01. Smash

02. Bubble Up

I am very positively surprised by the sound of this EP. From the first moment of listening I became very good quality impression of those two tracks. What kept me up to listening this release is actually a very good arrangement of the complete beat. Very good techy groove with an exceptional background samples of non articulated characters. Spooky and creepy but with very energetic emphasis. Fantastic moment that runs through most of bassline is one of the most responsible why my legs are separated from the floor. No matter of lot coverage full on moments, this release I would describe like one of experimental psychedelic tech trance tune with gothic melodic parts. Excellent combination.

And what is the best it fit in almost any kind of psychedelic trance DJ sets. I am not surprised at all with label who published this EP cause If I remember well, in the near past, this label already had an expirience with this kind of style. Even one of their label artists, Shift, had similar shares of their previous releases. No matter of that is the europian combination of artists in project, definitely music is South African style.

In case I'm a promoter these guys would be on my booking list for shore, but instead of that will be in my play list for shore.

One step closer to the universe.

My best wishes to you boys!!!

Holly crap! This is very darn good! I thought Chaos Opera was quite good although it failed to give me the shivers I get when listening to Oblivion (New Blood 2 compilation). But this is a whole different level. It sounds very oldschool yet strangely avant garde. I'm out of words. The bar has been raised. I really hope other talented producers understand this and do tracks in a similar style. Absurdly good.

Artist: Principles Of Flight

Title: Smash EP

Label: Timecode Records

Released: 9th April 2010 (Digitally)

Style: Psychedelic Trance

Tracklist

1. Smash (9:58)

2. Bubble Up (7:51)

Hot on the heels of Principles Of Flight's great album Chaos Opera on Timecode Records last year is a digital EP release, Smash. There are two tracks Bubble Up & Smash. Both are everything I expect from PoF, they are energetic, have great basslines and atmosphere that tells a story. And in true PoF fashion that story is like a dark, fun, twisted fairytale without any of the things that make fairytales childish and with everything that makes them pure fantasy.

Smash holds onto the fantasy atmosphere created in PoF's previous two albums with a thunderous beat and crunchy bassline. The melodies and sounds put me in mind of being in the forest outside a town in the middle ages, huge gates in the distance separating civilisation from the darkness outside. I feel firmly outside with the darkness but as usual for PoF this darkness is like a warm comforting blanket, the twisted monstrosities I dance with all have more humanity than humanity does and while everything look nightmarish on the surface it is really a wonderful dreamlike experience.

Bubble Up is particularly bouncy & I can picture a huge castle in some fantasy wonderland filled with dark shapes and Burton-esque characters. In the centre of the castle is a large hall filled with masquerading party goers but unlike a usual black tie ball room dance everyone is off their nut dancing like nobody is watching. The dancefloor slowly gets fuller and fuller and eventually there are people being dragged under making the floor a living thing that crunches as the still upright dances smash their feet down.

I am a big fan of PoF's sound, I love their take on darkness, I love their beats, their basslines and melodies but most of all I love how their music conjures such wonderful images in my head. Most modern psytrance doesn't do that for me & I find myself always looking to ambient for a really trippy, painting pictures in my head experience but PoF manages to paint those pictures while remaining extremely upbeat and dancefloor friendly. The only problem with this is that it is only an EP and is therefore over before I know it, I feel like a child falling asleep a few chapters in to his bedtime story and not knowing what happened in the end. This has wet my appetite for more from PoF and has made me listen to Chaos Opera again.

Principles of Flight – Smash EP (Timecode Records) 2010 (TCDIGI002)

01. Smash 09:59

02. Bubble Up 07:52

After the critically acclaimed second album Chaos Opera by PoF released on the honorable SA record label Timecode Records in 2009, PoF is back with a planned series of digital EP’s (so I have read) to please the grease of nighttime lullabies wanting some glitch-techno inspired PsyTrance with balls of crunch-infested mechanical steel and a heart of organic chaos.

The EP starts out with the title track named Smash (T1), which is a pretty suiting description for PoF’s latest tracks/sound because of their smashing attitude and raw power with a beautiful flower. The Smash track begins with ambience and melodic mystery to catch your curiosity about what’s to happen in the land of strangeness, building the suspension for your pleasure. As the beat gathers the glitch rises to wider horizons and extreme beat manifestations starts to roll in heavy manners. This track has such lovely and bouncy beats that it might make you cum right there on the mental dancefloor. The vibe is creepy with thumping basslines scraping off scarecrows and other slime infested creatures. Effects are beautifully arranged making one smile as it was sunshine in the ash of technodomes. The story telling is what we are used to with the creations of PoF, adventures, interesting and extremely exhilarating with jumping steps in loony places deep within your state of loco. ‘Oh what fun it is to run along the sounds of these smashers of thrashers. And when the welcoming fairytale break comes along it makes time seem distant and forgettable as the melodies gather for a last stand in chaotic dramatizing of one’s staggering and insane dance. Thumping basslines, did I mention this track has an awesome thumping bassline just thumping your wit away to different strays!?!

Next up is the Bubble Up (T2) track which got some crazy voice manipulations of a human being trying to sound like an energetic alien horse who is neighing, snorting, grunting, blowing and maybe even snickering in the outer cosmos of deranged tales inside bubbling glitches and farting festers. The bassline is more FullOn directed with stronger go and punchier knobs. As the break enters a mocking organ play that starts to stagger the melody to expand the thought about what is to happen as the lionized horse like sounds returns to bubble it Up in blubbering glitches and static echinoid sounds from the underground.

Recommendation: I strongly suggest that if you want some dancefloor killers to die your audience so much they will be screaming for more madness, this digital glitch (yes, I’ve mentioned glitch a lot, but it is!!) EP is for you and your nighttime creatures of alluring fun and dance in trance.

Jump jump ~ Boing boing !!
