e: It says your group is "Validating". How queer.

Yeahp, saw that now as well, I changed it to Members again, but I can not grasp how he could have posted if it was Validating!? Anyways, Rotwang, I sent you a PM just now. :)
  2. you shud come across to the UK for one of the festivals he usually plays at (glade or waveform) :) Don't think eat static are that well known outside of the UK! But yeah, they are definately one to 'see live before death', on a par with green nuns for the best live sets I've ever seen! :D

and I can't stop listening to those new tunes on those videos, sooooo good. I just love the female vocals on the one on vid 4 and that monstrous bassline of the new one on vid 3 :D

I beg to differ, Eat Static is one of THE acts that people know, no MATTER where you are from. Not only for their long presence in our scene, but also for their distinct sound that they created. Quite frankly, I have not found an artist that even comes close to sounding close to them. I think maybe after Hallucinogen, they are Europes best known act, eventhough NOT most loved act haha :) (and god knows that I LOVE eat static and not mr rotford) :D
  3. Minilogue aka Son Kite are back with a double CD. This album was long.....

BTW, these are the same guys that produced under Son Kite alias, if someone didn't know. Also, if you liked the second CD, be sure to check out

 Yeahp, people should learn how to read :D

And the album gets better and better by each listen. Just like the new Extrawelt :)

  4. psytrance is dying on it's arse.

    cancers of the scene:

government legislation making it harder for genuine promoters to nurture talent.

modern technology for removing the quality filter and leaving us with lakes of shit to swim through. although we know there are gems to be found, the shit slowly saps our strength to find it.

    age and cynicism.

the blind willingness of 99% of producers to stick to a formula.

the fact that things are definitely not as good as they used to be.

    how cynical! :D:rolleyes:
  5. im using cubase studio 4. i set up an vst instrument & open absynth 4. it all works fine. but when i save the project, close it, then reopen it i get this error msg

    VST Mixer Warnings (30/11/2008)

    ===============================

This mixer configuration expected "Absynth 4" to have Output 1: Stereo,

-> The instrument currently has Output 1: 5.1,

-> Change the instrument configuration before reloading this setup without saving the project.

-> Non-matching mixer channels will be removed!

    ===============================

i have no idea how to change absynth from 5.1 to stereo

can someone please help me :-)

I had the same problem with Battery once, but I can not remember what I did to fix it. Its gonna sound like im a cunt, but look in the NI forums, cause there is something about that somewhere.
  6. Well probably there is.. for most people. I've got that damn specific taste which most (new) music doesn't fit into. Psytrance-wise anyways.

So could u give me that list of 20 psychedellic overkill albums from this year? I wanna check that out.

I can give you 2, Voice of Cod, OOOD :D
  7. Well, I could not decide to be honest. They both have qualities and classics that are equally good. Releases from Robert Leiner, CJ Bolland and Sonic Solution etc etc were groundbreaking, but then on the other hand, Plastikman, Sysex, F.U.S.E. etc etc were equally good. 2 different sets of artists more or less, so its impossible to compare. It comes down to taste in the end. I mean, I could not compare Harthouse to Dragonfly for example... could you? :)

  8. For those who do not know them; Montauk P are Gabriel le Mar and Michael Kohlbecker

Their "Psy" is more of the dark and banging kind, but they do also make some wicked ambient tunage. Not to talk about their other project, which I doubt many of you have NOT heard of Saafi Brothers which ads http://www.discogs.com/artist/Alex+Azary, which maybe is more known for his project Aural Float which includes Gabriel le Mar and Pascal FEOS.

Anyways, what I liked -or still like- with Montauk P was their incredible dynamic on Stage and the dark -yet melodic- and energetic feeling they create with their tracks. Can you imagine hearing a live with mixes of Montauk P and Saafi Brothers all in one?! Yeahp, seen that 3 times, and it almost blew me a way just as much as Juno Reactor does live.

But oh well, what can you expect from such artists as above? Only the best right?! :)

Now, if you have never heard Montauk P, then please go get it from your favorite provider! :)

    Appreciation scale: 10/10

  9. Please notice, that above I was saying what 'dark', not 'darkpsy' means to me.

This is going to be confusing, but IMO there is a difference between 'dark' and 'darkpsy', meaning that the former is a description of mood / atmosphere and the latter is the sub-genre of psychedelic trance. With that in mind, yes - both Cannibal Holocaust and Kindzadza are 'darkpsy', but none of them is really 'dark' - the first one (I have not heard it and - judging by the name - I don't intend to) is probably the darkpsy's equivalent of cheesy full-on and Kindzadza (second album, have not heard the first one) is more sci-fi / technical music (I believe it was called by someone on reviews subforum "psychedelic physics" - well put).

Truth is that not all darkpsy is dark, but similar things can be said for other sub-genres: there are different flavours of full-on, progressive, new-school (Suntrip etc.) even chill/downtempo. So maybe the name is not the best one, but at least it defines the style pretty precisely. And the reviewer can always say "it's happy darkpsy" ;):D

That I agree on, and thats what I wanted to get at. Thank you! :)
  10. Well, it all boils down to the definitions used, then :)

To my mind 'dark' is not about sounding evil / satanic / horror - that's just plain ridiculous for a dance music and that's why I probably never liked Dark Soho, Xenomorph etc. First of all, I personally associate 'dark' with mysterious, uncertain, sci-fi, moody and ...well, psychedelic - in old-school this would be UX, Menis, Slide, Biot, Darshan, Ominus, Sandman etc. In current times, best example for me is Alien Mental's "Mind Hack" - this is a real jurney CD, taking the listener through the religions, subconsciousness, tribal stuff and aliens and doing so it sound like a proper album with a story behind the beats, that provekes questions and makes you think. On the other hand, you've got latest EVP "Holographic consciousness" which is touching very similar subjects, but I'd be far from calling it 'dark', because it has (few) melodies, couple of 'funny' samples and is in general more musical than your typical darkpsy - sort of like a perfect combination of darkpsy and full-on, with a pinch of good old psychedelic trance.

So, IMO being 'dark' is a combination of a theme AND certain production techniques (monotonous 16th bassline, short bursts of screechy & hard sounds, 'spooky' pads & atmospheres, heavy processing & editing etc.).

So, is Cannibal Holocaust DarkPsy for you, or Kindzadza? :D
  11. This is kind of off topic. It's not just about music, but about the whole scene. If any mod thinks it's unrelated to General topic he can close it anytime.

What do I mean as a subculture?

Something like the Heavy Metal scene. It's a music genre, but it has its own symbols. From the way the people are dresses or their haircuts or the trademarks of the scene=darkness, demons, religious themes, gore, black etc.

Rock music for example doesn't have a subculture. There are fanatical rock listeners, but with the popularity and the diversity of the scene today is very difficult to call it a subculture. It used to have back in the 60's (although I don't know if screaming Beatles groupies qualify as a subculture  ) 70's or even 80's, but not any more IMO.

Pop doesn't have a subculture for obvious reasons. Not even Jazz or classical music. Hip Hop used to have, but after the MTV-gansta impact it's lost it. (Although they're still a core of real hip hop lovers).

In electronic & dance music I can't think of any genre with a subculture except the industrial scene (who belong in a larger group of a dark culture and IMO it didn't born from the music, if you know what I mean).

Maybe noise, but the audience is too small to create a subculture,

or hardcore, but they are chavs so... :P

So we stick with Psytrance which IMO has a subculture. Parties with specific concepts, trademark symbols like Shiva, Ganesha and more Hindu stuff, Aliens, Fractals, Sci-Fi themes, Spiritual concepts, a PLUR attitude (which today maybe doesn't exist that much but it's still there IMO), etc.

I hope you got what I mean.

What do you think? It has? has not? used to have?

What would be the "main culture" in this case? Techno? Acid House? :) Just a question, not an attack. I believe the "Psytrance Scene" is a culture itself, maybe spawned by the Electro Culture, and so on and so on... People into Electronic Music have always differentiated themselves from other kind of scenes, just as the PsyRock scene or the Psychabilly, or Rockabilly scene. Rock for sure has its different cultures, I happen to be very much into Psychobilly/Rockabilly stuff, and I tell you that there is a BIG scene that has just what you describe here above.

But yeah, I think that the PsyScene is a culture by itself, and that no matter if we love DarkPsy, IsraTrance, Full on or Goa, we still share the same core values. We do fight about it a lot though!

  12. Cancer on the scene? People thinking that things are or are not "psychedelic" and not realizing that things that are psychedelic for some people aren't necessarily so for other people. Hell maybe Brittany Spears is psychedelic to someone out there.

Yeah, Like Minimal can be very psychedelic for me... ;) But we do not go around calling it minipsy, do we now?
  13. I dont know, maybe it is my monitors or something, or maybe my mackie mixer or maybe it is just that I have really bad hearing, but how on EARTH did you come to the conclusion that Eat Static - De-Classified has bad mastering? Sounds P E R F E C T to me here on my super bad setup :D

  14. i really dont get that stigmatisation of hardcore lovers being al uptight and aggressive, taking amphetamines

but i hear it all the time :)

you hear it all the time, cause that is what it is like  Maaaaan, its like the psyscene is full of druggies as well... every electronic scene is in fact full with drugheads... and THOSE are the ones that give "us" a bad reputation :D
  15. One guy to the other on a party:

    - Did you hear that kick?

    - Fuck, thats such a good kick, and its fast! *boing boing boing*

    - And there, that sound that Tiesto uses but this dude made it out of tune and scary sounding, its soooo cool!

    - Yeah, fuck yeah, lets take some more meth!

    - Hell yeah!

Of course, take it with a pinch of salt, I have similar view -even though I love the music- on the Electro House / Electro / Techno scene (Party goers that is). Here in Spain they are all coked up and stupid, well at least here in the north of Spain. The dj's are pretty much arrogant and wanna be rockstars. Stupid people in all scenes. Just seems that Gabber Heads are a bit out of the ordinary! :D

  16. Gabber is one of the most popular electronic music in the world, it sells more than Psy-trance as I explained above.

So whats your point? That because it sells good, it has to be killargh  And as actually Mr. Kryll points out, its dead, it does not exist anymore. Some forms of it does though, some retarded versions of it, which only IMO has made it worse haha.

Its cool you like it, I respect you for liking it... but for me its just music that I can not stand at ALL. And as I said, I have been and seen various parties in Holland and Germany, where it was full with chavs. Cool to know that some people (fluff and you) that are normal also dig this kind of music hehe.

  17. and I quote you:

I dont fancy psytrance anymore so... tata for me also :( .

I had a really good time in psynews , take care everybody :)

    :drama:

I am sorry Nurbs, but I do get the feeling that you complain about things, just so you can complain. I dont mind a healthy discussion about other music styles, but if you want to discuss JAZZ or BLUES or even Heavy Metal what ever, I am sure -as I said before- there are other forums for that. This is not musiclovernews.org. It sounds bad maybe, but thats just the way it is, and the way it will be. If we allowed this kind of discussions, this forum will soon turn into Offtopic again. So, either deal with it, or do as you said above. No more off topic means, no more off topic, and other music would be classified as Off Topic.

And no, I do not want to get rid of you in any way.
