visine
What are your favorite old school synth classics? To this day I love hearing stuff like Depeche Mode for example. Here are a few videos of tracks that come to mind immediately: Visage - Fade To Gray I would imagine this song influenced quite a few electronic music artists. Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence Great Classic!! Pet Shop Boys - Being Boring This one had a nostalgic feel to it even back then, let alone now after all these years. I was too young to really understand it back then but turns out it's really about times when these guys were young teens, ideals that they held and how their perspectives changed as they were growing up, so indeed, the nostalgic theme is felt in terms of both story line and the sound. I was too young when some of this stuff came out to really be able to say "yeah I was part of that scene from the beginning" but this sort of stuff continued to get played on TV and radio so I did get exposure to it over the years. Otto Matta
Ugh, Enjoy the Silence? To me that's late Depeche Mode. I guess I'm old. Okay, how about these? (Avoiding the '70s classics.) Herbie Hancock - Rockit

Lemmiwinks
this is REALLY oldschool: 1959!! -- didn't even know they made electronic music back then lol Also, listen to the part starting around 1:20 add a 4/4 kick and you have pure detroit techno!!! What I find even freakier than the music itself is what the hell did these guys use for sampling and recording?
Bahamut
Ash Ra Tempel - Deep Distance (1976) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oinoP5qd9LI&fmt=18 wonderful track I just love the warm sounds and feelgood melodies
Lemmiwinks
where is it i've heard this track before? A movie or something oh that track and were used in MANY documentaries about "future technology" in the 80s I remember documentaries showing how we'd all be having cars running on water and the drove themselves, and that monorails would be all over the place by the year 2000... it's almost 2010 and still nothing
needle ninja
I looove this widely unknown but superior act: This is great! I also loved their single In the Army. I have to add my favorite early 80's band, Berlin. Sex..I'm A this was great for a 13-year old
Otto Matta
Speaking of the army and retro synth classics, Art of Noise's was huge for me as a kid.
Bahamut
Vangelis - Pulstar (1976) Absolute classic. My favorite of all his 1970s music. Vangelis - Spiral (1977) The opening arpeggio is the best. The part at 1:20-2:40 is a bit annoying and the rest of the track is nice.
Otto Matta
La Mort du Loup from L'Apocalypse des Animaux is probably my favorite Vangelis. (Don't watch the video. It's cheesy.)

needle ninja
Georgio Moroder - The chase Yea, this is the ultimate classic and probably stuck with me more than 99.999% of other music. One of the greatest songs ever made?....

Bahamut
Vangelis - Theme from Antarctica Also one of his best and most beautiful pieces. The melodies shine in their simplicity and the piece is so well crafted that it's hard not to like. He was a truly inspired musician back then.
