1. Had the chance to record the Dj-Set I played last weekend Enjoy !! https://soundcloud.com/onkelbibber/bibber-live-zuruck-zu-den-wurzeln-festival-2017-set
2. I don't really see (or hear) the similarity to Thongoro, but great that you guys enjoyed listening
3. well, actually I'm not playing at those parties, and barely playing tech-stuff at all at the moment. I used to but now it's just psytrance in public. Maybe you have some faster stuff around 138-140? it can still be quite tech, but would be great as an intro for a psy set
4. like it ! we have a party series here in Berlin just playing psy-techno stuff on one of the floors, would great there
5. ENJOY https://soundcloud.com/onkelbibber/onkel-bibber-is-walking-on-air-set Have a listen to my label-friends most recent live recorded sets as well:
6. These guys are known for weird techno/trance stuff, but this old one is pretty psy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkjYd3nYfK8 this what they are known for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbB3iGRHtqA
7. sounds pretty good to me. big stage, good drums good job! maybe kick and bass could have a little more presence in the mix on some parts. especially when they first come in fully on 0:55. maybe try to boost above 2.5k or something or try a general boost of 1db. might be enough...
8. I think this could make some good sounds if you have a nice fx chain on it and use it subtle (not really recognizing it as a vocal). And as said before, if you have a complex chain, it doesn't really matter which mic you use. SM58 is great because of it's price fr the quality, but you could even use cheaper ones.
9. I think this kind of music i make is predestined for being played on big system and having people dance to it. And that is also why i make this music, except for enjoying the results by myself it's a great feeling to see people having fun with something you've created. In those situations you've helped them having a good time and therefore have a good time together. And as it's definitley focused on the bass on some parts the bass has to be good by itself. Sure this is also a matter of taste and i sometimes listen to "pro" basslines through my dt880s and think that they don't sound so good by itself. But they work on the big systems. So even if you have a different taste of bassline there are some things that should be payed attention to to have them be working on big systems (or on any system, if that is your goal).
10. In general to the layering question: How do you people layer your basslines? Some people have 3 layers (click, saw, sub), you use 2 (saw, sub) and I don't layer at all. I use one osc and processing. sometimes i add a click to it, but not always. According to materias interview on youtube i try to keep it simple. Any advises here from more experienced users?
11. Maybe there are better synth for psy basses with which you can have your results more easily and quicker, i don't know, lack of experience except operator and zebra. But the longer i use zebra i think the results are getting better and better. Of course a good bassline needs some experience, too. Here are my 2 latest basslines with zebra 2 (no enbedded player because it's private: https://soundcloud.com/onkelbibber/aberan_07_sample/s-wJIXu https://soundcloud.com/onkelbibber/abinit_13_sample/s-2Jrcw
12. Thanks for your review. That's exactly the issue i have with these tracks, too. Bassline ^^
13. I also do have pretty much the same start for a bassline. Some parameters change of course and the further eq/compression/saturation varies.
14. i like it. maybe a little bit more mides to get it more presence but fits good to the track.
15. nice acid line recursion loop well I'm still not totally satisfied with my basslines. they could be more present in the whole mix and i'm missing the definition in the low end. Hard to get that right without having too much staccato in the bassline. you know like loosing that nice rolling that keeps it all together; like every bass note is too much for it's own. I will try the other filter types and the xmf on my next bassline, thanks staccato
16. I use one osc with a saw wave. I'm still trying to find the best one and sometimes also a different phase did the trick. Of course no further fx in the osc itself, no width and so on. the osc is set to retrigger and env1 i assigned (standard) [-> attack 0, delay varies/not too short/filter does this part, sustain 0, release 8-10 (140bpm)] then just one vcf1 with env2 assigned [-> attack 0, delay around 26-27, sustain 0, release 8-10 (140bpm)] vcf1 filter type varies, no resonance, no drive or whatever. got to find the sweet spot with these parameters: vcf1 cutoff, the amount of env2 effecting the cutoff and env2 delay. Even having this well set it just doesn't sound that good. further processing is necessary. often just adding a multiband dynamics in ableton without any compression going on giv es the bass a big boost in richness und clarity.... add a lowcut, multiband distortion and compression, eqing and so on is a long process to get it right...do copies, try another fx chain, compare the copies... result
17. Hey folks, i purchased zebra 2 almost a year ago and I'm very pleased so far. My results are getting better and better. So: I'm very interested in the experience of other psytrance producers with this synth (especially for basslines) and also would love to hear! their results. anyone? greets
18. I actually like that bassline, personally and technically. Fits to the track.
19. When I started making electronic music almost 10 years ago i used Reason 3 and didn't have problems with that. Then there was a break for a few years where I started using ableton every once in a while. I struggeled using that DAW in general to that time because i never constantly used it. By that time i always had a lot of unfinished loops and never finished anything. Then 4 years ago I had a lot of free time and suddenly finished one track. That was the point from where i was able to finished one track after another. Here is how I work now: I always start with a kick, bassline and snare loop. Then start experimenting around with synth, loops and crazy effect chains to get something nice and interesting. So I end up with maybe a 1-4 or 8 bar loop i really like. Once I have that I often create a simple intro or build up before it. This gives me the right feeling of how this loop will sound in a complete track. By having this i already have a few elements i can play with. I take these and change them to get the next few bar. What really helps then is closing your eyes and listen to what you've got so far. Imagine you are standing on the dancefloor having a lot of fun enjoying the music and dancing and now try to figure out what you would like to happen in the music in this situation. Do you want it to become stronger, more loaded with sounds or do feel that it's time to go down a bit and get more emotional or maybe it's already time for a break? Of course you can change everything afterwards. i.e. on my latest project i started with a great bassline and a pretty nice drop. This part is now located in the end of the track. mixing and making everything sound good is something i do on the fly. Of course when the track is almost done I start to polish things here and there, sometime for hours. changing some sounds because they are rythmically good but just don't work in the whole mix. compressing, thinking about my stereo field and so on. I do these already while working creativly bot i redo this again and again in the process and especially in the end.
20. why don't you go for a online shop with a 30days refund policy like thomann and give it a try like that. one month should be enough. I think i'll stick with a 25keys model, because that's way more protable and my "studio" is also located on a desk in the living room, so not much space ah i see. now i know what you mean (hedonix)
21. thanks, yeah this velocity advise is really good, never thoght about that. jep, as i plan to work on live sets some day i think it's better to get something more professional right away. you mean this guy? http://www.ektoplazm.com/artist/hedonix i think his stuff is totally different
22. i guess you've already seen the mpk mini in store. If not for your information: it feels (of course, according to the price) very cheap. maybe good enough to get an idea quick into the project but nothing for a lifetime, live playing or real "piano" playing. especially beacause the keys are very small. Not sure about the size of the arturia. anyway, as my music is very rythmic and percussion-bases i'm still not sure if it really helps for this stuff: https://soundcloud.com/onkelbibber/sets/onkel-bibber-chomp-a-word-ep what do you think?
23. That's sone very good advises here. I already thought about my Future workflow in i getsome keys, but its Kind of Hard to imagine how the Controller will finally be integrated and used. Especially regarding the fact, that i want it for both, home Studio and maybe live Performance in the Future... Thanks for your help and giving me some new directions to think about (Especially the Type of knobs)
24. Hey folks, just released my first EP on my friends label It's Progressive Psytrance (no offbeat) and comes as a free WAV download. would be great to get some feedback, especially on the sound quality in general. But don't worry about that issues in the "Tear Up Phrases" Bassline, was a mistake in the master project, will be replaces with the right file during the next days. Enjoy. And have a great weekend https://soundcloud.com/onkelbibber/sets/onkel-bibber-chomp-a-word-ep
