Cubase SX problem-Pan doesn't work

Recommended Posts

I finally managed to make my first amateuristic track with Cubase SX but I have a big problem, pan doesn't work.

For start I'm using the included VST's (a1,vb1,JX etc.) and I don't have problem with the drum VST's, pan works ok. But when it comes to the synths it doesn't. The sound is still stereophonic, chorus works fine but pan doesn't! Any idea?

are you using Automation?

Make sure the "R" button is on your audio channel that you want your panning to playback on.  Sometimes it takes a few moments for "R" to activate.

Turn on "W" when you want to create the automation with a mouse.

Yep, everything is ok with the ''R'' button and Automation works perfectly with the other parameters like volume or transpose.

The mystery is that I discovered that pan works with the Neon and cs40 instruments but not with a1,vb1 and JX16.

Another problem: Volume Automation doesn't works with the drum instruments!

Yes there is a difference and this is always quite confusing for Cubase beginners. There are 2 channel strips for each VSTi in the mixer. Most VSTi's don't react to volume or pan changes on their MIDI channel strip. It's best to hide all MIDI channels in the mixer (if you don't need them for external synths or so)....
