  1. Brilliant and terribly intense film. Also terribly misunderstood. I watched it on a little "mental enhancer" the first time (2ci) and was blown away as I never had been before... not the same for days! I could NTO stop thinkign about it! Watched it again the next week straight and was still impressed. It is so intense and the way it is directed and filmed, it really captures your mind and makes you feel like you ARE the main character in the film... I think this first-person POV technique, so beautifully executed, is what this will be known for in a several years, and others will be imitating it. The "message" is not about Myan history, or "cultural destruction", or the excesses of the Myan ruling class, etc etc.... IT IS ABOUT: JOSEPH CAMPBEL'S "HEROES JOURNEY" Think about it... the story of the main character fits this template with near perfection. At first he is living in a state of near natural bliss. Then something strange starts to happen and soon he selected out of his betheren as special and is forced on a journey to a place that must seem like some impossible dream. He almost dies... but escapes... the most telling point is that while he is running from the Myan soldiers after his escape, he has an epiphany... after jumping off the watrerfall (itself a HUGELY symbolic thing and event) he yells up to them, "I am Jaguar Paw. This is *MY* jungle!" and goes on to explain how he is a part of it and it is a part of him... his near-death experience in the horrible temple of the Myan royalty has led to him realizing his identification of his SELF with his WORLD... (i.e., just like Jesus, and other epic mystical heroes whom Campbel identifies). This then gives him a nearly infinite level of power... speed and cunning and luck that cannot be matched by his pursuers... he realizes this at this point ad essentially yells up to them "Catch me if you can motherfuckers... because the power of the entire jungle is living and breathing inside of me and you will never catch me and it is impossible for you to kill me." THAT is what this movie is "about"... and it is a genius piece of film making.
  2. Oh for crying out loud, mr cat, you are just like that chap in the Monty Python skit "Hello, I'd like an argument, please..." Anyway, "Cicada" in particular sounds like a genetic hybrid of PsyTrance and some flavor of Heavy Metal. Extremely cool and and fast and addictive. Next track Solstice is quite a tour-de-force... changes from reggae-dub... then just a percolating synth, but in comes wierd percussion rifs, then an obsessive bass line begins at about 3:20 drums get heavier and heaver, swirling synth choruses, back in alien heavy metal territory again... then... melodic synth lines and we are in a heretofore never heard hybrid of reggae dub + heavy metal + PsyTrance... as the track slowly rolls out of momentum, you can hear the crown going wild since I am sure their brains just almost exploded....OUTSTANDING! I could go on and on, but really, alot of this is too out there to even describe... just spend the measly $9USD and listen for yorself. Oh, and there's what is getting to be a rather long thread of reviews and comments and discussion of In Dub - Live at: http://www.twistedmusic.com/forums/viewthread/3474/
  3. Well it is completely different style than faruk-tekbilek so it si impossible to say if "better" (seriously, check out if not complete record at least samples and/or reviews for Alif: Love Supreme, One Truth, Beyond The Sky... he has created alot of ravishingly gorgeous, unusually complex, and and deeply affecting music) Anyway, judging by what I can tell of your stylistic preferences from your posts, I bet you will like the Live In Dub. You can download MP3s of the entire album here for $8.99 USD http://www.twisteddownloads.com/newsdesk_i...p?newsdesk_id=6
  4. Never heard this group before but going by the samples alone that is obviously a huge error in need of remedy. The samples of the new CD sound just outstanding... I am terribly excited about getting the whole CD sometime soon. Very very wonderful! Thanks so much for posting.
  5. Hey! We agree on something! Excellent! This is indeed outstanding... different and refreshing; rearranged to be played live by a band of actual human beings. - Imagine that! There is a thread here on this already: http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry932391 Where I wrote: This is well worth your piddly little $8.99 to download... such a paltry sum when held up against the stunning epic sonic onslaught that is this CD... It was indeed rearranged for (mostlly) non-synth equipment to actually be PLAYED LIVE by real humans! Perish the thought! Well it works... it really works, brilliantly and it is exhilarating... the thrilled, drugged up huge-crown noises are all there where they ought to be, adding to the exitement.... parts sound like some futuristic crunching Heavy Metal from an alien planet... there are a number of back-and-forth solo tradeoffs between a soaring & uplifting guitar and a drowning & hynotic keyboard that left me shaking my head in amazement of their excellence. And flights of airy and/or frightening fancy inbetween. This record is really something to behold. (Check out info about "The Orb Festival" where Posford and friends will be doing this plus who knows what else for us in the US... YES!! THE US GETS ITS VERY OWN *LIVE* H-A-L-L-U-C-I-N-O-G-E-N CONCERT! How exciting... I may just have to go all the way up there just for this)
  6. Oh Jesus, you and bwhale are so damned ~French~ it's not even funny. Obviously neither of you actually listened to this. And bwhale your inane wet-dream remarks about some imaginary sexual scene based on some free-association you did on the cover image or something.. how lame and ridiculous. What the hell does any of this have to do with the music on the CD? Obviously the entire motivation for your remarks is that as you say "alot of people like this label lately"... and so you need to come along and set everyone straight and prove how ~superior~ you and your taste are, right? Well la-dee-dah. "Nothing" good on this??? "Nothing!" (twice!!) Well I have not heard it either, like you mr. cat, but I have heard alot of Omar Faruk Tekbilek and he is an astounding virtuoso performer and more to the point a genius composer with many brilliant albums of his own music with top-rate reviews and that are top-sellers. He could not produce a "bad" track if he tried. Your remarks are really really idiotic and pointless.

  8. OMG! Search reveals not one single mention of Black Dog ??!! How can this be? Well, I guess they are really not exactly "psychedelic trance", so OK... but close enough that alot of their output ought to totally float many peoples' boats here. Further Vexations Releases Reviews/Quotes [EXCERPTS] Check out all the latest reviews and quotes on our new release on this one single post, we’ll be posting the good, the bad and the ugly here for everyone to read. “…this Black Dog album may be clubbier but it’s right up there with the English School of Electronics.” Groove Magazine “Not mincing words, Further Vexations ranks among the great UK electronic albums.” Album Of The Month - Update Magazine “…yet again…there’s more bite to their bark than expected.” Album Of The Month - DJ Magazine 0093 is excellent! Indeed very Berlin. Technasia 0093 (Berlin mix) is the kind of track that shows the strength of the Black Dog. A spaced out epic techno track that tells a complete story taking the music beyond the floor and into the imagination. Dan Curtin Love The Black Dog, they never fail to impress. Meat Katie Oh man. This is right up my alley. Dark, interesting, beautiful and driving stuff. All three are very lovely. I’m going to be rocking ‘0093 (Berlin Mix)’ and ‘You’re Only SQL (BCN Mix)’ like mad! Let’s Go Outside Update Magazine - Further Vexations - Album Of The Month After the cerebral trampoline of last year’s Radio Scarecrow, The Black Dog humped a punishing gigging schedule which has galvanised them into a more floor-friendly follow-up, but with an underlying message attacking increasingly-Orwellian Government tactics and public complacency at how our lives are monitored and controlled. This punk-style discontent manifests in the pressure cooker grooves underpinning piledriving tech-kneesups like ’0093? and ‘We Are Haunted’, the mix of boiling anger in the complex rhythms and spatial beauty of the strings often recalling Underground Resistance. Seething emotions soar in tracks like ‘Stempel’ and ‘CCTV Nation’, the pounding grooves and intertwining textures swelling into glorious meteor-storms of rafter-swinging proportions which sometimes manage to enter the realms of avant classical. ‘You’re Only SQL’ carves a monolithic acid-funk path slashed with eerie strings and ‘Tunnels Ov Set’ hammers a slo-mo industrial dub-crash soundscape which closes the album on a suitably-ominous note. The timeless Dog have produced a work of astounding vision, terrible beauty and merciless dancefloor carnage, cocking a leg to techno glory once more but squirting out possibly their most complete work yet. Not mincing words, Further Vexations ranks among the great UK electronic albums.
  9. Listening now, very outstanding - feels like some of the weekend's substances are kicking back in |:-D) VERY nice, folks!! Intoxicating in the extreme! Electronics, mucho percussion, guitars, TWO female vocalists, flute, violin, etc etc Top-rate Down-Beat Psychedelic Goa-Trance on a par with Hallucinogen, Shpongle, etc. w/trippy female Indian-ish vocals., acoustic instruments expertly played (drums, flutes, etc) mixed with the electronics.... Quite stunning and inspirational. Makes me want to get up and dance to the awesome beauty of the cosmos!
  10. Downloaded it from emusic.com, listened to the first 1/2... really liked it, thought it seemed a little "light in the loafers", but there is probably more depth there than I was hearing 1st time through. So I turned it off then, intending to come back to it another day (this was yesterday) but did not yet, and just tonight Echoes radio show was playing something that made me think "Man that is great sounding! Gota find out what it is..." and so I had to pull up the playlist, and low and behold it was "Living Time", second to last, track 10, from this CD, and it was a very deep, complex and soaring track... really a very very nice listen! Perhaps this is just one of those records that does not impress at first. but you need to play it through a couple times without being hypercritical and over-analytic, and let it have its way with you and soak in and get under your skin... then later you find you really love it.
  11. Oh, it's EXTREMELY psychedelic. I would say pychedelia is its sole and driving purpose! You can download it from emusic.com as well as probably other places. (GREAT service by the way where you get a pile of free tracks just for trying it, and you get a pile more each month with your monthly service fee... like now I am getting 75 track/month for $25.00. THere are a surprisingly huge number of things from known to avant garde to obscure available on it that I want. But the great thing is you can download them as many times as you want once you do so once, whenever whereever... I have even "shared" the account, giving a friend or two my un/pw so they can download all the mp3s they want out of my "previously downloaded" list. I don't think it even checks if you are logged in twice from different locations.) ANYWAY - this record is WILDLY psychedelic, and quite hypnotic, beautiful, and uplifting. "Great", actually I would have to say. I can definitely recommend it.
  12. I just stumbled across this and WOW is it ever beautiful... dark, moody and very emotional with an insistent, incessant beat. Go to http://www.myspace.com/collinsvibe and the entire album will play beginning to end in Stereo. ALSO there is a free hr download of some other thing he did which is a little less dark, but has its really intense segments that sort of shocked me... see below, the Ibiza podcast link. A couple brief one-liners from reviews I read: "It takes real skill to make such technically accomplished production flow so slickly and Collins throws in afro-beats, horns, vocals and minimal samples with calculated precision to come up with something that is altogether completely relaxing and uplifting at the same time." "With elements that range from orchestral and jazzy, through to afro-percussive, Collins captures the latest morphings of tech house and minimal, peppering them with ancient, ethnic and orchestral influences." Cool cover pics too (thanks to some photographer but who knows perhaps they were Collin's idea as well). I guess they call it "Minimal House" but do not dismiss this as some empty silly "club" music... it is deeply felt and actually rather psychedelic. And written and produced with great feeling, subtlety and finesse. This is really something, even if you do not normall listen to this kind of music. Quite delicate with a diverse mixture of multicultural elements elements juxtaposed in a really fantastic way. My favorite is actually the opener "Fragile" beginning with its echoey soulful wordless female vocals.. then the rest that is slowly and seamlessly layered in. READ THE REVIEWS BELOW if you are sceptical, or just listen for free and hear for yourself.... but do give it a chance to play out for a while. Listen to it in high quality stereo streaming of his new album immediately for free at: http://www.myspace.com/collinsvibe Also download the free ONE HOUR "Ibiza voice podcast (2009.03)" at http://www.ibiza-voice.com/music/podcast/Anthony_Collins Downloads as a WinRAR archive that contains an 1-track 1:02 long mp3 file. You'll need WinRAR to unpack it, but that can be easily downloaded for a free 30 day trial with zero input, just by clicking OK. Sounds a bit spastic at first, but wait till a different deep soul female vocal comes in at about 2:30 and you might start liking it... Overall it is a bit cheekier, but has a mysterious dark feel to it nonetheless despite the dancefloor-friendly beats. Gets downright seriously TRIBAL VODOO HYPNOTIC feel to it or something, especially near the end at around the 45min mark then even deeper at 48m... very damn impressive, actually... I'd say this dude almost certainly does some serious molecular brain modification of one sort or another to come up with this shit! I LIKE IT! Anyway... a couple reviews of " Doubts & Shouts" I found: ----------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony Collins produces the sort of silky grooving house that straddles the precipice between lying on a comfy sofa or wiggling your ass off in an after hour bar. Whether its the sublime lightness of bricolage (liebe* detail) or the all out percussive noise of Rabouine House (Freak'nChic) the final effect is always deep and soothing. His debut album on the systematically strong Freak n Chic follows a similar vein. If you were having a dinner party in a Berlin apartment for a collection of DJs and some ubercool friends, this is the long player that you could safely stick on the stereo. Once you get past the eerily-Erasure-esque intro the terrain is smooth progressing from there. The delicate tickering score of 'Blossom' gently eases in the evening like a dry martini sipped on a stool in a piano bar, whilst the closing 'Substance' just needs a fat cigar and some tapping slippers. Neatly slipping in between are some more 'Shout' moments admittedly. The smoky lines of 'Mist' might drag you out of the armchair with its old skool atmospheric vibe and certainly the 13 minute long stand out piece "Prism' would get the furniture pushed back for some serious rug cutting, but the rounded and warm sounds are consistent throughout. It takes real skill to make such technically accomplished production flow so slickly and Collins throws in afro-beats, horns, vocals and minimal samples with calculated precision to come up with something that is altogether completely relaxing and uplifting at the same time. ------------------------------------------------------ French house producer Anthony Collins has been steadily coming to light from the dark shadows of the underground, with over 40 productions under his belt in a mere three years on imprints like Get Physical Music, Liebe Detail, Cecille and Curle Recordings. Today we gave his debut full-length ‘Doubts & Shouts’ on esteemed Freak N Chic a spin and can confirm it’s managed to further edify his status as a talented producer in the underground circuit. Known for his creative use of percussion and sexy atmospherics, his debut on Freak N Chic, pulls out all stops with ten previously unreleased tracks. With elements that range from orchestral and jazzy, through to afro-percussive, Collins captures the latest morphings of tech house and minimal, peppering them with ancient, ethnic and orchestral influences.
