  1. I didn't hear that much mixes this year, but it's gotta be Astro Cortex - The Environmental Experience.

I've got three mixes that he posted here on pienews, like all of them very much. I'm hoping there will be something new from mr Cortex in the future *hint hint* :D

On the trance front I heard two sets by NASA that I liked very much.

  2. I don't know. I cannot find Tryshasla anywhere to purchase. :(

The SendingOrbs site supposedly has it, but won't let any new account be created so that I can order it.

:( That's odd, did you e-mail them about it? I created my account right before I ordered Tryshasla which was only a short while ago.. two weeks ago or so I guess, and everything worked like a charm. <_<

  3. Soccer Trance :(

If you look at what's being played by the "eurotrance" likes of Tiesto, and even more Armin van Buuren and suchlike DJs, you notice that these days you barely need any production skills to have your tracks played out by them. If you look at the utter tripe they play, for instance the latter in his weekly radio show, it's extremely amateurish music, lacking any creativity and originality. He and his (enormous!) fanbase are convinced it's the tranciest trance out there but in reality there's nothing trancy about it,just generic music.. build-up, breakdown, climax, the end. I used to call it "Reason-trance" (no offense to users of Propellerheads Reason here.. I know you can make very good music with it! They just couldn't :P ).

You'll see that even Tiesto is playing minimalish, tech-hous'ish records. Most of them are jumping on eachother's bandwagons anyway. if $armin plays certain record=true, then $all his dj buddies play it too=true! you know what I mean

There was this track "Domino" by techno-dude Oxia (on the Kompakt label I think). DJ Armin van Buuren suddenly played it, then the next trancedude played it, and the next, and the next, and the next. Boo! <_<

I know that it's all a matter of taste, but seriously thousands of people just don't want to face the truth. :)

  4. I have a feeling prog psy will die just a little bit. But I hope not.

I'm thinking it will all be a bit more of the same and the prog things will go even more house'ish. Just like recent Tribal Vision releases, lots of DNox&Beckers- sort of music.

Although I do hope 2007 will be a great year for Iboga and their sublabels, and suchlike labels.

  5. I don't really like to pigeonhole my tunes.. infact I wasn't even sure how to classify this track, so I just stuck it under 'Electronic' in iTunes...

I'd say my music was a crossover between IDM, Dub + Ambient with classical arrangements (in places), though sometimes it could be completely different. To be honest now I'm not really trying to write any specific style, just Music (and that's what's important). :)

That sounds cool! And I totally agree, I don't like pigeonholing either but I sometimes find it handy to describe the music style :)

  6. Finished it now. :) I decided to introduce the piano right at the end, so there's about a minute or two of solo piano... Clocks in at around 7:30. Now called Malfunction (the name suited better for me).

Now spinning it to check for final nuances. :)

Do you make psytrance, or another genre ?

  7. Your Secede mentions lately have peaked my curiousity. I will have to see what I can find to try from it.

    Was it that obvious?

I'm really liking his Tryshasla album I think it's a great piece of work, but this track Leraine is really out of this world for me at the moment. Such sheer beautifulnessness, kind of like the "perfect track", to me, I think :D

I had been expecting this to arrive yesterday or today, but no mailman appeared! Got me worried there for a sec as I really wished to have this here before christmas, otherwise I would have had to wait until at least wednesday. Luckily though, the maildude appeared (4 hours late, poor guy must be working his butt off just before christmas), with CBL! Thanks mr. Santa B)

CBL album and Secede album make a nice christmas prezzie for myself. :)

  9. I'm pretty sure the track you are after is: Grooveyard - Mary Go Wild (Krzysztof Choclow Remix), which tiesto played in the past months, I don't know what it's like cause I don't listen to tiesto.

Don't ask me why I know this  I just happened to remember having read the name months ago while browsing playlists on some other forum.

It has nothing to do with mr tiesto by the way, he just played the record.

  10. Whoa that's going to be a tough one, I've never done a top 5 before

Also I only bought 2 psytrance cds this year and I'm not quite sure if any one of them is going to end up in the top 5, I guess mine will be an ambient/downtempo top.

I'm thinking Androcell-Efflorescence, Spyra-Orphan Waves, Namlook&Gaudi-Re:sonate, maybe VA-Oxycanta, maybe Between Interval-Autumn Continent, not quite sure yet actually. Ticon album could be the only trance cd that'll make my list. Also I'd love to put Secede-Tryshasla in my top 5 but it's 2005. <_<

I'm certainly looking forward to see everyone's top 5s though!

  11. But wouldn't it be easier if he just made less music & concentrated on making what he did release awesome?

I'm often wondering, regarding the fact that he does release quite a lot of music (even though it's faaaaaar less than he did in the nineties), does his music sometimes really lack quality, originality, creativity? I mean if I compare some of his most recent outings, let's say "Re:sonate" with Gaudi, the recent cds with David Move D Moufang, and Virtual Vices 5 with Spyra, I tend to think they're all so diverse I don't really mind him making so much music. So therefore I wonder if he would concentrate on less would that improve anything?

He's done brilliant music in the past even when his label was literally releasing a new cd every other week.

To be fair I've never seen him as someone who goes for quantity instead of quality, not only because I think the far biggest part of his releases are of high quality, but also the fact all releases on FAX have been limited since the start in the early 90s, he can't be doing so much music for the money I reckon. :)

I do get your point though, I was thinking something like that too when I was first listening to two of the recent Move D / Namlook releases that I bought.. it kind of felt like there could be another 10 cds by them with the same kind of music. Still I think his music is of high quality and I certainly do not regret buying my FAX cds. If it weren't for the fact that ever since he's adding an additional DTS disc (which is nice) to the new releases, the cds getting a bit too expensive for moi, I would have gotten myself all new FAX releases.. ;)
