  1. One of the things I love about (psy)trance is that it helps me focus. I listen to it while I work and I am more productive. I listen to it while I read and stay on track with story much better. Never has a genre of music made such an impact on my life as a whole.
  2. I have some really good Bose noise reduction over-ear headphones and I've been listening to music almost exclusively with them since I got them. However, I have recently unpacked my Sony 5.2 system and I will be blasting out the music as soon as I get the house to myself. I do like to be fully immersed in the music so it either has to be in my ear (preferably with noise reduction) or up loud.
  3. You've got Hallucinogen and Prometheus on your list, so maybe you should check out their joint project Younger Brother. Their first album Flock of Bleeps is fantastic.
  4. Yeah I have and I didn't like it that much either but at least it's what I'd call psytrance, unlike what I saw live recently. The crowd weren't dancing they were moshing. I didn't mean to start anything though... sorry. I was just adding my 2c about the direction I was taken when I started listening to psytrance. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't feel comfortable with psytrance projects that have "lead singers". By contrast I saw Simon Posford (unfortunately only) once (so far) and it was fantastic. He just did his thing and we did ours. We were totally twisted.
  5. Funny, this is exactly how I got into psytrance. Shpongle > IM (who I really didn't like - I saw them live and thought the "singer" was a wanker) > Hallucinogen (In Dub) > Younger Brother... then it was Ott because he worked on Hallucinogen - In Dub. Then I found Prometheus and Entheogenic. After that I got a massive 10GB torrent of psytrance and slowly went through it, picking out the stuff I liked. I've never found anything that was quite like Shpongle. I don't know if I will. Simon Posford is obviously a key element here. Look out for anything he touches. Good luck
  6. I was really looking forward to it and I was disappointed. I will have to try a few more times to get used to it. I felt the same with Last Days of Gravity. But with that there were at least some very good tracks. It took me a while to get used to others and then there are some which I still don't like. Maybe the Twisted crew are getting old. Or maybe they're focusing too much on looking for a new sound when they should be just focusing on making music that sounds good.
  7. I find Shpongle to be pretty incredible on LSD! I was introduced to psytrance through Shpongle and I have had trouble finding much that is on par. My favorite tracks (both on and off additives) are probably "Nothing Lasts", "...But Nothing Lost" and "Molecular Superstructure" all of which are from the album "Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Lost". I also had a great DMT experience while listening to Scanner from Younger Brother's Flock of Bleeps (so more Posford). During the track there appeared in my vision the face of a clown. It stuck out its tongue which curled up into a tight spiral cage inside which was a clown playing on the ribs of the spiral like they were the bars of a xylophone. Fun. Blumenkraft by Ott (more Posford involvement) is an album I find works very well as a whole. My experience with this is more with DMT than LSD but I imagine there isn't too much of a difference. I find the flute work of Raja Ram to really be quite magical in general but more so under the influence. What I find really exhilirating is the connection I feel to the producer of the music when I'm under the influence. I (feel I) fully comprehend the intent behind the music. The impact of that has a profound effect on me. I'm not that good with genrefication... can you give me what you would consider the perfect example of "Progressive" psy?
  8. I saw them in Perth, Australia a couple of months back and would have felt very gypped if it hadn't been for some good X and a cool DJ called Outrage who came on after and gave us some good D&B. I spent most of the IM set outside because I didn't want to be moshing with metal heads. But when Outrage came on the metalheads left and we got to do some serious dancin'.
