  1. V/A - Goa Classix 1 Artist: Various Title: Goa Classix 1 Label: Nova Tekk Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 06'40" Hallucinogen : Jiggle Of The Sphinx 02. 06'40" Zodiac Youth : False Prophet (Man With No Name Rmx) 03. 07'47" Green Nuns Of The Revolution : Cor 04. 07'43" Oforia : Maximiser 05. 09'18" Astral Projection : Dancing Galaxy 06. 09'26" Chi-ad : Astral Warrior 07. 10'18" Children Of Paradise : El Nino 08. 10'13" Digital Sun : Strange Things 09. 10'06" Planet BEN : Nonsense Review: Let me start by saying, that this compilation and Goa Classix Vol. 2 are available at MIDPRICE . Meaning about £5-7 and I believe that they can be found at that price all over Europe (Or world-wide wherever Nova Tekk is distributed!) As the tracklist above reveals these are real goa classics, and for me this is a good way of getting to know some of the old, classic, but hard-to-get tracks from the past years of psychedelic trance. Stand outs are Hallucinogen [Of course! :-)], Astral Projection [This is STILL one of my fav'e Astral trax from before they sucked!], Green Nuns, Planet B.E.N., . Yeah well, ALL the tracks are classics, and if anyone are having problems finding the originals, I highly recommend this compilation. At a very affordable price! The only thing that sucks about this comp is the artwork. But all in all, this gets a solid 7.5/10 from me! Bom shankar!
  2. Wizzy Noise - Cybermancy Artist: Wizzy Noise Title: Cybermancy Label: Zillion Mental Anarchie Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 07'58" Cybermancy 02. 08'04" Plastic Mold 03. 08'36" Hybrid Model One 04. 07'02" 500 Km 05. 08'38" Oversexed Succubus 06. 08'32" Infernal Pod 07. 10'04" Xpanded 08. 08'28" Devil's Night 09. 06'27" The Crow Review: Finally an album from Greek nutters Micky & Uriel who together are better known as Wizzy Noise. Let me start this review by saying that this is REALLY good. I haven't stopped listening to this since I got it. The album has FULLY adopted the modern Euro-minimalistic style, but as some other acts, this actually doesn't sound boring or repetitive. It works, and the result is a VERY progressive, minimalistic and EXTREMELY psychedelic album. As most minimalistic psy-trance, this sounds best on BIG ASS SOUNDSYSTEMS or in headphones.. And I can't wait 'til hearing these fine tracks at parties. Best tracks: ALL OF 'EM!. Yeah, I can't really name any standouts, as all these tracks work for me. All are sprinkled with well-fitting samples and all in all this is a VERY GOOD debut-album from Wizzy Noise! And if you're into the whole minimalistic Yumade-Spirallianz-Paps-etc thing, then GET THIS! You will NOT be disappointed! Rating 9/10 Bom shankar
  3. Very, very good... Get this if you can find it... I found it at a local record shop for only £8! ... And after listening to it, I would have paid double for it!... Nuff said! 8.8/10 Bom shankar!
  4. Pretty average comp.... The Etnica and Talamasca tracks are amazing... Infected is somewhat .... Not infected! :-( ... But all in all this is fairly good... 7.1/10 Bom shankar!
  5. This is PURE NOSTALGIA and for me, these sounds are STILL among the BEST EVER produced... And when you think about it's was made 5 years ago, it blows your mind... For me this is fantastic, and is up there with Hallucinogen's "Twisted"... Very, very good, classic album. Fave's are: Telepathy, Hyperspaced & Noises From The Darkness ... "Yes, the world at large is fascinated with so called flying saucers. However, they do not fly, they oscilate in between dimensions." Brilliant! A well-deserved 8.9/10 from me! Bom shankar!
  6. Not for the faint-hearted! ... This is some wild and crazy shit, and this has got to be the HARDEST psy-release I've ever heard... This works VERY well on MONSTER soundsystems or really expensive headphones, and though it can get kinda-repetitive, I love this CD... "One Way Ltd." and "Submariniert" are standouts for me! Get this -- or it will get you! 8.1/10
  7. Yeah... This has been getting a lot of playing time in my cd-players in y2k ... This is actually quite simple, but it sure does the trick for me! Stand-outs for me are "The Hunter Becomes The Hunted" and "Telepathic Atmospheres" ... Brilliant album that sticks to the basics of psychedelic trance. 7.3/10 Bom shankar!
  8. I actually bought this EP when I stumbled upon it in a second hand store in London... Dunno why though, this really sux and as mentioned above, the album version is better... Noting special here... 3/10
  9. Doof - It's About Time Artist: Doof Title: It's About Time Label: Twisted Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 08'32" Try 02. 07'46" Dawn Of A New Error 03. 08'41" Last Half Of Forever 04. 06'06" Home Of The Strange 05. 08'06" Sk 2k 06. 09'29" Dark Secrets Of The Manky Fudgepocket 07. 10'14" Nights In Shining Alma 08. 12'06" (There Is Nothing So Dated As) Yesterdays Future Review: The very long awaited album from Nick "Doof" Barber has finally landed .It was about time! ;-) And it was well worth the wait, this is amazing!! This album is divided into two very different parts. Tracks 2, 3 & 4 are all amazing, cool danceable tracks with loads of energy and strong psychedelic influences, while tracks 1, 5, 6, 7 & 8 are best described as. Mystery Of The Yeti Part 3!! Yes, Nick has wisely chosen to stay on the path he so beautifully began to step on in Mystery Of The Yeti Pt. 2 with High On Mount Kailash. Very, very cool dubby, chilled-out ambient tracks at it's very best here! Best tracks are Home Of The Strange for intelligent psy-trance, while Nights In Shining Alma and (There Is Nothing So Dated As) Yesterdays Future delivers some of the best ambient stuff I've heard this year. Only topped by Yeti 2! All in all, a very good album by Doof and a worthy countermove to the minimalistic style that seems to be taking over these days. Nick doesn't give a fuck about that. Bom shankar! 9/10
  10. "As a child, i could walk on the ceiling. I'd butterfly up on the walls-walls-walls!" ... Very very good, classic track from The Delta! 8.8/10 Bom shankar!
  11. X-Dream - Panic In Paradise Artist: X-Dream Title: Panic In Paradise Label: Tunnel Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 07'42" Psychoactivity 02. 10'09" Panic In Paradise 03. 07'18" Protoplasm 04. 07'23" Do You Believe (Sync Mix) 05. 08'11" The Offender 06. 07'55" Rain 07. 08'33" Eleven (PM Mix) 08. 06'36" The Pollinator : Parent Plant 09. 08'22" The Pollinator : Clone III Review: Yeah, I just got this today. X-Dream has always been one of my fav'e psy-acts and their back-catalogue is fantastic, so I've was very excited when I got this today. But as always, the first listen tends to leave you slightly disappointed, and this is no exception.. The first thing that stroke me as odd was the new label Tunnel Records. One of Germany's best know club-trance labels (The Tunnel Trance Force Series, etc.). Hmm!?!. Could be a bad sign!. This is not a new "Radio" but sure has it's cooler moments.. Also there are lots of previously released tracks on this CD... But I guess that's the standard for a psyact that hasn't released a full album since 1998! The first 3 tracks on this CD is kinda. Ehh. Let me just say, that tracks 1+2+3 are the weakest on this CD. Without really being weak!. Ehh?!:. .Do I make sense! ) . Sure the production is nice and it's typically X-dream, but somehow I just don't REALLY dig on the first 3 tracks. Track 4 is better and track 5 - The Offender - is simple a really good, full-on SMASHING track. Really, really good. Tracks 6 + 7 are also good and gives us - once again - the well-known X-dream sound. The there's the "surprise" on this CD. The last two tracks are - quote: X-Dream presents The Pollinator. I believe that the Pollinator is a X-Dream side-project by Marcus!?. And let me start the review of the last two tracks by saying one word: WOOOOOW!!. That shit is good. Almost as good as track 5, but definitely some really good shit.. The style of the two tracks fits in perfectly with the others!!.. As I said in the beginning I've only just got this CD today, so I've only listened to it a couple of times, so perhaps my feelings about this album will be different when I've listened to it some more, but for now I'll give it 8.1/10. Good album in the typical X-dream style, though there has been evolution since "Radio". Cool. Bom shankar!!
  12. Alright... I stand corrected... I fucked-up on the label-issue... I didn't realize that the two first albums was released on Tunnel... I just figured that when "Radio" was from Blue Room so was the older ones... Doh! :0)
  13. I've have this for quite some time without listening to it more than a couple of times... But then I heard the Yumade-track at a party and decided to dust this CD of and give it another listen... And MAN that Yumade-track is good... The rest of the CD is ... Ehh.... Ok, I guess... Nothing that really grips my attention! I'd give this 5/10 Bom shankar!
  14. V/A - Infinity Hz Artist: Various Title: Infinity Hz Label: Matsuri Date: 1996 Track listing: CD 1 01. 07'45" Prana : Pneumatic 02. 07'31" Doof : Born Again 03. 07'32" Perfect Rainbow : Dream On Dreamer 04. 07'01" Tooth Monkey And Tristan : Gobi Desert 05. 08'09" Rhythmystec : Plasmatik 06. 09'04" DJ Cosmix And Etnica : Kumba Mela 07. 07'35" Witchcraft : Magic Frequencies 08. 07'47" Bass Chakra : 230000 Miles (Inspire Mix) CD 2 01. 08'30" Bass Chakra : 230000 Miles (Initiation Mix) 02. 08'35" Athena : Human Vox (Slave Labour Trance Mix) 03. 09'07" Power Source : Goaway 04. 07'27" Transwave : The Rezwalker (Black Thunder Mix) 05. 07'39" Joking Sphinx : Courty Plane 06. 07'32" Endora : Joy 07. 07'57" Rhythmystec : Plutonica 08. 06'26" Manmademan : Elevator 09. 08'35" Prana : Primal Orbit (Tribal Trance Mix) Review: Yeah, I've dug up another one of those classic compilation from the golden age of psytrance. And let me start by saying, that this is a very good compilation, which features some really good tracks and is a nice mixture between UK, Israeli, Japanese and European trance. This CD Digipack is from Japanese-based label Matsuri Productions and is compiled by Tsuyoshi Suzuki a.k.a. Prana. and it comes as no surprise, that he's involved in 4 tracks out of the 5 Japanese featured on this compilation. But let me also say that the tracks he's involved in ALL are very good! CD1 kicks of with a very cool track by Prana. Good use of synths creates an almost-MWNN sound. CD1t2 is perhaps the biggest classic on this cd: Nick Barber And Simon Posford delivers the stunningly beautiful stomper "Born Again" .. "..you need to be booooorn again!". No further introduction needed here. CD1t3 is another Japanese track with a great melody. CD1t4 is a full-on, ol'-fashioned piece of art from Tooth Monkey And Tristan and they've made a very energetic fast track. Notice the cool melody with the ping-pong sounds in the ending! CD1t5 is from UK-based Rhythmystec and I don't really like this track. It's only another fairly good, synth-based track! Most be considered one of the fillers on this compilation. CD1t6 is a slow starting, monotonous boring track that goes absolutely nowhere.. Filler! CD1t7 is a little better than it's predecessor. Features nice samples ".the gift of." and is a traditional piece of Israeli trance, that gets boring though. Another Filler! After 3 disappointing fillers CD1t8 delivers the good stuff again. This is a very cool, full-on track with an amazing kick-drum from Japanese Bass Chakra. Not so much BS just pure quality psy with smashing samples and even didgeridoo sounds at 4.00 . ". Travel across the void - 230000 miles!.". CD2 starts with the same track as CD1 ends with, but it in a different mix. A more relaxed/ambient'y start. Turns out to be extremely psychedelic though, but still in a more relaxed manner than the other mix. CD2t2 is from Athena, better known as Miranda Silvergreen, and is a track from the good old days when she made cool music. Those days are over now. This song is very predictable though and must also be considered as a filler. CD2t3 is the classic track Goaway from Power Source. A very simple, yet efficient track. Cool! CD3t4 is another classic from Transwave, which features experiments with drum-machines. This is a very fast-moving good track! CD2t5 starts with some very strange noises - even for psytrance - and a "relaxed" kick-drum which creates a very mellow vibe. The bad thing about this track, is that it gets annoying in the middle. Gets better towards the end though. Average track. CD2t6 is a really great track from Boris Blenn and DJ Sangeet under their alias Endra. Traditional drums with a twist. The trackname "Joy" is very fitting, 'cause this is a joyful track! CD2t7 is another fav'e here. A very dark - scary even - track here. Much better than Rhythmystec's track on CD1. Very, very good track with well-fitting samples! CD2t8 Also a very fast, pounding track that keeps evolving with long cool build-ups. Cool track! CD2t9 last track on this compilation is also Japanese and features tribal drums and vocoded samples. Turns into a very psychedelic beauty in the nice morning style. A very worthy ending! All in all this is a cool compilation with 6 VERY good tracks, 4 fillers and 7 mediocre tracks.. Also features very, very psychedelic, beautiful artwork! ) But it's worth buying tracks for the good tracks. This would have gotten a solid 9/10 w/o the fillers, but I can't stretch myself to giving this more than 7.5/10 Bom shankar!
  15. V/A - Psychedelic Trance Back Catalogue Sampler Artist: Various Title: Psychedelic Trance Back Catalogue Sampler Label: Distance Date: 1997 Track listing: 01. 09'32" Astral Projection : Kabalah 02. 08'32" Miranda : Green Man 03. 07'18" Deedrah : The Wizard Demo 04. 07'04" Hallucinogen : Gamma Goblins 05. 07'11" The Infinity Project : Hyperspaced 06. 07'27" Transwave : Land Of Freedom 07. 07'37" Man With No Name : Jack In The Box 08. 06'43" Electric Universe : Stardiver 09. 08'06" Transwave : Malaka Dance 10. 09'49" Cypher O : Psychedelia Junglistia Review: Oh yeah. Another one of those old, golden compilations with so much nostalgia associated with it, that it almost hurts! ) I actually recently bought this CD extremely cheap. The Danish equivalent of about £5! Pretty cheap for a CD that is FULL of classics. All the tracks are well-known and to me ALL of these tracks are absolute psychedelic classics! Fav'e tracks are 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 And 10. In a time when minimal psytrance is taking over, it's nice to put this CD in your stereo and let your mind fly back to the golden age of psytrance. Rating 9/10
  16. V/A - Signs Of Life Artist: Various Title: Signs Of Life Label: Blue Room Date: 1997 Track listing: 01. 07'58" Turban Bloc : Five Million Years, They Knew 02. 08'18" Juno Reactor : Magnetic (Robert Leiner Dub Mix) 03. 03'30" Sunkings : Man's Tale 04. 06'16" Alien : Chupacabras 05. 10'40" Spectral : Avalon 06. 05'39" Liquid Z : Frozen Sand 07. 04'06" Galaxy : Open Your Heart 08. 07'35" Turban Bloc : As Above So Below 09. 07'36" Saafi Brothers : The Witness 10. 05'16" The Delta : As A Child I Could Walk On The Ceiling (Dub Mix) Review: This is not your ordinary bunch of psytrance. Far from it. This is a collection of very relaxed, ambient'y, chilled, and at times, jazzy tunes from some of the heavyweights in the genre. I have very mixed feeling about this compilation. I have to "be in the mood" to listen to it, or it does more bad than good. But when you're in the mood, this is some dope shit. Just don't expect to hear dance-floor friendly tracks here. This couldn't be more anti-dance-floor! This is for serious, mind-altering, letting-your-mind-fly-away moment in the comfort of your home surrounded by your loves one. This should really be listened to from track 1 to 10, but in smaller dozes I'd recommend tracks 3, 4, 9 And 10 (I never realised before getting this CD that Delta's track is the perfect ambient track, when you take away the voice samples and turn the pace down a notch! Cool!) Also, some really nice artwork on the cover which features a long explanation of cropcircles in the UK. Overall rating 7.8/10! A very mellow Bom Shankar
  17. Electric Universe - Divine Design Artist: Electric Universe Title: Divine Design Label: Spirit Zone Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 08'51" One Step Beyond 02. 08'31" High Fly 03. 10'13" Who Are You? 04. 05'43" Storm 05. 08'43" The Coming Mission 06. 06'56" Moonchild 07. 08'35" Love Is Not A Crime 08. 07'32" Almendra 09. 08'29" Heart On The Line Review: This is Boris Blenn's fifth release as Electric Universe, and my very first impression of this album is, that he's WAY to busy putting out new albums without thinking about the quality. It's the old saying, quantity Vs quality. With that being my first impression, I also have to give Boris Blenn credit, because this album isn't ALL BAD. There are good tracks, and I especially like the tracks "Moonchild" and "Love Is Not A Crime". The first 2 tracks and the last one does absolutely nothing for me, and the rest are average. Packed with boring voice samples and uses a lot of percussions and electric guitars and the odd "technoish" sound that E.L. seem to have adopted. All stuff that's been seen before.. Only better! So, come again Boris. You can do much better than this. Rating 5.5/10. Bom shankar!
  18. Rrreppep!!(How the hell do you spell that frog-sample? *s*) Monster party-stomper here from X-Dream... When you think about it, this track is SO simple it hurts, but somehow it works out beautifully... Cool! I'll give this the same rating as Ubik: 8/10 Bom shankar!
  19. Good, sweaty ol' compilation and my first encounter with the Pulse series... And this compilation features a track that was a MASSIVE hit here in Aalborg/Denmark in 1996/97... Chakra And Edi Mis - "X Files (Monkey Mix)"... This was SO MASSIVE that even the mainstream discotheques played this in between DJ BOBO and 2UNLIMITED... Pretty unusual for a psytrack, but nevertheless true... Quite ok compilation, but nothing special... Rating 6/10 Bom shankar!
  20. Process - One Drop Or Two? Artist: Process Title: One Drop Or Two? Label: Creamcrop Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 01'45" Intro 02. 06'44" Oktober Revolution 03. 06'26" Terrorist 04. 08'24" Prismatic 05. 07'11" Psychobabble 06. 07'41" Mono Klang 07. 06'25" Quality Solids 08. 07'07" Maharishi 09. 08'23" Blue Moonies Review: Process is Benji Vaughan and Sean Williams and they're among the veterans of psytrance. They've been signed to such labels as Flying Rhino, Tip, Matsuri and Transient. This new album is fairly good and offers good, quality British psytrance. My personal favourites are Oktober Revolution and Psychobabble (Hint: Killer-melody!!), but I generally look upon this album as an entity and the tracks blends beautifully into each other. The style can't really easily be categorised. At times it's dark, moody and minimalistic, but then there's full-on stomping, psychedelic moments as well. All in all, this is good without being anything special. Rating: 7,4/10 Bom shankar!
  21. V/A - Boyd In The Void Artist: Various Title: Boyd In The Void Label: Flying Rhino Date: 1995 Track listing: 01. 12'49" Masaray : Time Traveller 02. 08'39" Slinky Wizard : Supernatural 03. 11'25" Technossomy : The Joker 04. 06'08" Green Nuns Of The Revolution : Atomic Armadillo 05. 07'13" Sheyba : Ganesh Review: Awesome!. This is what psytrance is all about and this is simply a monster-compilation from the good old days. The CD kicks of with a very cool track from Masaray. "Going To That Level Of Trance." Fantastic track from the album Cosmic Trancer with a nice melody. Second up is Slinky Wizard with the cool track Supernatural. "They Have Established Contact With The Red Planet.". Very good track with loads of samples and an cool, spacey atmosphere. Next up is Technossomy with a track that starts slowly but soon develops into a stomping killer! Brilliant track. Then we have Green Nuns with a truly atomic track! ) An extremely fast, full-on, co0Oo0OoO0L track with a brilliant melody and nice ending. Finally there's Sheyba who delivers a slower but very melodic track, with a nice bass-line pumping beneath the surface. Also an amazing track. All in all this compilation is a KILLER! No doubt, this is the shit and offers very-high quality psychedelic trance at its best. If you stumble upon this compilation do not hesitate to buy it and get a load of the very best of the oldies but goodies. Rating 9,1/10 Bom shankar!

    V/A - Monarchie

Ehh yeah... I'd really like to say that I *DIG* this compilation, but the truth is, that I've only really listened to it 3-4 times in the 4-5 months I've had it... Saiko-Pod ROXX though.... Collecting dust right now... Dunno why, I usually like this style... Perhaps I'll listen to it some more, and come back with a fuller review... For now: 6/10 Bom shankar!
  23. Hallucinogen - LSD Artist: Hallucinogen Title: LSD Label: Dragonfly Date: 1995 Track listing: 01. 03'44" LSD (Radio Edit) 02. 09'10" LSD (Live Mix) Review: This is one of the alltime classics... LSD. is without doubt one of S. Posford's masterpieces and everyone HAVE TO KNOW this track... This EP features the track in a short radio-version and a longer live-mix... Nothing really new here... All that's noticely different is the length of the loops and build-ups and breaks! Well.. What else can I say... this is a classic and everyone should have this in their collection! Rating: 9,2/10 Bom shankar!
  24. Yeah... This was my first Infected Experience... Intelligate is brilliant and features the classic Jodie Foster sample from Contact: "This is a unique time in our history, in the history of any civilization, it's the moment of the acquisition of technology, that's the moment when contact becomes possible" ... Groovy, energetic track! Small Moves is not quite as good, but still it has nice qualities... Like the breaks and the melody... Yeah... Overall score 8.9/10 Bom shankar!
  25. Transwave really DID/DO IT for me, and this solo-project from Frédéric Holyszewski is fairly good, but in no sense a masterpiece... I like the variation in this album, and I'll give it 6/10 Bom shankar!
