  1. I hear you. It's interesting to see people's differing motivations for listening to this stuff. Personally, I got into it because I wanted something electronic and aggressive at the same time, to complement the relatively unaggressive IDM stuff I was listening to at the time. It basically replaced heavy metal for me. The fact that it was trippy and had lots of interesting things like melodies and effects going on (as opposed to standard techno) was a feature I found I enjoyed, but less than the aggression. Since then my bar for aggressive electronic music has been continually raised, and there are only a few artists who satisfy me anymore.

that explains a lot. i was listening to freetekno (mainly between 180 and 200 bpm here; tekno replaced DnB which in turn replaced heavy metal for me ;) ) before i came to psytrance. i was looking for music that's more sophisticated and less agressive. started with darkpsy and progressively moved on to fullon and nowadays i listen mainly to goa trance and prefer progressive psytrance to darkpsy and fullon.

  2. Both. Trippy alone doesn't cut it for me, probably because I'm not big on drugs. I lean towards killarghs, but require some trippiness (a.k.a. synth wizardry).

that's exactly the reason why i prefer trippy sound. it gets me high :)

with dancefloor killaaargh sound i would need drugs to truly appreciate it. no need for that with trippy sound.

    @malevolent

Shakta - Lepton Head (Deedrah Remix) is indeed the perfect example. i'd love to hear that song at a party...

  3. I do not want plain hands-in-the-air-stomp-your-feet-whatsoever dancefloor stuff.

I want something deeper which takes me on a journey, something that can evoke some images in mind.

I think trippy is even better for dancing than the "dancefloor killars" ... you can become one with the music, thats what only trippy Goa can do for me.

    +1

    trippy all the way!

  4. although it's not psy 'solar quest - acid air raid' deserves a place in this thread.

am i the only one that hates overarching buildups, where you are sure that the kick is coming back, but instead of the song starting again you get another buildup and then another. so f***ing frustrating, that makes me want to throw stuff at the dj...

  5. Electric Universe, Protoculture, Psytrain, Fractal Glider, Psysex Cosmosis, Talamasca, Alien Project and Astrix all have some good tracks.

As long as it doesn't get too cheesy i have no problem with fullon. sometimes it's nice to have tracks that all sound alike and are absolutely predictable. I actually find that i prefer fullon to darkpsy nowadays.

some of you listed shift and gappeq as fullon. wtf?

  6. I'm not sure I agree that the melodies are the same..

the (for me anyway) most prominent melody (soundform at 4:20 and solid electronic 2:50) is exactly the same. the sound is a bit different but the melody is the same.
  7. i find that i get tired of GMS/1200Mics tracks very easily. after listening to a track a few times i don't like it anymore. that happens much quicker than with any other artist. i loved juice when i first heard it, but after listening to it about 15 times i could not stand it anymore. their remixes are quite nice and a whole lot better than their own tracks imho.

  8. one is their Phaedra gatefold vinyl ... but I remember it being quite dull, I didn't like it.

i found that i like Phaedra, Alpha Centauri and Rubycon better than the newer stuff, that i find less psychedelic and more commercial. anything after 1975 or from the years 75-80 should be what you're looking for.
