  1. Your track gives me a spinning feelin, like a merry go round or something you know like the world is spinning, maby you could try some panning automation to emphasis that feeling?
  2. Thats the spirit! Every trance track needs a 303. I cant understand why some people don't use it, it's as essential as drums and basses! Well not really but it always works. That reminds me, i should try and put some 303 action in the track im currently working on.
  3. I agree with Digital Psyense, you should loose that square sound. Well maby the sound could be used but i don't like the melody. Otherwise i think it has potential.
  4. Nice, i will download and try them. Thanks.
  5. I think i will. I feel like it has more potential then what's shown in the track. I will give it a makeover after i have finnished some other tracks im working on. Thanks for your comments!
  6. @McCoy: Thanks your comments where useful and you will definetly hear more from me. I will upload some more tracks to this thread in a while. @ foksu & Bahamut: I don't feel like im really finnished with Mantis Mentis yet. Im thinking of making 2 new mixes of it. Maby dividing it into two songs, Mantis Mentis part 1 & 2, based arround the same theme. Part 1 would be more in the style of the first part of the track and not bursting out into alot of mellodies and part 2 could be a more mellodic track. Thanks evrerybody for your comments! Reading your replys and getting some feedback on my work really inspires me to keep making this stuff. I mostly make industrial music and play in a ebm/industrial (or whatever its called nowdays) band, that's what alot of my friend's listen to so we always get alot of feedback and constructive critisism on the industrial stuff we make. But they don't listen to trance/techno so i hardly get any useful comment's about this stuff. So i apreciate your feedback wery much, thanks!
  7. Did you really need a P3 to run Impulse Tracker? If i remember correctly i didn't have more than a 486 and IT worked fine.
  8. I like rebirth for tb303 sounds. And if you don't like the internal effect's i advice you to route your soundcard to an analogue distortion pedal. I don't think most people will hear any difference from an original distorted tb.
  9. Im listening to Genetisis right now. Sound's good, i will listen to the rest of your tracks later.
  10. Thank you very much for listening to my stuff
  11. Im listening to still dreaming now, it's very beutiful and relaxing. I like it!
  12. Here's my new page: >>Tripmotor<< These quoted links are not working atm.
  13. I don't think that is possible on the nord lead. But you can sync the lfos to the tempo, maby that can give you a similar effect to what youre after?
  14. Hmm, it's hard to explain melodies. Im not sure if the above examples can be of help to anyone. It's probably better not to think about any theory or rules when making melodies, after a while they will come naturally. You will hear when it sound's good. One trick though is to try to use alot of differnet durations and velocities for the notes. That's an easy way to make your melodies sound more interresting. >Variations< As you can hear in the second half of this example this melody becomes more interresting with different durations on the notes.
  15. Good morning. Ok, melodies it is: Here is the fail safe way to make melodies: Pick a chord, for this example i start out with a Cm, use the notes of that chord to make a melody. The melody strives towards the base note of the scale, in this case it's C. This is where the melody should usually end (or start since it's a loop). Add more melodies still using only the notes that are in the chord, you can do this untill you have hundreds of melodies playing at the same time it wil never sound wrong, probably boring but not wrong. If you feel adventurous and want to try out a chord change just pick another chord and do the same thing. Try to make a melody with a few of your favourite chords. >Melodies< (Sorry about the wierd hickup, im still a newbie when it comes to softsynths.) Ok, that doesn't sound very exighting. I would suggest we use a scale instead of just a chord. A wild guess tells me that the C minor scale might work over Cm. Use the notes of the chord as a base but put some other notes from the scale in this time. In the example here i moved a few of the notes upwards to the next scale note as the melody progresses, this trick is commonly used in all kinds of music. Use this trick everytime you want to make an instant dancefloor killar-anthem with killaarghh build-up (in the buildup you can keep moving a few notes up the scale for as long as you want, just remember that you should try to avoid use of the base note during your build up since this will release the tension your trying to build up) Then there is a chord change (remember to move the chord notes to fit the new chord). >More melodies< You can fit alot more melodies together but try to avoid playing notes that are only a half-step apart at the same time since that will usually not sound good. If you want to make a hypnotic melody you should try to make a melody that doesn't seem to have a start or end. ...Where does it start, Where does it end, Nobody knows... I have stuff to do.
  16. Ok, heres another one. If you have problems with clipping in the low frequencies you can use a variation of the tecnique above. You can cut holes in the low bass track to make room for the kick. Here is a problematic bass and kick: >Problem< Listen as i make alot of room for the kick by cuting away low frequencies of the bassline: >Problem Solved< You should offcorce use the original bassline when the kick isn't kicking. The begining of the example above is just demonstrating what has been done to the bassline.
  17. I was thinking we could use this topic to learn from eachother. This could be a way to become better producers and hopefully give some inspiration and ideas. I'll start with a trick that i often find useful, this might seem obvious to some but it might be news to someone. Let's say i've created a nice bass that sound's great in unison with a wide stero effect but it doesn't sound so good in mono, or maby i want to have a part of a song with only the bass and think it sound's pretty boring in mono. Well as you might know you shouldn't use alot of stereo effects an reverbs on bass since itt will most probably do more harm then good on the lower frequencies. What i usually do in this situation is that i equalize out all the low frequencies of the bass, and use my stereo effects only on the higher frequencies. Then i make one mono track with only the low frequencies (this sound can even be made on another synth then the high frequencie bass if you want) and mix the two together. Here is an example: >Low Bass< >High Bass in stereo with some reverb< >Together< The same works for drums: >Low Kick< >High Kick< >Together< Kick and bass together: >Kick + Bass< I have to leave now but i will post more stuff when i get back.
  18. Im not talking about perfect mixing in that sense. I mean perfect mixing as in overlapping frequencies = end of the world, every sound must be heard clearly. That kind of stuff (obviously). I have found that making different styles of music is a good way to learn a lot about production. You will learn alot this way. I make psytrance more as a sideproject to the industrial band im in and i believe that i encounter alot more situations that i can learn from then if i had been making only industrial or only psytrance. I have also recorded and mixed some rock music, i have made a few disco songs with some friends, one country song, and we even made a waltz. I have learned alot from all of this and it has been alot of fun. So my advise would be that you should grab every chance to try and be in contact with different styles of music. If you have a friend that plays a guitar and maby someone that plays bass, just get them drunk and start recording. Maby it will even sound good! Another good way to learn is to ask on forums like this one. Maby we should start a topic with tips and methods for making nice sounds and mixes to help eachother and all the new producers out.
  19. It's not a competition unless you try to sound exactly like someone else. Thankfully people have different tastes and some people are going to like your style better then others. And the soundquality doesn't have to be crystal clear like some of todays productions. I and alot of others prefer that productions have soul and character instead of a sterile, perfectly mixed sound. There is a reason why alot of people prefer roughly mixed rock music over all that white jazz that seems to be popular only amongst producers and audiophiles. It's not about the most fancy productions, it's about the music.
  20. I like it a little bit slower i think, 136-140 or something like that. But it depends on wich style im making.
  21. I also dusted of an old classic...
  22. I've tried it, it doesn't do much. I wouldn't call it a synth but rather a pack of sample cd's with alot of atmospheric samples. I don't think it sounds that great on it's own but i would use it for adding layers to the pads i make on other synths and making really thick interesting pads. But my YamahaTG77 sounds pretty similar to atmosphere and can be controlled with much more precision.
  23. true, but chi ad's music sounds more close to nature then alot of other oldschool stuff to me. I should try to make a few tracks with that kind of emotional outdoors feeling since i like it so much.
