  1. if astral is your friends cup of tea, then throw in some other related artists to broaden their scope. I don't know - maybe some Xerox, California Sunshine, MFG etc. etc. I can't beat match (I don't have anything of variable speed) so all my mixes are either panned through in the beatless parts or dropped in at appropriate moments. bomble

    kundalini

Alright there FL I phoned to see if there were tickets and it was (obviously) a sell out, so I didn't fancy the trek only to be stuck outside. I would prefer all promotors to do away with the guest list idea really. It makes for a two tier party experience which I don't think was ever the intention of the psychedelic scene. Of course, if promoters would like their friends and colleagues to come along... they could give them tickets! Full credit to Kundalini & others for sticking at it over the years though. I can't say I'm surprised that the crowd is changing - the musical style over the last couple of years has drawn much closer to classic techno and acid trance. As you say, that shouldn't matter in the least provided they are open and warm to the party atmosphere. I have taken friends who don't even listen to electronic music to parties before and they loved the whole otherworldly experience. Again, there shouldn't be a two tier of the psy-heads and others either. We're all speaking dialects of the same language... bomble
  3. I am sure that Hallucinogen played in Vancouver in August 1999 ? all I can say is ... if there's nothing happening.... it's your turn to start the fire. Much easier to get a regular up-for-it crowd if you're the only person putting on psy nights. Plus with summer on the way I am sure you Canucks can make use of some of the most beautiful and unspoilt wilderness for a proper tribal gathering. I'd come. bomble
  4. We... looks like I shall be creating my own happiness then !! bomble
  5. I phoned and it was sold out so I didn't make the pilgrimage.... bomble
  6. I love that track too ... I think it has similar elements to some of Shakta's Silicon Trip album or maybe some older mumbo jumbo tunes. bomble
  7. looks like it has an epic feel - lots of big sounds. I think it would create a journey, but some tracks (Hux flux for example) seem a little unusually placed. I'd have to hear it played to get a verdict! bomble

    Tristan

Tristan is an excellent producer and well worth checking out if you haven't already. Slightly like Process perhaps ? bomble
  10. Wouter - I really like your selection. I have been trying to raise the profile of Subsurfing (and Greg Hunter in general) for a while. I also have Alien Soap Opera and Lotus Blossoms from him. He's made another subsurfing album but can't find a suitable deal to release it yet. I am getting impatient and I might have to get on his case! Also love Solarquest - you can get orgship with another equally good disc sold as Orgisms (I reviewed it in the chillout section). Also, the Emit stuff is rare - I have a Woob album, Beat Explorations and Qubism. Very very interesting label that seems to have had not nearly enough exposure. I am surprised nobody mentioned all the fabulous Dakini stuff yet (asides from Ishq) Makyo - yakshini, vismaya, shringara etc. Padmasana Sky Dancing compils : nada masala 1 and 2 Or for that matter Interchill stuff Ekko - ekcentricity / ekkocentric Infinessence Interior Horizons Floatation Liquid sound design has been mentioned, but Mana Medicine on their label seems to have been overlooked - another blissful gem If you have decided on the list above (and I haven't heard Shulman or Waterjuice yet) then I would go for Kumba Mela followed by Ooze and Dub Trees on level pegging. Asura is nice if you like the classic french style of chillout - very synthy and rich (like old Total Eclipse) Let me know if you want more recommendations or opinions, bomble

    Loza

I know I am biased, but you owe it to your ears to chill out to the Loza track. It is possible that Laurence might put together a self-released album (kind of like OOOD - Breathing Space was) where he sells direct. My question .... would you want to buy it and for how much (assuming the chillout track uploaded is representative of his style and quality and with my assurance that he can make equally good dancefloor fodder) ? http://206.167.78.76/psynews/contest02/Loz...za_-_Bubble.mp3 bomble
  12. Yeah - much as I would love to take credit for the Loza track, it's actually by a friend of mine who is too lazy to post these things for himself ! (actually his modem is dead ...) There is a little bit of creative input from me in that I have helped him with samples and given opinions as the tune got refined... but there's many more like it in the Loza music factory, so if you want to hear them get in touch with me... bomble

ntl is very common as you can see... bomble
  14. Nice work Ouroboros, I understand what etherdesign is saying about the UV logo 'meshing'. I think it is because the first N of underground is lighter than the shade of the UV logo, while it matches the tone in the word vibrations. It looks a little like the word nderground is raised over the logo. Shouldn't be too hard to fix though... bomble
  15. Of their recent stuff the Hidden Step is absolutely fantastic - Tight Spin gets me shivering every time. If you're going back a little, then indeed Erpland is very good as is Strangeitude and Arborescence. If you like the more rock styled stuff then you might prefer Curious Corn, though it's not my favourites. I think there are some mp3s at www.ozrics.com bomble
  16. It's on more than one cd that I have. I first heard it on the chaosunlimited cd that came on the front of Wax magasine - and I've got it on another compilation but I can't remember which. It is a very deep and tribal track ... turned me onto Jaia in the first place. bomble

  19. I think there are quite a lot of people entering the scene - they just have trouble releasing stuff in Britain as most of the labels are long standing, well established and somewhat on the cliquey side. I have a couple of friends who are producing wild stuff and just trying to find the labels who will release it. bomble
  20. I don't really know what you mean - as far as I can see most of the artists in Britain who made psy in the past are still at it, and new ones just keep joining in. I think the scando-thing is mainly a result of the expanding scando scene - the British scene hasn't vanished it's just that another is more prolific. bomble
  21. forgot to answer you Matt .... I think that Loop bites dog is the most energetic of the Loop Guru stuff I have - but there's one which is basically one long pure ambient/chillout tune which is just right for a certain mood. It's called 'the third chamber' - let me know if you have any trouble finding it. bomble
  22. Automath - I think that this is not Children's point. This site is not saying that just because it is focussing on one flavour of music that it excludes the others. The point is that if we broaden the boundaries of what gets included and what doesn't, then we run the risk of becoming non-specialist. There are plenty of places that you can find reviews of other genres of music, but to my knowledge this is the most extensive site for psy reviews. I listen to all sorts of other music, which I like and would happily recommend to people in the off-topic section - but not in the reviews. Equally, I have picked up recommendations about other types of music from people here - but I still think the reviews should keep a certain level of selectivity. bomble
  23. good question - though I doubt you'll find it in those shops because as far as I know Tsuyoshi left psy behind .... bomble
  24. I'd be happy to review some for the chillout section - I have most of his albums. The reason that I didn't is because to me Banco de Gaia and groups like Loop Guru, FSOL, The Orb etc. etc. are great chillout music but there are so many of them and they aren't usually released on psy-oriented labels. bomble
