  1. I certainly wouldn't deny having download illegal mp3 stuff. Actually it sort of introduced me to the psy music scene at one point, as I used to listen to generic trance and progressive house and for some reason I just didn't hear or read anything about this "psy" music, except some old acid-drenched goa tracks I heard a couple of years earlier which at that time made me feel like I was having my head bashed in by Mike Tyson..too hard!

Then a friend told me he was being really excited about this certain album by a Human Blue and he said I should check it out.. so there I went.. not knowing any stores selling psy music, not having heard about any psy'ish party/event in my area whatsoever, not having any psy-minded shows on the radio (holland's not always that great!).. so I checked it in a less legal way (sorry Dag!).

Can't say I'm proud of it though. Wish it were different.

Still ain't easy getting hold of good psytrance/ambient cds down here (no creditcard etc.. the usual blahblah).

However just having managed to find one or two dutch online stores that actually have some of this kind of music in stock..

So, after a long period of listening samples on psyshop.com and suchlike, I managed to spend that very small amount of money I have on ordering the new Androcell among others of which I'm excitingly awaiting its arrival.

Well.. got that off my chest :rolleyes:

Now what I really intended to post here: I can't imagine how people would be able to be excited about music when they download it illegally. Nothing beats owning an original copy!

  2. Banco de Gaia - Last Train to Lhasa

Saw someone mention Banco de Gaia somewhere on a messageboard, which made me visit Banco's website and while browsing his site I noticed there were samples of a few tracks up for dl on his site (well samples.. the mp3 is nearly 11 minutes long).

Reminded me I need to buy Banco de Gaia's old albums, haven't got any of the brilliant man's albums yet. May shame come upon me for the next 2.5 minutes :(

Anyhow lovely music it is, I find this rather inspiring.

Off to Banco de Gaia - 'Sinhala' now!

  3. Thanks for providing the samples

I think I do like this, especially sleepwalker. Chester sounds nice too but I don't like them vocal thingies, however musically I like it, makes me wanna hear a full length album...

Voted for "I feel.. like you know pandimensional omnipotent traveller.. you know"

I've no idea what it means, but it sounds fun

    cheers

  4. hope everyone will find some things to like in this compilation!!

Definitely! Great concept and cool tracks!

And to find some legendary names like Dick Trevor, George Barker and James Monro on a new album.. superb B)

  5. Anyone have any idea if this is Dag Wallin remixing this tune? I just saw it on beatport:

...can't find info anywhere. How about you nerds?

    Yeah it's Dag Wallin,

I've heard it I've bought a legal mp3 copy of it. I think it's quite an alright mix, quite melodic, odd but good.

I was rather surprised to see a Human Blue remix of a mainstream trance track, as I don't regard Alex MORPH's productions as anything special at all, however I've also been hearing about Dag supposedly signing to John 00 Fleming's JOOF label for a release or something, but I've no idea if this is true? What's Mr Wallin up to :)

Here's what mr Wallin's website says about it:

    "Monday May 02, 2005

Human blue joins Alex m.o.r.p.h 12"

On Alex´s mixcompilation TranceNation vol.20 (got released in Jan2005) there was an intro mix of alex new masterpiece. Now the first mixes are finished

Fenolgy release 010 will cary the name ´´ NEW HARVEST ´´ and it represents te new m.o.r.p.h. sound. Labelowner woody van eyden says : the best morph ever, i am really really happy´´. The first vinyl will have the original version and a superb ´´human blue´´ remix. Release in June 2005."

    ;)

  6. It´s basically 9 remixes of the same track. Slow dance/ambient stuff. I think it´s great, but I like Rushes better.

Btw, here is an interview with Youth and Paul McCartney if you are interested.

I just happened to stumble upon your post while browsing Psynews, thanks for posting the link to the interview!

I know a little bit about mr Youth but I had no idea he had been working with Paul McCartney

    Very interesting! :D

    Cheers

Nice little batch of Fax stuff mate!

Just out of interest: did you get the newest Namlook & Move D - Let the circle not be Broken, or maybe someone else? :) I just ordered it myself but I haven't been able to find much reviews nor sound samples so I have no idea if it's any good (well can't imagine it wouldnt be good lol ) as it'll be my first Namlook & Moufang cd. But since I love the Namlook & Gaudi cd, I just had to get this one too!

  8. I suppose the tracks that Avi and Guy Zukrel made under the "Human Evolution" name are pretty cheesy considering the fact that they have been huge names in the psy/goa trance scene for many years, as well as the label those tracks were released on (cheese event organiser ID&T's recordlabel here in Holland). However, a couple of years back when I still listened to dj sets by mainstream DJs such as Armin van Buuren to name one, I was rather positively surprised to finally hear a trance record that actually sounds GOOD, production-wise and soundquality-wise, instead of the usual cr*p of the last couple of years.

I'd rather see Avi and Guy produce some great psy records though B)

  9. I've taken the liberty to upload an old psy-trance mix by danish dj Jens M called Hail the Fluffies as part of our "celebration". The mix mainly consists of tunes from 1997-1998 (see tracklist below). It's a great mix of some excellent tunes from that time. The mix used to be available at his website, but it is no more, so now I've made it temporarily available at yousendit:

    Thanks very much

Don't know the dj, curious to hear the mix

  10. nice thread Mars, i like reading all of these stories

I envy all of you lucky nutters who were enjoying the goa trance scene back in the mid nineties.

I was about 11y old back in '96 and didn't listen to any music at all.

My first experience with a little bit of "goa trance" music off some cheap'o compilations was in 2001 but all I could think was "those acid lines are killing my braincells".

Took me 3 more years until I was finally ready for it apparently! It was a buddy of mine who told me to listen to the newest Human Blue album (which was very nice indeed).

It was about time to get away from the 'regular' trance scene, which was starting to get filled up with more crap than a public toilet during the 17th century plagues.

Though thanks to the internet it took me just a couple of months to discover pretty much everything about labels, artists and forthcoming albums.

Plenty of good music around for me in all kinds of genres, but it would have been nice to discover it all back then in the clubs and on the radio, instead of having all info around you on the internet... but you can't turn back time, can you B)

    Looking forward to other people's life-stories :P
