, we can enjoy a full length album that has been released by the french label Ultra Vista, much appreciated for its Electr'Oriental Delight serie, and promised to a brighter future if they keep their dynamic. The artwork is made with warm colours and is a montage based on a clock picture. It's looking good, and the font used is hehehe the same as in my website.. Now let's listen to it.. The album opens on a much filtered SfX spoken words sample which leads out onto a nice rise before a 4:4 rhythmics comes. This is already an indication on what we can expect from this album : mid-tempo vibrations, or call it ambient-trance if you prefer.. The musical background is quite complex as usual, combining many elements, but in a clever way. "Progress In Happiness" (T2) starts with a rise on some phat dubbed broken beats.. After a while strikes quite suddenly a steady kick which is rolling a little bit. Later, Franck plays a fantastic loop, that I thought to have heard already in an old Techno tune.. But no, everything is 100% home-made in this album. This track is just stunning. "Little Fairy" (T4) opens on a filtered baby voice and very floating atmosphere. Then come some subtle and soft rythmics accompanied with a kind of xylophone sound..Later I think Franck plays his little string bass on some looped chords raising the hypnotic touch of the song. The next track "Darkeion" starts directly with a bizarre kick + snare combination.. I like the way the sounds are "designed", and the title of the track becomes obvious. The atmosphere goes even a little bit scary, and a fantastic bassline provides a good groove. Later he adds some percussions, ending to make me just love that track.. The "Cosmic Flute" (T6) is now coming.. I've read about it here and there and it looks like many chillers dig this one in particular a lot.. Well they are right.. The way it opens is just great. And Franck leads us to something slightly more celestial with a constant slow progression.. The build-up is as usual very smart, and the track goes up and down to end up in a contrasting darker way.. That introduces "Heavy Machine" (T6) which sounds once again quite dark. In the booklet I don't really understand if the guy called Loic plays bass on all the tracks, but if he is in this one, well I say good job, guy. It's just great and holds up perfectly the complex build-up of the track. Music for some bonged heads.. "Trace" (T7) starts with some piano, used in a minimalist way while the background rises slowly.. Again, smart complexity is the point. Some sounds here remind me the Twilight Zone (don't ask me why..). The flow is quite deep and slow, and the way the ryhtmics are set up in the third minute just mind-blowing. Then, "Strange Voices" (T9) begins with a great introduction and delivers once again the 4:4 structure, here in an exciting way again.. The combination with the sonic elements is quite effective, psychedelic details in the way I love it. Franck adds some percussions (including darbooka here) in the second half of the track. Really good work again. The closing track (T10) is also very exciting.. Unsual sounds with easy easy percussions, and again a great bassline.. The bluid-up is slow.. making the track even more hypnotic That's it.. I was very excited for several reasons when I first read that Franck 'Kick Bong' was about to release an album. One of them was the previous tracks released on compilations that are all worth a listen, definitaly.. An other was that the album would be released by Ultra Vista. A label that is doing some great work. I wish the guys the best for the future, and don't worry, if they keep doing it like that. In my playlist are tracks 2, 4, 9 and 10, but there's not a track i don't like in particular.. http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/ult/ult1cd009.html http://www.saikosounds.com/english/display...ase.asp?id=4623 Thanks for reading ! Enjoy it with sweets, cakes and of course... A cup of tea !
  7. If you are also curious about slower stuff, be prepared for the next WaterJuice album, then.. described as Down-Tempo Trance Funk.. Really super stuff !
  8. In Psychedelic Trance, I will join the freaks that have already talked about the ZoOm 2000, it was really a special thing... But Tarsis there is the one I enjoyed the most.. Then also the Delta/X-Dream combo @ Transit (without any blank) But but but... the best live-act ever imho was not psyschedelic... Chemical Brothers, my friends !! Theeeeey spanked me as never.. It's simple.. None of all the psy-Live act I've seen could have reached their technical skills.. I mean, all the tracks are re-worked for the live.. They make INSANE and long transitions between the tracks, and the energy is unique.. An amazing experience, really..
  9. Since the unpacking of this fifth Gaudi's album, I can't stop thinking about the word "generosity".. This album is bubbling over with generosity.. The digipack, first of all, with the 4 pages leaflet are in recycled cardboard/paper (without dwelling on it - which is noble) on which Ceridwen had fun with his paintbrushes, for a result that looks for nothing else than being beautiful. Nick Edell then complete the sleeve design (like the Kaya Project) focusing on simplicity and legibility. The generosity leaks out also in the texts detailing each of the influences that have inspired such and such a track, and also in the long list of acknowledgments and inspiring-artists.. Generosity, finally and before all in the content, the essence : the music ! More than 40 musicians, singers or speakers have been part of the creation of "Bass, Sweat & Tears"... Yalla, let's listen to them.. 01. Tribalove 02. Sufani 03. Dub it 04. Babylon flamenco 05. Ayahuasca deep fall 06. Chaine a chaine 07. Ci fice lu mundu 08. Native dub 09. Tutta pe me 10. ...and the Earth said: oh my God 11. Kimiyaa e moraad 12. Theremystical 13. Meena 14. Truthful old man 15. Chant thermique 01-- Tribalove was created with Antonio Testa, an ethnologist who uses to involve music in his works and bring us to central and western Africa, where the Pygmy people have been using instruments used in this track (flute, talking drum -picture-, kalabash) for centuries. I love the shrill sound that punctuate the intro first, and then the rhythmics when begins the steady bassline drive.. A beautiful opening ! 02-- Sufani is mystical poetry sung in the Qawwali tradition which lays on a musical collage where Islam and Hinduism meet. Melodies and rythms come from the Hindustani region (linking India and Pakistan) while the poems are arab or persian. This music has been popularized by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.. Gaudi links these influences with a radical rhythmic structure (one kick + one snare and so on... > in the mood of Puff Dragon for "Chinese Radio" in example) that is highly danceable.. Subtle melodies, alongside with numerous tiny sounds complete the floating ambiance. 03-- Dub It says it all : Gaudi brings us a good ol' dub beat, studded with rolling tabla and raw stell percussion.. The bewitching sound of the sitar is conversing with trancey elements in a superb way and the whole is definitaly irie ! 04-- Babylon Flamenco, you have guessed it, is not polka-influenced. Together with the spanish band 'Ojos de Brujo', Gaudi brings another dub beat, colouring it here with andaluzian (sorry if there's a mispelling) flavours and delivering a sweet energy.. Accoustic guitar and characteristic handclaps, punctuated with short processed vocoder-samples and a huge bassline drive are recipes of this "spaced flamenco dub" meli-melo.. 05-- Ayahuasca Deep Fall tells us about Piers Gibbon, an english botanist who went into the heart of the amazon rain forest to experience the "sacred vine".. The promising introduction brings us to an intensely groOvy beat.. The bass takes our control and makes us irremediably wriggle the hips.. The ambiance is rich and coloured.. A huge track ! 06-- Chaîne à Chaîne brings us to Burkina Faso where Gaudi met the singer Eric Dah "Mo2ieu" who lends here his voice, telling in french about the situation in his country, and also refers to the days of slavery.. The first stanza, I dunno why, made me think about another song (Dans la Vallée, by Manau - I am not amateur, haha) regarding to the flow.. Besides, the quiet dub beat created by Gaudi is sensational and the subtilities of the ryhthmics hold the attention of the listenener.. Big Up for the conclusion, in a "end of improvised riddim" way.. 07-- Ci Fice Lu Mundu is a traditional chant from Salento in soutern Italy (sung here by Alessandro Coppola, member of the band Nidi d'Arac). Gaudi accompagnies the band (playing guitars and trumpet) with a more Trip-Hop beat, pulled by a phat bassline which the score is rich.. 08-- Native Dub is another ol'dubby structure conversing with flute and cries of the jungle.. The whole appears conciliating and brings us to a "just take it easy, mon" state of mind.. Nice one. 09-- For Tutta Pe' Me, Gaudi invited the italian singer and actress Lina Sastri in this chant of the dusk, mysterious and sensual, applying to the MoOn.. The viola sound in the opening has also been used by TIT in "Angel Voices".. Later, Salvatore Jovine's fisarmonica brings an original touch to this floating dub. 10-- ...And the Earth Said : Oh My God introduces the Huli culture, based in Papua-New Guinea and features their beautiful traditional intrument called Gawa (kind of mouth bow harp). Gaudi let the rhythmics come slowly in place, giving it a massive bassline drive.. before making later the track take off suddenly.. The result then is.. hehe.. just amazing. 11-- Kimiyaa E Moraad, meaning 'alchemy of desire" is the title of an iranian poem recited by Esraphiel. The fact that it is recited here by a woman here raise its impact beyond the 'simple' beauty of her voice. Violins and flute alone will accompagny her.. 12-- Theremystical allows Gaudi to express himself on his theremin (picture).. It is a unique instrument : electronic box with two antennas sensitive to the variations of the electric field produced by the human body, and therefore requires no physical contact. I have seen the band Avril (F-Communications) using two of them on stage, and it is really impressive indeed. Notice that the instrument is also one of the onstage components of Gaudi's live-acts.. The track is introduced by a vocoder-sample arranged as a wink to the old records that were delivered with the turntables and the firsts stereo systems.. Then starts a strong dub beat that contrasts with the sharpen and floating sounds of the theremin, defined by the moves of Gaudi's hands.. Really a tasty track ! 13-- Meena is the name of the hindi-singer who performs here while the percussions of Jagdev Anuraag and Khadim Haji, structured in 5/4 fragments bring an interesting dimension. The dialogue later with steady tablas is pleasant, and sometimes a stratospheric wave come and float on this whole. 14-- Truthful Old Man is a very emotional song featuring Antonio Cocco who went to heaven a few months after the recording. He was the last of the Cantadores, a very old tradition in Sardinia where he lived for 76 years.. The bassline drive holding his chant is just superb and the ambiance will bring the Negresses Vertes lovers to the tears.. 15-- Chant Thermique features the unique Fire Organ, an immense instrument created by a french man (Michel Moglia) who allowed for the first time the use of his works in this album.. The massive intrument (20m by 8m - approx 2 tons) transforms the heat of flames into sound energy with a very wide range of frequencies.. In this song the instrument is first slave to the rhythmics, letting it setting up slowly, and then get out of its control to express itself widely.. It is a pity the track is that short.. I would have like to enjoy a few more !! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's it for this "Bass, Sweat & Tears" which the title recalls the Churchill's famous promise, but which the aim here in only musical and emotional.. I don't know if Gaudi's nickname is connected to the architect, but still his musical environment is as rich as the architectural creations of the other.. His album follows in a perfect way the Walking Trough by Kaya Project in the catalogue of Interchill. The crew looks motivated to suggest us jewel after jewel.. Bravo !! "Made In Canada, listened everywhere" appears on the cover.. I'd like to add "inspired from here and there !" Thanx for the reading cheerz
  10. Youth carried out a wonderful work with this "album"... I had already been smashed out by his other project "Dub Trees - Nature Never did betray tra la la......." But here we have even more citars, Orient-influenced sounds and melodies.... To sum up, an invitation to Voyaaaaage..... mmm, nice ! Okay, big up to U, See Ya
