Yahel has just become more commercial...

So today morning I take a look at the world charts on MTV and imagine how big my surprise to see that No. 1 in Israel was none other than Yahel!! But it wasn't psy, it was plain pop music. At first I thought that it must be another Yahel, but no, I recognized his grin in the video. So what do you people think? Is it a one-off thing or will he be making pop from now on?

BTW I think that the exact name of the track was Yahel & Nimrod Lev - China

yeah but if Yahel was making commercial trance, that wouldn't be so bad, but this is pop, I'm talking Britney Spears pop, NOTHING to do with psy, trance, or any other electronic music genre, not even eurodance!!

Heh - God forbid the guy should actually try to make a living, instead of spending his time working for nothing so fuckwits like you lot can spend your time downloading his work from kazaa and soulseek and complaining about EVERYTHING.

Best wishes.

Hehe, Gibber you are right!! :-)

I haven't heard the track btw. But whatever, he is doing commercial trance tracks since quite a time and some of them are really good if you like this style too. When he's making now pop tracks, so what? If he wants to be the israely tiesto, so what? As long as he pleases people with his music it's fine for me. I guess he pleases people with his song when it's on first place in Israel. Not the psy people but hey, is he supposed only to make his music in a style you like? I don't think so... If you don't like it, then don't buy it. For me Waves Of Sound is one of the best psy albums ever. This won't change, even if he makes pop now. Too bad he doesn't make the music he used to but it's all up to him in the end. If he has the chance to make some real money then he should go for it if he feels like. What's so bad about making different styles of music anyway?

"Wat's so bad about making different styles of music anyway?"

Nothing, but have someone ever switched from the more commercial music to more underground, i can't come up with any names atleast :).

The first albums sounds Imo always the most creative and original, after it it's usual more downhill or more unoriginal..

And usually its the ones who have been a big success, maybe success = bad for creativiness, or maybe they got too much execptions to live up for and try to play safe and the result is booring.

well Gibber, if he's no. 1 in Israel, I doubt he's working for nothing...

"What's so bad about making different styles of music anyway?"

different styles of music at the same time = not bad (the dude from Technohead was making badass hardcore until he scored big with I Wanna Be a Hippie, but then he continued to make commercial tracks AND badass hardcore!! I see nothing wrong with that...)

changing from an underground genre to mainstream cause it brings more money = very very bad!!

It's just like rockers who start releasing romantic ballads cause they realize that everyone like that shit... I appreciate artists for their creativeness, when they use a formula to make a track and sell it, then make another track then sell and so on, I don't really consider them as artists anymore, they just become part of a consumer-oriented industry... While this is already bad with usual artists, it's even worse for psy artists cause they're supposed to conitnue the hippie spirit IMO...

Tatsu, you are totally right. Artists don't live only with love of few fans. And commercial music isn't easy music. If he can finaly live with his music by this way and change his style, he is very good and it's very cool for him...

well you know, maybe he did the track that is number one in israel because he really likes this music? could be possible, no?! i mean i listen to psy and to some absolutely commercial stuff from the charts and like both. in a different way but i like tracks of both side. and even if he doesn't, you don't like this new track, so does it make a difference for you if he did it to make money or because of other reasons? i mean if you don't like it you won't buy it anyway.

maybe i'm a little fragile about that subject but with every thing yahel does some people whine about commercialism. his wave of sound album is too trance like, on his mix album he looks soooo cheesy with the face on the cover, oh my god he is also releasing commercial trance tracks... blah, blah, blah! as if there were no things in live that are more important. but no, always bashing on the artists when they release something you don't like (i mean people in general, not you lemmiwinks!! ;-) ). i used to think goaheads are the open-minded people... but no, gms and astral projection are commercial because they never change their style, infected mushroom is commercial because they change their style on every album, artists that put photographs of themselves on their album covers are commercial... oh my god, this gives me the creeps sometimes!

he he to tell you the truth, I actually prefer Las Ketchup to Chaina!! But I guess you have to be an israeli to like it since the lyrics are in hebrew... Funny, I was expecting to see some israelis react to my post...
