  1. The question is, are enough of these PC CD-rip music people in our scene to make this product established? Obviously the inventors think that this question has to be answered with a yes.

Well, the industry sometimes do not listen or want to listen to what the wider audience wants... they just enforce something, and thats it. We will then, be left without any saying or choice.

Of course, these sticks are good, if you live in a country with little or no bandwidth to download WAVE files, but I still think its a step backwards to use physical media for a medium which is supposed to be a non-physical one. I will NEVER buy one of those sticks! :)

  2. psy-trance:

1;VA;The Blood Vol 03;Skitzophrenik Lifeform Records

2;VA;The Blood Vol 01;Skitzophrenik Lifeform Records

3;VA;The Blood Vol 02;Skitzophrenik Lifeform Records

    4;Gorump Peyya;Mystery Of Nitzzy;The Fifth Element Records

    5;Trimada;Left Behind;Mechanical Dragon Records

lol i know NONE of your psy trance artists. What is it? Dark? :)
  3. Listening to music on an iPod is like DJing from a hard drive. It lacks physical proximity to the music itself, insults it even, because music is a personal invitation by artists to their listeners to take a journey to a spiritual place, usually for a fee.

You really insult a lot of people saying that. You insult a whole community that puts more effort into djing and playing music to people than ANY vinyl dj can ever dream of. Controllerism and Turntablism combined is -at the moment- the most you can do with djing, smart mixing with DAW's is also possible. I feel like you pissed on my hobby and the effort that I have put into this thing (Djing) ! :)

http://www.native-instruments.com/traktormicrosite/#/en/ (Watch the movies and tell me that its not hands on!)

http://www.djtechtools.com/ there you can find some people that put a LOT of effort into making djing more flexible than with just 2 decks and a mixer...

I think its just hard for people to understand what actually goes on when a dj spins with softmedia, cause when I show people my setup at home, and I move the vinyl player, and the wav file starts scratching, they usually just stare and do not know whats going on, followed by a "Shit, fuck, thats TOO COOL!", it has not failed O N C E . :) Maybe you ought to go to one of your favorite music shops and get yourself a tour de Traktor or Serato :D

And forget about MP3s in this discussion, think that there are other formats of softmedia that actually has the same quality as a cd does. ;)

It could be cool, you could have like a belt or a bag with a rack in, where you can place your sticks, just like bullets for a machinegun!

LoL I just imagines those bullet belts from the old Western Movies.

  4. My five cent rant:

I am a big fan of getting rid of the physical media -and I am a vinyl lover- so this stick is for me just a step BACKWARDS in the digital media revolution. And as I see it, they waste just as much useless plastic on this media as for cds. Who on EARTH would like to dj with 50 sticks, when you can have everything on one hard drive?

I know that this will trigger loads of you saying that Laptop djs are not really djs, and I will ignore posts like that, cause you are stereotyping the digital dj, and do not look beyond what actually is done when spinning digitally. You might even claim that the quality of the tracks are worse than the ones on cd, but you do not consider that we migt be playing with wav and flac? :)

Anyways, keep it sane, each to their own!

  5. So, we renamed this forum, and decided that we would have enough room to discuss things that go beyond psy trance and music making. We think that it is healthy to discuss things from the very start of making music, to its very end, and that is distribution and the future of how things will look.

    Please do not abuse this!

    Kind regards,

    staff @ Psynews.org

  6. Nemo, the Cari Lekebusch and the SCSI 9 ep/albums you recommended are amazing! Something similar you can recommend? Im getting hattache thinking of all the different genres there is in electronic now a days, what do you call the two artists???

Well, it would be called Techno by all, but I prefer to call it Tech-Trance (Not tech-psy-trance!!)... But in the end, it is Techno. I will dig out some more quality stuff. You can check out The Source Experience on H-Productions as well, (same label as Cari) on Beatport :) Actually, just check out the whole series of releases of 2008 from them :)
  7. No it's not just for the psy-scene ( ). It was mentioned on TG Daily a while ago , there was a discussion about it. I've no idea how it allready got in the psy-scene so fast tbh.

But what's all this talk about the "same-old-wav" quality? You can't make the music sound better just because you have more space available, changing the format won't make you hear anything new. You can't reproduce anything more then wav has to offer, even if you had 10 million$ speakers. It just doesn't make sense to create a new format that's 'superior' to wav. The spectrum of frequencies you can hear fit in the wav format without a problem. Please do read some articles before you post something in the likes of "10 GB would make the music soooo much better", that's just nonsense talk. ;)

Anywho, it does feel kind of lame doesn't it? On the other hand CD's felt lame when vinyl was still around. However I'm not really sure what the point of creating a new music carrier is all about? The music 'industry' doesn't make much sense these days. They started expanding this idea of digital downloads, even made some profit out of it. Now they're doing the opposite, trying to creatie a new carrier. It doesn't make sense, if you wan't to listen to the music you bought (or not) on some device that accepts USB input then you might aswell buy yourself a big storage USB stick, and just put the music you want on there and carry it around with you. I don't see the point of having CompactSticks for every album when you can put all of the albums on a single USB stick that you bought yourself.

It will not pick up. Especially in the days of so many iPod users, I mean what are they gonna do - hotwire the compactstick to their ipod?

Doesn't make sense at all, you buy a compatstick, you can only plug it in compatible players or your PC. Then you have to copy to your PC, then from the PC to your iPod or to a bigger USB stick.. just nonsense.

As for DRM or any of that, you can't stop piracy with any form or format. If you can listen to the music, you can copy the music.

You buy the cd, you insert it in your pc, you rip the cd, you compress it to MP3 and then send it to your ipod... Nope it will NEVER work!

And this discussion is a bit offtopic I am affraid! ;)

  8. A place to share your impressions and recommendations of albums from 2008 that are not psytrance.

Proper text formatting and descriptions much appreciated!

Wow so much good actually this year!

    Cari Lekebusch - Rituals - H Productions http://www.discogs.com/release/1530161

Cari Lekebusch Vs Jola Bola - Logo http://www.discogs.com/release/1551058

Chris Liebing - D http://www.discogs.com/release/1170474 (this track is from 2007, but played mostly in 2008... dunno why!)

Acid Junkies - Haunted Memories http://www.acidjunkies.com/t.php?pageid=3&...tid=3&id=41 have a listen there :D

SCSI9 - Tierra del Fuego (Pascal Feos Remix)

    Hobo - Failsafe

Tom Wax and Boris Alexander - Do pretty girls dance (Pretty cool album to be honest, diverse and good techno) :)

just SOME of my favorites really, there was some Pascal Feos etc etc :)

  9. How about apostophes?

Also, what is the standard method of referring to one CD of a two CD set (as is the case with my number four chill release, the first disc of which is not chill)?

Like you did will get me a result in the counting in the end, so that is fine, it will only seperate where there are Semi Colons, meaning that it would then look like CD 2 of ananda whatever gets a vote :) I mean, Of course its easier if you just put the whole cd, if its a 2 cd with chill and upbeat, but better to seperate to make sure you say its a 2cd set. :)
  10. Ok so here it is!

After some discussion we came to the conclusion that it would be best if you enter your data in the following way:

    Psytrance:

    rank;artist;album;label

    rank;artist;album;label

    rank;artist;album;label

    rank;artist;album;label

    rank;artist;album;label

    Chill:

    rank;artist;album;label

    rank;artist;album;label

    rank;artist;album;label

    rank;artist;album;label

    rank;artist;album;label

    Example:

    1;OOOD;Fourthought;Phar Psyde Records

    2;Ace Ventura;Re Boot;Iboga Records

    3;VA;Sea Of Vapours;Zenon Records

    etc etc

Please try and do the correct spelling (less work to correct stuff later), If there are dots (.) or commas (,) or colons (:) in the artist/artist/label, replace then with a space (see Ace Ventura above which is Re:Boot originally)

Use VA for various artists, nothing else!

NO spaces between the ;. No colors, no fancy formatting.

This way, it will be easier to compile the data and publish it in a timely manner.

And of course, we inspire discussion to each release or chart, it would be nice to hear what why you think like you do etc etc :)

    Have fun voting people!

  11. Or refering to Nemo's post on electro vs techno, the first wave of Detroit techno WAS electro, only afterwards did it develop into what we calle Detroit techno today (or used to call it, not up to date with recent progressions ;) )

Detroit Techno pretty much still exists :)
  12. the further you explore electronic music, the less u can hold on to styles and nametags (imho)

some good techno (prolly sounds like psytrance for some):

    around here: yes!

if anyone is talking about "electro" he usually means electro house.

    @nemo, re hardcore

it's tekno (or freetekno or hard techno or however you want to call it) which is a subgenre of techno. just a bit faster (and imo better) than the commercial stuff (for which RTP posted a really nice expample) ;)

    for hardcore look here.

    ;-)

    monotonic, yes

    but non-melodic ???

i guess u never heard alotta oldschool techno

some quick examples i came up with just now :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp_1QO9LRYw

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg0FbpDNhSQ

Fine. Then everything is Electronic Music, No genres. Fuck those. Discussion over ;)
  13. How dare you insult my race.I shall report that to Mars the IV in haste.

But no really,do you actually find that Hacker tune gay.Weird.

And yeah techno people would laugh their asses off,the same people that refer to Extrawelt and tunes packed with melodies and groove as 'minimal'.

How laughable.I wonder what radi has to say.BTW how do you expect a decent level of discussion about techno on a forum called 'psynews'.

edit: allow me to call anything techno and electro the same way you called me a halfling,im not a halfling, learn your DnD :P

I actually meant that Kryll was the halfling... hes Belgian! ;)

Anyways, end of discussion for me. As you said, how can you expect to have this discussion on a board called PSYnews ;):P:D

  14. Nemo things have changed since the nineties, genres have been merged,no more vinyl old man.

So you are saying that this gay electro house or whatever, is now called Electro?! Uh, oh, I am glad that there are almost no techno people here, they would laugh their asses off at ya'll.

Oh well, what is it worth to discuss with a bunch of hippies and a halfling?!

  15. sounds quite like electro/house ;)

this is techno to me :)

i have voted trance. listened to a lot of freetekno/acid techno in my early days, but after a few years i grew tired of the raw, mechanical sound of techno and prefer the flowing, floating feeling that trance is all about.

LOL that is more hardcore than anything else, annoying! :D
