  1. In this Etnica live set, there are two remixes of old time classic: Technossomy's Elektron Bender och Sheyba's Trance Africa Express. It made me dream that Etnica would release a Goa Classics Remixed album just as Astral Projection did. What old time classics do you think would be suitable for an Etnica treatment? Here are some suggestions from me: Chakra - Hallucinator Kailash - Higher MFG - Shape the Future Power Source - Skywalker Slinky Wizard - Funkus Munkus (already sounds like it could be an Etnica track) Witchcraft - Whale

  2. Fun question. Here would be my list of tracks for Etnica to remix for a compilation: Psygone - Camaro Kanitou Juno Reactor - 10,000 Miles Total Eclipse - Space Clinic Battle of the Future Buddhas - Tigerhill MWNN - Big Troubles in Outer Space (see if they can do it better than Ofer did) Astral Projection - Zero Something like that.

  3. I think the genre in general has had its head up its ass for a while. Too much technology and too little creativity. Just because you can emulate the sound of a thousand dreams doesn't mean it's going to sound better than one dream. It's the whole lesson we all learned from Jurassic Park. Just because we could doesn't mean we should. Music is fundamental. It's not about how crystalline our production is. Be angry. Be sad. Be punk. Be something. Don't make it about the technology. Make it about the music. Here's a great example of a near-perfect track from way back with less-than-perfect production but loads of feeling:

  4. Good post! I'd love to see the forums flourish too and was surprised to see the shortage of reviews the past 1-3 years. I've been around - busy like many of you. It's nice to see the forums are alive! I disappeared in 2022 as energy went to other things-- self-care, surgeries. Editing our last short Indie film I directed. Then it's off to bigger things > https://jamesliakos.com And YES, I plan to incorporate GOA in features but I digress. I heard the new Morphic Resonance album (better than the second IMO), Filteria (some super tracks though I'm more captivated/impressed with Jannis' third & fourth album comparably speaking), and Khetzal - Examines (2021) I thought was superb, magical, showcasing some of the most beautiful, satisfying (sound/melody work!) Goa songs I've heard in some time. I just came across Chi-A.D.'s lovely 2020's song "Into the Light" and just opened a thread > General Psytrance. Also felt inspired to re-review Virtual Spirit (1997) after returning to CHI-A.D. lately. The artist uploaded virtually every release to her official YouTube page (attached below) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk96OhKUo6M0IXAPe7Da4cQ Sounds like its been a busy last few years for many of us, with energy going to numerous things as we evolve and grow. At times I feel very tuned in to the flow of the conscious process. It's cool to see many of us are still there. PS: It's okay to post shorter reviews. Do whatever inspires you in ways that are positive! Stay safe! Cheers

  5. Let this ugly topic serve as an example of why there aren't so many women participating in making psytrance (or even talking about it here on Psynews). The fact remains that you cannot open a thread about a female producer or DJ without a bunch of boys commenting on the attractiveness of the specimen, posting photos to help assess the matter, or even making lewd comments about what they'd really like to do with her. It's disgraceful, and no wonder there are fewer women participating in online communities such as this one... you would also get tired if your gender was a source of endless fascination/revulsion and always a matter for comment (as it has been in this very thread). The main problem I have with this thread was simply that one conclusion made earlier, that women are naturally less creative than men. I don't think anyone would be right to insist on gender equality; different selective pressures have acted on the different genders throughout our evolutionary history, and the genders possess different common traits. It isn't equality I would insist on but equity (fairness), and generalizing women as incapable in the creative arts is not in any way fair. Perhaps women are not as motivated to compete in the field? There are many explanations for the observed phenomenon such that callous judgements about natural capabilities simply aren't very valid.
