RTP Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Nice! Can I ask how you did it? Did you get the project files or did you remix it by sampling or re-creating the sounds (because I hear differences that are definitely not sound sampled to my ears)... I was always keen to remix stuff, but I figured it's impossible without the files (would have to be a Cubase Project in my case) - and even people who I asked to remix us always asked for the project files. 1 Quote

Hi, I removed the drums and bass using Izotope RX, then added my own. You can do that with any program that has stem separation (Cubase added the option in v15). I also doubled some existing sounds with my own to give them more definition, and added a couple of lines. When I don't have access to the original stems (as is usually the case), that is what I do. Also if I call it a "bootleg", as in this track, it means I have not changed much. If I call it a "remix", then I've done more stuff. 1 1 Quote
RTP Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I never heard of stem separation, read about it now ... so this thing really unmixes a complete track and separates it back into individual layers? Does it work with standard mp3s? Sounds extremely interesting... Quote
denstrow Posted November 14 Author Posted November 14 Yes - depending on the program used, it usually gives you 4 layers (drums, bass, vocals, other). The stems have some artifacts, you might wanna compare apps (I know Cubase 15, izotope RX and Spectralayers, but there are others - possibly there's some online app too) for the best result. You can work with an mp3 as well but, since the stems aren't perfect and mp3s are already a lossy format, you might wanna try to find the best possible quality original file. 1 Quote
RTP Posted 29 minutes ago Posted 29 minutes ago Sincere thanks - Cubase 15 will be our solution as we are native on Cubase. I say "we" because your info was so good, I actually opened this thread in the studio to show my friend ... It's a true gamechanger. Quote
denstrow Posted 23 minutes ago Author Posted 23 minutes ago Glad to have helped! It's a good solution for unofficial remixes where you don't have access to the stems. There are also AI tools for stem separation, but I haven't used any, so I don't know which are good. 1 Quote
RTP Posted 14 minutes ago Posted 14 minutes ago Yes - and this is precisely what I might be using it for, at least to experiment ... if anytime we or I happen to come up with a cool thing like this one from you, I'll get back on it (ps: if you want to know how our best shot on a remix, check my sig - without stem separation, we used an official Remix Kit) Quote
