  1. Sure, I've been working day jobs or going to college for most of the last 15 years and it hasn't been an issue. I find that my general physical and mental condition is much more important than the time of day. If you want make the most of your time, work on music when you really feel the desire to. 30 minutes of focused work will always be much more valuable than 2 hours of just messing around and pushing buttons when you aren't in the mood and just hoping something cool will come out by mistake.
  2. Its case by case regarding how long the label keeps the rights. I've seen 5, I've seen 10, I've seen forever. When a label closes shop the rights usual revert to the artist. The bulk of Cosmosis' tracks were on Transient and I seem to recall them closing their doors awhile back (although it looks like they are back). That said, the psy-trance world is a very small world and getting the rights to reprint something probably isn't really a huge issue most of the time. But of course it is case by case
  3. Weird, I skimmed through to see if anyone had quoted it, but somehow went right past your post. My bad....
  4. This over compressed issue has been around for awhile and I don't really see it going away anytime soon, especially in the trance scene were a lot of DJs don't seem to understand what the gain knob on the mixer if for. That said on our first PAR-2 comp we made a very deliberate decision not to compress the hell out of in the mastering stage and only one person has ever commented on it being a bit quieter than the norm these days and that person was actually one of the artists.
  5. In case people hadn't checked the original thread on the uk forum, Comosis already replied that he has already been working on such a project but appears to be missing a couple tracks and asked is anyone has access to cd copies of them.
  6. Granted I am somewhat biased when it comes to Chi-A.D. but I am really digging the new stuff on the MS EP. First time I've ever actually bought mp3's and I'd prefer wav files, but great music either way.
  7. Why do you keep saying it sounds like Journey man?
  8. Here's my current project. Although at 26 minutes and running its definately not my usual project size
  9. If you have the settings correct the hold time IS the length of the midi note. I used to have a link to an old Steinberg help article that shows how to use it properly this way, but after being sold basically twice now that link has gone missing. I should probably just make a tutorial myself on this since I've been thinking about it for awhile anyways.
  10. Count me in, I haven't been reviewing as much recently as I should so this is as good and excuse as any!
  11. Yes, its one of the standard plug-ins in Cubase and is located in one of the dynamics folders.
  12. Since MFG is the big hole in my collection I'll throw my name in as well!
  13. If I may hijack the thread for a moment, what do you feel are the weaknesses with Cubase's Midigate? I only ask since I have never had a problem with it in any form since VST5.
  14. I've got several broken digipaks actually. Probably close to 20, half of which arrived broken in the mail on purchase (new I might add). Some have broken teeth for holding the CD in, on some the plastic tray is peeling off the cover. In all cases there is nothing I can do to fix them, I just have to deal with my CDs falling out of the digipak and such all the time. Like I said, I prefer the look of them, but I prefer jewel cases for the long run. Digipaks look good but just don't stand up to the rigors of long term regular use, much less DJing (and I take good care of my CDs I would add)
  15. 3. They can be replaced easily and cheaply if they do break.
  16. I like the look of Digipacks but I prefer jewel cases because you can replace them, if your digipack gets broken and generally messed up, that's it....
  17. If it isn't until my I think you should be able to find someone to swap off with for the next day. Even if not, its a good way to make contacts for other future parties later in the summer and all so I'd probably go. Not sure how far it is from the location back to your place, but I've done a number of all nighters followed by a 1:20 and I find if I can get about four hours of sleep or so its usually no problem. BTW, I'll be playing down in Kagoshima on July 1st too...
  18. As someone who also goes pretty nuts playing live, I think most artists who do this aren't simply "showing off" or "acting". They just legitimately feel the music that much and get sucked into and go crazy. Its pretty easy, especially when you made the track and know every last detail. As a fan I personally find DJs and artists who just sit there and look all serious and barely even even bob their heads to the music the most uninteresting to watch and, for me at least, these guys suck all the energy out of the dance floor. DJing or playing live should be fun, not like taking a chemistry exam.
  19. Here are some audio examples I just made that might make it easier to see (or hear) the differences Straight normal 4/4 http://www.par-2.com/choons/timesig/straight%20fourfour.mp3 Swing 4/4 http://www.par-2.com/choons/timesig/Swing%20fourfour.mp3 Triplet 4/4 http://www.par-2.com/choons/timesig/tripletfourfour.mp3 Straight 3/4 http://www.par-2.com/choons/timesig/straightthreefour.mp3
  20. This track is tripulets, not shuffle/swing.
  21. Ah, in that case he is right... My bad.
  22. I don't pay too much attention to who says what on the downloading thing and who will or won't buy CDs, but if he says he'll never buy a cd, then its not like we are losing a sale. Sure as a label we could yell at him and argue the merits of helping the artists and scene and all by actually buying the music, but we've seen these arguements a million times and the only thing it could do at this point is spread further bad will between the "fan" side of the scene and the "business" side and I think things have been negative enough recently. Due to the economics of the scene currently we simply are not going to make our money back on this release, so I've been trying to take a different approach here and seeing how some good will will work. Ok, you don't want to buy music and such, its too expensive, you don't want the clutter, whatever, fine. Here, as a gift, is a copy of our CD which you said you enjoyed some of. Listen to it, give it to a friend, use it as a coaster, its your choice. Our "label" was started with the aim of getting new artists some exposure and giving them that difficult first release and the money side of things was always a secondary issue with us anyways so I'm looking at this as a seed so to speak. Doing this now will make someone more likely to remember our little label in the future and maybe take the extra minute to check it out, and then maybe even consider buying it. At the very least it will help to build a bit of a fan base. Perhaps (probably) giving a cd away will come to nothing, but oh well, its just a couple dollars out of my pocket that I could have just as easily wasted on junk food or something else I didn't really need. Anyways, who knows, maybe he might become more inclined to, even occassionally pick up an actual disc once in awhile. And just to be fair, since we had a few copies left over from our X-mas giveaway, if anyone else here in this thread wants a copy pm me your address in the next couple days and I'll send one out in the next week or two.
  23. cangrejo, Just for the hell of it, pm me your address and I'll send you a copy next week.
  24. There is nothing erroneous about 3/4 time, it is the second most common time signature after 4/4 in Western music. You can use tricky math and call it different things (6/8 for example) but its the same thing. Anyways, technically shuffle and/or swing are different. They are fairly common in jazz and such, but pretty damn uncommon in trance.
