A fun album with a nice concept, I really like the album artwork :) Although I would definitely not have a problem defining its style. It's on the border of darker melodic psy but also has some slight humour and also some melancholy. Stylewise it harkens back to some of Infected Mushrooms albums, B.P Empire perhaps and some small inspirations from The Gathering, Classical Mushroom  and Converting Vegetarians. It has a funky element too, and I'm sure it has inspirations from other contemporary styles/artists as well that I don't know about. But it's certainly Psytrance through and through. A very distinct Talpa-spin on it.:) Perhaps the humouristic touches are influenced by that aspect of Suomisaundi?

it's neither progressive nor fullon nor darkpsy nor goa. and imho it's too weird and non-psy-like in sound choices to be compared to the classic psytrance of the early 00s (such as psysex, hux flux, ...)

Listening through the 3 Dimension 5 albums on Suntrip + Ra - To Sirius and Ra - 9th. They just fit together so well if one starts with the D5 stuff and then jumps to To Sirius and finish with 9th. Anybody know why Dimension 5 haven't made any new Goa? They play live occassionally it seems?

what i remember is that they have been working on a new album, but they did use fullon knb which wasn't accepted by suntrip (and tbh from the sample i heard it didn't really fit that well to the rest of the music which sounded like a straight continuation from their old stuff). but this was a good number of years ago now. i still have hope that we'll see a new d5 album before the astral album ;)

Okay, we defnitely need to talk the guy into dropping what actually makes his music great and unique ;)

definitely. never let taste and creativity stand in the way of success. becoming the next vini vici clone is the way forward  ;)

  4. really nice tracks there! flipping out could potentially be a little too melodic/morning for what's popular today (which i agree is a shame), but for flipping dose i'd be hugely surprised if you couldn't release it on a good label.

i have no idea how to approach a label (still working on getting (enough) tracks up to release-worthy level), but please keep us updated here on your progress.

If you will delete the Psynews stuff from your dropbox after the track is ready...will you get your space back or is it lost/you have to pay again?

I would suggest to work with low quality fragments like mp3 for the moment until we have a "prototype image" of the track. i think we can send them through discord to each other or the person who wants to build the track (Recussion Loop...). in discord you can send 10 MB or so

i didn't pay, it's what i got for free. sure, i'll get my space back, but the point is 3gb isn't a lot. the folders for my tracks are usually around 12gb. while i could surely delete some files in there i think we would amass a lot more files that aren't used because it's such a big collaboration. also i don't think mp3 is a good solution for now. you sometimes want to process audio when working on a track and you'd have to do it all again with the full quality files once it's finished.

so yeah, i could make a public folder and share the links with pm to get us started if you guys want, but i suspect we'll run out of space soon.

Oh dat sux then. Suxoscope lol :D Too bad because it had a really nice and clear interface.

i really hope they update it soon. it's by far the best oscilloscope at that sort of price point ;)

has some one an idea how we can share files?

not really. i do have 3gb free on my dropbox but with audio we'd probably quickly fill that up.

  7. ah, sorry, i missed that. but according to the wko link you can reduce it to 10000€ if you like and only have to deposit 5000€ in the first 10 years.

still the "liebhaberei" thing is probably the best option anyway. if you don't make a nice profit in a few years they'll reclassify it as such anyway.

I will post my goa thingy as soon as I've applied the phase align tutorials on it, atm I can't get exoscope to work. Any other comparably good oscilloscope available out there you guys could recommend? I've gotten exoscope to work before, so I'm not sure what's up. Could probably be due they having updated it to work with the latest mac OS which I'm skipping. Gonna see if I can find an older version of exoscope.

smexoscope has a few issues with logic 10.5. in 10.4 i had it on the master all the time. now i only insert it on the channel when i need it for a short time. otherwise the whole project slows down to a crawl.

I've actually never heard anyone say for example that new Techno isn't Techno and whatever.

come on. you cannot seriously think that the boring, sleep-inducing music people call techno nowadays is in the same genre as real techno back in the day. ;)

in all seriousness, most of what is now promoted as techno would have been classified as minimal house in the time around 2000. however there are exceptions to be found in the techno thread in other electronica.

(it needed to be a GmbH in Austria if I don't wanna be liable with my own private money if somebody breaks the vinyl and cuts his neck with it or suffocates with the wrapping plastic - and to found a GmbH I need 35.000 EUR which I ofc don't have)...

your information is outdated. they've reduced the cost significantly a few years ago. founding a gmbh (for a one person company) is in the range of 100€ now. and to my knowledge the "beschränkte haftung" rather applies to who pays for the liabilities when it goes bankrupt (but i could be wrong there).

but even then i don't think it would be worth the effort to found a company if you don't expect to make a significant amount of money with it. on the other hand you could deduce lots of things from tax if you do have some sort of company (doesn't need to be a gmbh). so your new hifi system would be at least 20% cheaper depending on your income.

What kind of track shoul it be? Goa or Fullon? Or in between?

the things posted up to now suggest goa trance. if we do down that route i could contribute some melodies played with oldschool sounding patches, atmospheres or 909 hatlines. if we go the fullon/psytrance route i could contribute something for every purpose (from knb over percussion, melodies and sweeps to semi-modular fx) but wouldn't want to do the arrangement.

so i guess it's time to decide on the style, bpm and key of the track. unless anyone has any objections, i'd suggest 145 and F because 145 is neither particularly fast nor slow fitting almost any style, and F is easy to play and sits right in the sweep spot where the low end sounds best on most systems.

i also think we need something like a shared dropbox folder where everyone can access all midis and audio files plus add their own input.

Here's something I started several years ago and never got anywhere with. I don't know if there's anything worthwhile there but it's the best offering I have right now.

The linked ZIP file has a standard MIDI file, a WAV file of the audio below, a WAV file with one of the tracks that isn't in the MIDI file, and a text file.

    http://www.veracohr.com/Psynews Track (Veracohr Basic).mp3

    http://www.veracohr.com/Psynews Track (Veracohr Basic).zip

links are not working (and if i type it into the browser it automatically starts a search because of the spaces). then if i replace them with %20 and try to downnload it stops loading at 55K.

  13. i wouldn't necessarily play it when in a good mood and motivated to do things either. but on a rainy winter day tracks like that (or dark prog) fit perfectly and give me more energy. i couldn't stand bright happy morning music then. also sometimes i need some contrast to ö3 after work ;)

My level is this right now ... made this track out of building blocks myself ... not really a great thing skill-wise, it was just made by patching together building blocks  - and no mastering:

it's a great skill to have. i have a "track" sitting around with all the building blocks and no idea how to piece them together.

so then we have rtp, mudpeople, recursion loop, veracohr and myself willing to contribute something. is this enough to get the thing started? do we have any ideas about the style yet?

    COUNT IT, FELLAS

    6934

Six thousand, nine hundred and thirty four tracks. IN A MONTH.

    THIS GUY'S A MADMAN

    NHJO THE FUCKING MAN

assuming he doesn't ever sleep and didn't do anything else in that month, that's 10 tracks per hour. so nhjo writes music at the same pace that everyone else listens to music. if that isn't a superpower i don't know what is.

but the sad thing is, there are only 30 of these track on youtube :( . i was really looking forward to a whole month of only listening to nhjo nyennro nonstop.

  16. i had such a thing as a kid. didn't even realise that some of these are still working today ;)

my current "hi-fi system" is monitors hooked up to an audio interface and the computer. there's no need for an amp with active monitors, but still with a cd player you'd be looking at something like 2000€ for my setup

but i think with cheaper speakers like the adam t8v you'd spend something like 500€ for speakers (active, so no amp needed), and get superb sound quality compared to your old system. of course you'd still need a cd player (a quick search only turned up discman clones and usb-drives for the computer, so i'm not sure if they still are a thing now) and an interface.
