1. You reply to this thread after 4 years and a half

I think we can start a total new discussion here, because in the last 5 years AP changed their style alot! (but how... that's another thing, héhé)

I've been working on the reply for that long.. haven't slept much
2. yes 'x-y-z' knobs can be assigned to any parameter but again its not enouph!

i make my patches oonly when i want to use some specific sounds live !

as for the other guy said that its not sound like analog OFCOURSE it doesnt sound like analog cause its not analog! but it sounds full and rich and its capable of very nice sounds (ion and micron) and i can say cause i had many many hardware synths the past decade under my fingers that it sounds alot better than many va's and even better than some analog ones and the price is unbetable!

Exactly! It does sound good (just not analog though) but I don't think it's without competition in the price range and I would personally choose another.

It just seems ridiciulous to compare it to Moog, virus, nord and so on.

3. I've been working on choosing out the most esesential goa tracks for about ten years and the list is still not fine tuned. Here it is so far:

Koxbox - "Fuel On"

Unconscious Collective - "Flourostani Transcendance"

Cosmosis - "Doors Of Perception"

Abstrakta Araberr - "Sitt I Soffan"

Section X - "Galaxian"

Technossomy - "V.T.O.L."

Shakatura - "All Hallows Morning"

Psychaos - "Dense Dawn"

Etnica - "Trip Tonite"

Sundog - "Touch The Sun"

Psychopod - "Psychopod"

I Haven't put too much thought into essential whole albums (other than Pleiadians - IFO and the first two from Koxbox) but the following artists have been very essential and influencing, though I can't point out single tracks: Hallucinogen (perhaps "LSD"), Green Nuns Of The Revolution, Astral Projection ("Enlighted Evolution"?) and many more...

4. I don't hate Ass-trail Projection either. I actually think several of their tracks sound beautiful and with high energy. It's just that they lack depth and become tiresome the more you listen to them. There are many other names whose tracks (that may not sound as catchy in the beginning) become better and better for each listen.

5. im thinking of buying me a "real" synth, so i can better learn to create nice sounds and to understand

i mean i can make nice patches with softsynth, but i dont know i want some real knobs to touch.

what do you recommend?

i dont wanna spend too much on it, and yeah i have no idea about hardware synths :P

all i know is those famous names

585865

Frankly I don't know much about it yet but the new Roland SH-201 may seems interesting for you. It's simple, clear and - if it lives up to the SH name - very wellsounding.

You should also check out Novation X-station and - if you're on very low budget - a microkorg.

6. This is what u should have.

Posted Image

Forget Viruses and such if u want true analog sound better than Microkorg, Moog and such..  This is a true anti virus.. I bought it yesterday and I overslleped my work today.. Its really easy and simple, u dont need knobs just push and turn

Posted Image

and play, its that simple.. U can use it as rythm machine also.. Ive got whole bunch of VSTs but I think Ill forgot them since I have this little thingy..

Latter when u will have the money u can buy some MIDI keyboard like M-Audio Axiom to go with it like I plan to do if u really want that knobs, pads and sliders.. But u can control everthing with Micron so there is no need for MIDI controller for start..

586410

Such crap - I've used the micron a lot among lots of other synths. It's just a cheap digital synth that doesn't even come close in comparision to the ones you mentioned (besides the microkorg). And it is NOT true analog sounds, not even close. But it's okay for some sounds.

8. I just bought this album used few days ago for about 3 euros!! This is indeed good ol'school goa. Not outstanding but a no-nonsense really good album from the beginning to the end with no disappointments.

Best tracks 1, 3, 8

7.5/10

Review:

Ok, this still is one of the best compilations I own. It was released only

in Finland, and it hasn't been for sale for years. The reason I'm reviewing

this is that everyone should go and get these timeless classics by any means

necessary (yes, even MP3s are allowed). First track by Phreaky is probably

the best of the best. I mean woah, it's so good and intense it'll blow your

socks off, guaranteed! Truly full-on, truly melodic. Track 2 starts less

hectic and developes into a beautifull morning-tune, superb. Next track by

Martin Freeland is quite possible the best he ever made, uncompromised goa

without a hint of club-cheese. Not too fast, soft and melodic. At this point

you probably think I'm starting to go out of pro-verbs. Well, yes I am, but

it doesn't matter really, as no words can do justice toTotal Eclipse's

"can't do that"! Pure acid killer that'll mess your mind badly if you are

not careful! I think "Bony incus" is the best known out of these tracks as

it's appeared on several compilations, but it's great nevertheless. The

following two tracks by Simon Carman and John Ford (+ Mark Allen in

Mindfield) are catchy and a bit silly, but especially "Touch the sun" sounds

very unique with an oriental theme, really nice. "Let's get stoned and watch

the freaks" is somewhat weaker a track but the sample is arguably

unforgettable. The only bad track on this album is "The day before point" by

Finnish artist Alier, the levels are phukked up and only thing you can hear

are the hi-hats. I can't imagine why this track got released at all, let

alone on this otherwise great compilation. Oh well, on with the good ones,

then. "San yacid" shouldn't need to much of an intrduction, let's just say

it's an essential track to own, melodic tune in perfect Cosmosis fashion.

"Nysos" by Joking Sphinx rounds up the album quite nicely with it's mellow

rhytms and melodies, although it's pretty clearly audible that it was made

ages ago. But at least it has aged with style. All in all, all the tracks

except "The day before point" are a significant piece of goa trance history,

and this compilation is a masterpiece among Finnish releases (BTW, where are

they nowadays? And I'm not talking about overly-weird Exogenic stuff.). Make

no mistake, this one gets a definite 10/10

472976

Only released in Finland? I bought it back in 1997 in Denmark, but it sadly got stolen at a party. Anyway a good comp especially the first 6 tracks. 7.5/10
10. Koxbox - Life Is ...

Posted Image

Artist: Koxbox

Title: Life Is ...

Label: Blue Room

Date: 1996

Track listing:

01. 09'22" Life Is ... (Master Mix)

02. 08'32" Life Is ... A Gas (X-Dream Mix)

03. 08'49" Stay Psychedelic

Review:

This EP is a total killer. A must have indeed. Track 1 is Koxbox's

legendary, Dragon Tales's best track, "Life Is ....", which is *exactly*

same as on full album, even though it has [master mix] added after it.

Anyway, track is 98.47% perfect, it has exceptionally groovy basslines, and

light kick, which makes bassline easier to follow. This track deserves full

10/10. Unfortunately things can only get worse after such a masterpiece as

a starting track...but, X-dream merely never has disappointed us, and it

succeeds this time as well, track is nice, but not as good as the original

version, 8/10 would be fair. Stay psychedelic is nice track, and has very

similar sound to "Dragon Tales" album, it has a lot of sounds layered on

each other, just a little of rhythm, nothing to compare with "Life Is ....",

in fact...it reminds me of Stratorfierce on "Dragon Tales". Grade of 8/10

pretty much sums it up. This EP in whole really is not disappointing at

all, on the contrary indeed. I give 9/10.

I fully agree; good review
11. The only bad thing about this baby is the ridiculous cover. The music deserves better and if it wasn't because I knew psychopod already when i bought it, I probably wouldn't have payed attention to it in the first place

12. Pretty fine comp. It is also one of the very few places you can find the ultracool blasting all-time classic 'Galaxian'. Well worth just for that track, and then some extra goodies for a bonus.

13. Yeah, so i am really happy with them up to this point.  The tracks i mix on them (all of them) seem to sound good on a variety of sound systems of varying quality.  I have been told this is a good way to tell how good a pair of monitors are.  Before these we were using some old sony monitors and these were a HUGE improvement.  Like night and day.  When i bought them, i was able to do a side by side comparison with a variety of other brands.  IMO they were the best sounding of the ones i listened to.  I even listened to some much more expensive monitors (i remember some were event brand) and these seemed superior.

Unfortunatly i didnt have any psytrance cds with me at the time so i couldn't do the comparison with psytrance.

I hope this helps  B)

Thanks a lot, and it doesn't matter too much with the psytrance comparision since it's mostly a secondary part of my music creation. My choice will probably be between KRK V6 II and Genelec 8030A, the price is about the same.

By the way - are your KRKs V or VII?
