(Though I'm not really denying that ...) Anoebis' is the first genuine follow up review - all the rest couldn't possible be for this album !! bomble

  5. I think I am quite well suited to answer this question - I stayed for 4 months in Goa in a region devoid of parties, teaching in a high school during the week and partying over the weekends and New Year. I lived with a Goan family in their home, ate with them and basically lived their lifestyle. Since then, I have married a Canadian who's parents are from Goa and spend a lot of time talking with them about their homeland. So ... what's the opinion ... the answer is mixed ! Very few actively participate in the parties except in cashing in by providing food, places to stay etc, though there are a few Goan people, and a lot from Bombay who are into the party music. Most tolerate the goings on provided they don't cause problems (and usually they don't) but there are some who find it offensive that their beautiful land is overrun with freaks. The more objective ones prefer the party travellers as they stay in the local communities with minimal environmental impact and the money they bring goes straight to the people of the goan community. The real problem in Goa is the package tourism and the elite hotels - the purple meanies who consume water at such a rate that whole villages lose their supply at various times of day. They employ people from elsewhere in India (though of course some are Goan) and most of the money flows out of India to the multinational hoteliers. The trucks used to carry building materials have torn up the already bad roads, and the waste that comes from the hotels is not disposed of properly. There is very little in the way of environmental planning in Goa - and what there is can be easily avoided with a little baksheesh. In addition, the government limited the licensing of beach hut restaurants in order to prevent the locals from making money off the package tourists who then have to eat/drink only what they pay for in the hotels. Actually this is an area which is going to be in massive difficulty if it isn't more careful - soon the tourists won't find pristine beaches anymore and they'll go somewhere else. This is an issue which concerns the locals more than us party-heads who really only occupy a few km of beach near Anjuna. bomble

    BPM Lists?

Yeah - what on Earth is wrong with having bpm's available - I don't really dj, but I can't see any harm in having access to that kind of info before beginning a set. You'd want the length of the track too, and perhaps the time of the first and last beat if you're working from cd. I have been to a home party where the guy dj-ing used only two portable cd players and a mixer to play - no pitch change and no fancy kit. He just dropped tunes over at the appropriate moment when the beats were not present - and kept tempo consistent ... by knowing bpms in advance. And it sounded great !!!! bomble
  7. Oh - and Under Mount Kailash is by Process on the same album.
  8. There's a track called High on Mount Kailash by Doof on the Mystery of the Yeti part 2 .....??? bomble
  9. Kumba Mela Experiment - East Of The River Ganges Artist: Kumba Mela Experiment Title: East Of The River Ganges Label: Liquid Sound Design Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 12'35" East Of The River Ganges (Mango In My Flute Mix) 02. 10'15" Elephant Trax (Hammer To The Nail Dub) 03. 10'58" Cleaning Fluid (Druids, Dreads And Sadhus Mix) 04. 03'53" Spiritual Journey (Mothers Milk Edit) 05. 07'54" The Kumba Mela (Himalayan Dub) 06. 05'20" Life After Death (Glass Key Dub) 07. 04'22" That Which I Could Only Sense (Phoenix Dub) 08. 07'04" Interstellar Hiss (Sky Is On Fire Dub) 09. 04'04" Be Conscious (Om Namai And Shiveye Mix) 10. 00'29" Outro (Don't WantTo Loose Your Love Dub Edit) Review: It's been a really good year for those of us who like quality chill - we've had the new Shpongle, Ooze, Mana Medicine, Nada Masala 2, Makyo's Yakshini and all sorts of other gems. This latest L.S.D release is no exception. In fact I think it is in contention for the top spot. Admittedly, Tales of the Inexpressible is music in another dimension, but for those who don't share the popular favourite then this might be what you've been waiting for. I personally love Shpongle's sound, so this is where comparisons stop and I'll get on with the review. This is a hugely creative album. There are a lot of people involved, but Youth is the common thread to all tracks. He's brought along friends from the Orb, Tangerine Dream, Suns of Arqa, Dreadzone and others. Lots of live instruments throughout plus a couple of appropriate vocals. This album keeps an experimental edge without disappearing into the land of the totally obscure. Uri Geller even makes an appearance. The album was conceived during the Kumba Mela - the worlds largest religious gathering which took place in India ... on the Ganges of course. Apparently internet connection was made, as well as a psychic one from Uri in order to experience the festival from afar. Essentially this sounds as if it was one of the craziest jam sessions one could imagine ... and after six months of tweaking in the Butterfly Studios this is the result. Every moment of this production is intricate and beautifully produced - there's never a 'filler moment' let alone a filler track. I caution anyone who doesn't like 1) Indian influenced music 2) Roots/dub 3) Trippy trippy samples ... that you won't like this either ! However if you like to take the journey - you like the dub trees/celtic cross albums or you just want to try something new then this is the one to get. I don't want to go into too much detail about the tracks - this review will get ridiculously long - but I really want to get across the splendour of this release as a whole. Briefly, track by track : 1) deep, mystical, eastern influenced, 2) funky, energetic & building, 3) dub & roots, blissed & tasting of Orb,4) check the Henry of Rawlinson sample probably the most amusing tune I've ever heard! 5) deep dub, full power dub trees style... oooooh!, 6) bit darker & slightly spooky - breaks & electro beats ..., 7) Indian & dub ...warm & psychedelic at the same time... total bliss !,8) crazy sample, big tough beats & trippy high frequency bits, 9) dub & roots style - sit back and sway ...,10) goodbye from Terence. I really love this album, and it's revealing more to me on each return. So many influences, so many artistic talents and yet one consistent vision. And not bent spoon in sight ! 9/10
  10. Perhaps it was Playa Del Carmen ? make sure you see Chichen Itza .... very very mystical place even with a crowd of tourists .... bomble

  12. Logic Bomb played in Toronto ??? Where ? how was it? bomble
  13. It's one of the things I like the most about chillout music - it doesn't have so many constraints. It doesn't have to get people dancing, have a continuous tempo or whatever ... and I think this invites freedom for the dj too. If it was me, I would consider a 40min track if I was playing for a long time (3 hours plus, say) because it could be part of your set's journey .... but if I had limited time I would prefer to keep things evolving with different tunes in different styles. Incidentally, what is the tune ? bomble
  14. Chaosunlimited.co.uk (most frequent source) Recordstore.co.uk (less than I used to) Amazon.co.uk (if they have a particularly good price) direct from the label (if it's possible ... then the label benefits the most) Nomads (Cambridge - where I live ... great selection but very pricey) Sisterray, Ambient Soho, Choci's chewns, Access All Areas (London - rarely) Metropolis (Toronto - when I'm in Canada) HMV, Virgin, Andy's & other highstreet recordstores when something catches my eye or they have a sale on ! bomble (uk obviously)
  15. Stella's certainly a well known entity in the British party scene ... and is part of Organic. She turns great full on sets and I don't know whether there's any connection to Turbo Trance or not. bomble
  16. Alright Bugbread - I was slowly scrolling down looking for Ubar Tmar and there he is ! I am in England and am still blown away by the True album ... is there more like that out there ? bomble
  17. Gazing lovingly into the eyes of my wonderul wife in Bologna, Italy. bomble
  18. One of the things I respect the most about the late great George was that asides from writing some of the Beatles most poignant music, he also stuck with the Indian culture and spiritualism that he embraced so long ago. It's all to easy to do something 'cool' and then leave it behind when the rest of the world move on to another thing - but he remained commited. I think he had a modesty and integrity lacking in a lot of famous people. bomble
  19. The sound of a train moving on tracks can be hypnotic - as can all sorts of repetitive noises ... I don't think that hypnotic is a particular complement unless it is combined with other adjectives ! I like Toi Doi, but not in long doses ... I would second Pleiadians as on a similar style (particularly IFO) Also think Slide's 'unstable' has a similarly frantic feel bomble
  20. Youth has to be one of the ultimate producers in the scene. Not only did he act as mentor to the aforementioned Simon Posford, he also won a Brit award for producing the Verve album, gained international acclaim for producing the Orb's 'Little Fluffy Clouds' and has just turned out one of the finest productions I have heard in ages in the form of 'East of the River Ganges' (I have already sent a review to Children). Another excellent producer is of course Raja - again loads of musical history and some sweet things to his name. And one of my pet favourites, Greg Hunter ... also involved with the Orb in the early days, produced his own superb albums (Subsurfing - 'frozen ants', Alien Soap Opera 'second wave', Lotus Blossoms) and has been on the production of Dub Trees (with Youth) Juno Reactor and lots of other stuff. bomble
  21. Mauritius ... no likelihood of a psy experience, but a perfect Honeymoon destination ... bomble

  23. http://Brahmafluorescentart.com/ and lots of the albums and artists featured in my yahoo club : www.clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/dancetranceandmagicplants
  24. There's been a bit of a mix up with the scheduling and the archiving ! My show is called Global Chillage (and is billed for Friday 4pm - which is actually the Planet of sound show). Also I am told that the speaker icon for my show might not line up with the saturday 4pm slot !! Anyway it should be the Sat 16hrs show ! As I said before, I am willing to trade copies of the show for other people's mixes or selections. bomble
  25. Review of "East of the river Ganges" (new L.S.D chillout) coming up .... Could do Bagabanooshka, Angel Tears II etc too ....? could also do 13 xtal skulls, but maybe I'll leave that to Järsimähäiriö 'cause he's already started .... bomble
