Artist: Androcell Album: Efflorescence Label: Celestial Dragon Web: www.sonic-dragon.com , www.Androcell.com CAT: CDREC-03 Sonic-Energy: http://www.sonic-energy.net/core/content/view/192/2/ 1. Process of Unfolding 2. Neurosomatic Circuit 3. Atmos-Spheres 4. Spectral Processor 5. Aes Dana – Natti Natti (Androcell Remix) 5. Efflorescence 6. Gnome Dosed 7. Dub Crickets What's This About Efflorescence is the act of gradually unfolding to reach the peak of development. Tyler Smith graphic design director for Saiko Sounds is also behind most of the covers for Sonic Dragon, as the moniker of Quasga. After a two year gap from the debut album Emotivision, Mr. Smith makes a return to his musical inclinations charged with new proposals & an undeniable growth as an artist in both fields. Like is tradition now, the smoker-friendly beats and psychedelic artwork splash the release with eight stories designed with sight and sound in mind. Per-Song Break Down 1. Process of Unfolding * "We experience the feeling that this body right here and now, is only a cross section of a process that has been going on for 4 billion years on this section of space… It is not a story of processes out of control, it’s a story which gives unto every part of the unfolding experience." the unfolding is translated in sonic terms as a tingling, gliding effect that gently erupts and boils as if photosynthesis itself actually made a sound. The voice that accompanies the journey turns into jabbing noises liquefied by the green fluid itself, enveloping the xylophonic beats as the lake bubbles... in this section of space. 2. Neurosomatic Circuit * The circuit is strangely soulful number, slowing the pace down and exploring dubby material which is strangely native and glitchy-synthetic all at once. Mixing influences and genders with ease, it begs the question of whether a clear artistic identity has formed beyond adapting all these influences, to throw them in a mix that sounds pleasing. Well, who cares… digital habibi, with dub undertones, binary crickets and a Smoker’s Delight aura does the trick for me. * 3. Atmos-Spheres * “You truly belong with us here among the clouds…” Atmos-Spheres remains atmospheric (duh), with a Hindu-type of whistle performed by Agalactica (Philip Khripkov), accompanied by a trip hop-ish beat that is ever so slender and pointy. Once again the digital distortion comes into play as a rhythmic topping, over the gently breezing melodies and the feeling we are listening to a lounge tune that has been spiked with a pinch of heaven. 4. Spectral Processor * The first minute of ambient delight with paddy lines unfurling amidst modern-day Global Communication intonations (think Pentamerous Metamorphosis), reflects a successful adaptation to beat-oriented older IDM material, back when it made sense and it was truly floating-away music. Really touching without deflecting into the Hindu vibes, with a sense of magnificence and universality that screams for an ambient remix by Carbon Based Life Forms. 5. Aes Dana - Natti Natti (Androcell Remix) * Taking on the mammoth of Natti Natti by Aes Dana, originally presented in the Season 5 album -and what farken amazing CD it was- Androcell twists around the original version successfully with his own ideas, vocals and effects. I might go as far as calling it better than the original. Aes Dana is great but the general pace of their tunes is too slow and once we hit the sweet spot, it never changes. The remix sweetens the deal with more interaction and dynamism in the different elements that unfurl and recoil back, keeping the interest alive. 6. Efflorescence Besides having the best daft punk vocodic homage I have heard in a while -considering I was never an ‘Around the World’ fan- I’m not to keen on them, but that’s just me. The breaks that could well be mixed with slower house tunes, work very effectively with the arpeggiated melodies and the flute is just as tasty. 7. Gnome Dosed If the thought of dub with a Caribbean slice had gone amiss for your taste, the Gnome Dosed spells redemption with all those great delays and warm rhythms, without saddling along aimlessly. I really enjoy the detuned harp-type of line fitting into place with the other elements; but within the genre I just feel like this theme has been repeated one too many times. Anyway, I agree with the gnome, it is very ppssyyycchhhedeliwwic… 8. Dub Crickets * Welcome to the island: Tis’ twilight and the full moon overlooking a turquoise blue ocean shore, with waves gently breaking by a reef covered in golden sand. A female chants as effects scratch and jump back amongst the kicks entwined deliciously in sweet piano lines. From the corner of your eye you notice the Rasta-mon looking at you funny… wondering, perhaps… if you’ve had too much, but not nearly enough… All and All Having a superficial knowledge of Androcell’s album it hit me, perhaps this could be a decent electronic dub fusion that sadly we don’t see much in these musical confines of chill out, with the exception of Capsula perhaps. Efflorescence proved to be so much more, unfolding the myriad creases of detail that hide from superficial skip-through sessions. This album is made to be played again and again until the glossy booklet is worn out, in the joyous discovery of the secrets that lay ahead. oh.. ok then, he shouldn't be hard to reach teh posford on the other hand is harder to reach online than mother teresa, with her being dead and all... unless of course you are waving around a big pile of money and asking him to play in some festival. Either that you can go through go traveler and radi's fan club.

i try to live by the "if you want something done, do it yourself" policy whenever possible. You want to see more interviews? Go for it and do them yourself, i did the same thing not sure what happened to the older ones though, they were a good resource though!

Artist: CCL Album: Unleash the Beast Label: Doof Records Web: http://www.doofrecords.net CAT: DOOFCD21 Sonic-Energy: http://www.sonic-energy.net/core/content/view/188/2/ 01. Intro 02. Banani [143 BPM] 03. Massive [143] 04. LF-Ants [144] 05. Geiger [145] 06. Oob Oob [144] 07. Tie Ripped [145] 08. Scratch [144] 09. Utb Remix [146] 10. ID Slayer [146] What's this about? Paul Elfferich (Zebra-N), and Troy Leidich (REV) previously known as Fungus of Light, make up the CCL ensemble. Troy released his latest solo album Inverted last year, featuring hard beats with a funky edge and very mix-friendly material. In REV's album, Could Care Less (CCL) presented the original version of “Unleash the Beast”, which I didn’t agree entirely with. I enjoy their music on an individual basis and I had very shallow knowledge of what CCL was doing, having heard a couple of tracks. Let’s unleash the beast then… that judging from the cover is apparently a flea. 01. Intro * This is actually pretty decent starter, with ominous vibes and menacing dub beats. Even more disconcerting is the overwhelming jungle vibe, coupled with a voice moaning something or some other, before the static eats it all away. 02. Banani I’m living in a place that has a small region called Banani. Want to take a wild guess at what kind of fruit they export? At pain of death, for creating yet another meaningless trance cliché Jungle Trance makes an appearance. Just listen to the drums, the trumpet at the beginning and the scathing lines topped with curiously ridiculous samples. At this point the vivid imagery is taken to the point of hearing digital crickets making their damned ruckus, with an interesting pace shift by mid-track. 03. Massive * The stampede of beats arrives unannounced, introducing organic tambourines echoing like a hammock in the wind. It doesn’t amount to much until the second part, when the main lead starts crunge-ing away. And it’s pretty sweet. It pains me to say so, but it does seem massive for their own particular style. 04. LF-Ants * If you have ever heard what an ant sounds like -in the discovery channel or something- you can probably pick up the tingling, beady sample skipping along. It’s how they communicate with each other. We go into deep hypnotism before the soundstage evolves in the aftermath of a car crash, most probably somewhere in Mexico (if the voices are any indication of anything). Funny and weird enough, it picks up from introspection a little abruptly with good results nevertheless. 05. Geiger * A tabla of sorts picks things up with a sample bringing that naive 1950 quality to it. The kid counting in the background or god knows what, adds a little spice to the tribal fusion in the mix. The digital mish mash unfolds atop with the with the usual sounds. Speed-infused, progressive tribal, a-la CCL. 06. Oob Oob * Another solid beat with a great combo of bass lines gets underway with an evil, delicious laugh. Coincidentally it reminds me a lot of the work Naked Tourist did in the remix of “Three Lines in a Row” for Peak records, which is not easily forgotten. My guess is the might go well together. The final sample got me smiling. Nothing that stands up much, but solid stuff for the floor nevertheless. 07. Tie Ripped * “It probably really hit me when I got inside crowd, and looked around and began to understand how the craft was operated and finally grasp the whole project –as a whole- as what we were doing. The fact that we weren’t building this thing, we’re trying to find out how it was made, we were back engineering it. When I first got to look inside craft, all I can say is an ominous feeling, you walk in there and… it feels as if you shouldn’t be there. I know it sounds kind of funny, but it is a real ominous feeling, it’s an exiting feeling. Ah, it brings a whole lot of question in the mind. I only witnessed one test flight up close, with virtually no eclipse and a small corona of discharge in the bottom of the craft, indicating the presence of high voltage…” As you can imagine this a beam-me-up-Scotty kind of track, exuding the usual artillery of effects. The real gem for me is the tweaked voice sample by the beginning and the end, like an alien voice rhyming… seriously sweetening the deal. I would have liked to hear that voice more often on this chapter. Or at least a replay by the end to spice transitions. 08. Scratch * At this point we find ourselves inside the craft while the alien machinery blips and blops, the communication devices are steadily transmitting sonic information, clearly incomprehensible for our feeble little brains. That doesn’t stop it form being really trippy. There is one machine that is defective though and it keeps making this scratchy sound underneath the higher ranges. Trippy stuff for sure… 09. Unleash the Beast (Remix) After scanning the original track again, the differences are pretty undeniable. CCL stripped and scrapped the original effort and apparently started from zero again. The under tones are the first thing you notice, as they are steep and relentless. Included in the mix: a voice blip of some dude -that could well be the deceaced singer from INXS- doing his thing for a bit. There is a climax this time they seemed to be missing in the original one which adds a bit more rush. Overall, the new beast has also shed new light on the original version, I have come to appreciate under a different light altogether. And even though admittedly I’m not crazy about either one, they are kind of cool… especially this one. 10. ID Slayer This is a little more tribal than expected but equally steep and fast. In the same vein as the previous tunes, with a great groove to be complemented, but rather uninspiring on it’s own. Yes it is filled to the top with all sorts of sonic attacks coming from every angle, but I do miss when they sneak some sort of strong melodic line, since they know how to build a groove so well. I guess the point was to close the thing and it does just that. All and all There is that subtle evolution in the work that makes me think of a hard assed progressive number in most of their tracks -and even though it’s in not going past 146- it feels a lot faster, with alien lines and the repertoire of effects and distortions. I liked most of the tunes, I think they have a future in the dance floor. As one cohesive ride though, the experience might be too smooth to bring out the subtle differences in each track. As a live act it might be a different story altogether, especially if they can conjure that little extra to shine on the performance. Word to the wise, it all seems to fit in more strongly with a cloudy head. The beats in general have that REV gusto, turning into backbone material at one point or another for my kind of pace. The cover is tripped out too, and in my view it reinforces that jungle vibe even more… Where to get http://www.saikosounds.com/english/display...ase.asp?id=5599 http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/doo/doo1cd021.html http://www.beatspace.com/dettagli/dettaglio.asp?id=2671

perhaps... in that case i might just like the melodic strand of 'dark psy'... penta, naked tourist, ocelot, jellyheadz, para halu, freaking, furious, xenomorph, paranoize, claw, procs, silent horror, derango, kerosene club, etc, etc, etc, i perceive as not minimal... but what i perceive as minimal is mostly lacking some kind of strong melodic theme... and that is what they call night music these days... so i'm just confused and droping the whole issue... we certainly don't need another subdivision
-
i think there's an interesting intersection between dark psy and industrial that is not touched but samples are not aplenty. I do think there's something that slightly resembles minimal dark psy though. Let's see if we can reach a consensus. Cosmo - Gami Seta (noise poison)... that's pretty minimal for my taste, track progression is barely there. so is Terminator - Minimal Dark Psy (Deja Vu). some of the stuff Polyphonia/Metallaxis is throwing out there is certainly not as busy as the forest kind for me? I was also hearing the new Nocturna i think it's called (Inpsyde)... i got couple of minute samples, but damn that was bare... i dunno if it fits as new genre though... eitherway nice job anoebis, did you use mind map?
-
ha... thanks for your comments. i have been a little hesitant with this one, cause there still a few small problems with the volume at parts, and missed beats here and there, but after planning this thing for some time, and changing the playlist half dozen times, i just rolled with it... anyway this is still uplifting and pitchy which was the main the main point. You can expect much darker and twisted stuff in the future...
-
after a few issues, i uploaded a new copy: it's 95 megs, lasting 63 min... the links on top work.
-
of course it's all about taste i still have a couple things i consider amazing pieces form the trance/rave generation. Dave Seaman is one of them... i could probably start digging out a number of names, but i'd rather keep looking forward into what is new in psy. Once again a matter of taste
-
yes and then you stop drenching the happy juice of your brain, and all of a sudden it seems equally corny as the teletubbies... and you wonder... you wonder...
-
a number of years ago, yes sure. I saw van buren live a couple of times. nowadays i'd rather drive a fork through my ear
-
dude, all your music rocks! and i've always enjoyed it thorughly... why you are not makign a living as musician is a still a cunundrum
