  1. ok, i kinda need to know what it was that you did to try to send it. did you make sure that your midi settings are correct? go to the midi set up tab and to make sure that you have the correct settings. when i set mine up the first time i did the settings wrong because i didnt pay attention to which midi port i had used. so i had my cables going to in a and out a but i had the settings telling xg works to use in a and out b . no good that way. plus you cant have the same port for 2 different things. re check all your midi settings and if that doesnt work write back what you did and what the result was. hope thats helpful
  2. i put my ambient track up. its ambient ambient too, not chill out or dubby. just a strange soundscape kinda thing.
  3. parhelion, i hate when i get answers like this but..... dont use win 2000 use 98 se. 2000 is awful.
  4. i have a dx-200 what exactly are you doing and what happens when you do it?
  5. well im hoping to be able to get a synth with my tax return money. just wondering.....is the virus kb (or indigo) really worth 400 bucks more than the microwave xtk ? if so...why? thnx
  6. well, if the price is really that low...just get it. you can always use gear. if youre looking into groove boxes though...go with the yamaha an-200 or dx-200. they are a lot better than the electribes.
  7. hehe i got one mozart + einsturzende neubauten + pink floyd
  8. Christophe (absolum) + x-dream + s.u.n project.
  9. phin, trackers use notes and harmony...you just input it differently. i really dont understand your colloring book reference at all. i dont know how to read music, or play a keyboard. i dont really see what that has to do with my ability to create music in the long run. what diference does it make if i know what chord im playing, if i have to sit there and mash the keyboard for 2 hours before i find a chord that sounds right...what difference does it make...i still found it. and now i know if i put my fingers here here here and here...it sounds good. i really think that its great todays tech. allows for people to create music who otherwise might never be able to. now im not accusing you of this, but i have seen a lot of musician elitism (not too much on this forum) and it realy bothers me sometimes. what does it matter what tools we use as long as we are creating something. it would be the same as saying a graphic artist isnt really an artist because they dont know anything about color mixing or brush strokes or cross hatch shading. the computer is just a tool. just like any other tool. just like a piano is a tool. and as long as someone has a creative mind...they can surely use that tool to make beautiful things. its not what you use or even how you use it....the final creation is whats important. and its just as possible to make a creative beautifull song with a tracker as with anything else.
  10. good luck...let us know how it works out for ya.
  11. well...i would listen to lifeform since i havent actually done it. although if you are so inclined you could try it. if it works you got a $300 prog. if it doesnt then you wasted a lot of d/l time and a blank cd. its up to you.
  12. you need to copy it to a cd. but dont forget to rename it to .rfl or it wont work. the propper file size to look for is 520199 kb
  13. ok... my x's up there didnt show up at all how i typed them....never mind that part.
  14. i originaly was writing this as a response to what eshanti wrote in my thread about reason, but i thought id like to just make a new thread...this will almost certainly make me sound stupid...but oh well i dont have cubase or any of those other ones. i do have fruty loops though. not that it can do all that much...what i like about it is that the sequencer is real easy to use. was having a bit of trouble with buzz.... so i just make the sounds i want outside fruity and ship them in....its working out ok so far. hell i was using mix man as my sequencer for a while. id just make some sounds outside then use recycle to turn them into a .trk file. easy as pie. problem with mix man is that its only got 16 tracks. fruity has as many as your system can handle. maybe im just not doing the sequencing right maybe im just brain dead...but i like it when i can just draw in where i want stuff to play and it plays. buzz was a bit strange. and from what i hear cubase and those are real complicated. i have a sequencer that came with my yamaha dx-200 and i hate it. i draw stuff in and it wont play...or it plays some crap that isnt right. i dont know. maybe i should just get cubase or something and make myself learn it. im just a little impatient with the sequencing. i want stuff to play when i want it to play without doing too much to have it do that. i dont mind putting in the extra work to make 200 sounds and 80 different patterns that all just get used once or twice. hehe a typical sequence of mine looks like this: 1> xxxxxxxx 2> xx 3> xxxx 4> xxxx 5> x 6> xxxxxxxx ect... ok im exagurating...its not realy that bad, but you get the point. i make a lot of extra tracks that i dont need just because i like to have it simpler for me to sequence. i know i know...this probably makes me sound like a freaking moron.
  15. im pretty sure it depends on how long the sample is. under 5 seconds or something like that you dont need permission over that you do. but i may be off on the time limmit...hell i may be completely wrong altogether. i made an industrial song with a sample from the tv show quincy...the samples over a miniute long. =) im sure thats not legal. but it was so good i had to use the whole thing..
  16. thnx mogwai, youre right its not minimal like atmos or son kite. i really only said it was minimal at all because i know how picky some people are. and i think (i could be wrong) that devoted full on fans may not find it to thier liking.
  17. bad me.... i forgot to put in the playlist: the talking in the begining is "an eye is upon you" from power man 500 that i mixed into the intro of one way ltd
  18. if anyone is interesed ive made a new mix. its hard dark minimal, so if that doesnt sound like your cup of whatever you like a cup of.....dont bother. im on audio galaxy right now and will be for a while ( another 5 hrs) heres the play list: sparallianz - one way ltd absolum - orange joti sidhu - juice zerotonine - titanium cluster x- dream - psychomachine midimiliz - soopercharge dark soho - sleepwalking s- range - morningstar planet b.e.n - ant invasion xenomorph - the silimaki murder tool kit the file name is hymns for a new moon if you cant find it by the file name search for darkWyrM (one word) i would appreciate feedback on how its mixed. thnx and enjoy.
  19. thnx everyone this does indeed help me a lot. i still havent decided...and wont be getting anything anytime soon. (i just had to pay 900 bucks for car repairs). i have some time to think about this more and try to work on improving my skills with what i already have. i do already have recycle, as i started working on music with *cough*.... mixman...... dont laugh at me godammit =). so i was using recycle to make mixman .trk files. ird, thnx that was an especialy helpfull post. i am a lot more interested in *original* sounds (as you put it), which was the main reason why i got the yamaha-dx200 in the first place. thats also why ive been leaning towards the microwave xtk over the virus. so maybe ill hold off on worying about reason and work on other aspects. thnx again everyone.
  20. hey phaedrus, im glad you had a good time. sorry i couldnt make it, but its always pretty easy to find cool people to talk with. i was wondering...did you manage to meet up with jeff or alice?
  21. thnx guys, ill keep thinking about this. i really do not have much money. im only even thinking about this because i have an itch to scratch in the way of getting something new. i surely dont have money for a new soundcard and monitors...besides i live in an apartment and i only ever work on my music late at night, so im stuck using headphones (i know i know..bad). i was thinking about going hardware...like i said the xtk or maybe a virus. its just that reason looks like it packs a crapload of useful stuff into the 300 bucks. im just wondering if its a better value for the price than an xtk or virus. i feel like even if i get reason ill get a synth eventualy anyway...so would i be wasting the money on reason? and lifeform, i meant that its 1/3 the way to an xtk....a used xtk. but i dont care if its used or new, as long as it works.
  22. is it worth it? i mean really...300 bucks seems a bit steep to me. but i dont have it or know anyone who does. for anyone who has it.....knowing now what you do, would you still spend that much on it? 300 dollars is 1/3 the way to a waldorf xtk
