    REALLY????

    Really, 4xCD digipack as before.

    Cosmosis - RetroFuturism.

The first 2 cds will be the Retro compilations and the other 2 cds will be a collection of his more recent work.

If this project is successful I already have plans to expand to Goa/Psychedelic territory.

2 artists have already agreed :D:D:D

I've sold (almost) all average cds from my collection, leaving only "cream de la cream" left. That'd be around 130 cds. Point being, why keep cds in your shelf you'd never listen because the very next cd is much better?

Anyway, good luck with your project Ormion!

So you only eat your favourite food? Go out just with your best friend? Watch only the best of Tv programmes?

Even on the dancefloor you cannot have a set with just the great tracks. You need the others as well, if anything they make the Great feel Greater B)

I'm going with alphabetical order and I just started B... Oh boy.

What I find strange is that you go with alphabetical order. Is that how you have your cd collection arranged? And do you arrange aplhabetically by title or artist?

When and IF i start relistening my collection I will probably do it per label/chronologically so I can hear the evolution in sound. Exception in the case of artists that have a long discography (e.g. The Orb) so I can hear the changes in their sound.

    Hello.

Suddenly I realized, why not to try to offer someone a reward (money, gratitude, anything else?) for creating, say, a track that meets my expectations?

I now think why its not a common practice when many people still pay for the music they want? Maybe many also need a surprise, a freshness?

Anyways, is it possible that some serious producer (or even a beginner) will agree to make a track as per my expectations? Maybe you are a beginner and looking for a practice, or a mature producer already and in need of an inspiration or trying something new?

And what would would you charge?

Basicly, its not something too different. It should be very similar to the creations of, say: Nova Fractal, Artifact 303, E-Mantra, Cybernetika (trance side). To name the modern producer examples.

The main improvement ideas that I need:

    - put more pleasure and enjoyment by not breaking down/minimizing the most beautiful parts of the track; maybe, this will require to create a 15min long track or more, but generously sharing the moments of pleasure

    - perfectize the overall sound by avoiding using, say, any "evil", "caramel acid", "shaman/tribal", "fart" and other sounds which are often used to fill the gap; try to experiment with idea "less is more" but still having the very rich sound output; carefully choosing those "multilayered" sounds by using something sounding, say, angelic or heavenly and original

    - keep the feeling of flying through the whole track

    - do not put kicks and bassline, especially kicks, to the front; this may be the most "revolutionary" to the modern production standarts, but in many old Goa tracks it was like that, if I perceived it right

    - use the sounds of traditional organic instruments or songs (but not Indian!!)

I will not require the use of all recommendations at once. Maybe, to begin with, try implementing some, which attract you the most.

We can try by making a remix of an existing track of someone else or your own or creating a new one.

    Is it ever possible?

so essentially you want someone to make oldschool Goa? Join the club:P:P:P

SIGNIFICANT update of the PDF, you can download the new version.

Here is the list of changes that have been made:

    - Addition of multiple pages on certains sub-styles that needs to be explained further in the FAQ section

    - Some small changes to various sub-styles definitions

    Happy new year ! ^_^

Excellent, but i it would be nice to remind us of the link :P

i didn't expect to get the physical cd once the limited edition sells out, but today with file sharing around, i cannot understand why they cannot make the digital version available at a realistic price (500£ for a few unreleaseds and compilation tracks is a bit steep after all).

The digital files are not meant to be for sale. Bandcamp does not allow you to list music without being available for sale so the workaround is to set the price ridiculously high. during the kickstarter campaign though the digital files are available for 15 £. And remember that in the end nothing stops the artists selling those tracks in their Bandcamp. i do not limit the artists in any way apart from the physical box set obviously. you can actually try and ask them. :D

when i started Digital Reprints one of my goals was to prove to the artists/labels that there is still a benefit from physical releases. i dont know if they get it  but it feels so ****ing amazing to hold those 3 releases in my hands

hopefully the price tag makes a little.more sense now ^_^

You had covers? Luxury! We had to browse thrice-xeroxed mail order catalogues, text only, 6 pt font. Then you made a lucky guess based on whether the name sounded promising and started waiting for a couple of weeks while the postman was wrestling bears and wolves!

    Damn

what is this? why haven't i seen this earlier? but i think they're taking the concept of limited edition a bit too far. as of now there's no realistic way to get access to the tracks on the fourth cd (the other ones aren't new to be as they have been released on the web before) anymore.

Well, that's what a Limited Release is. The concept of printing 300 copies LE and then 500 that are not LE does not make sense for me TBH. The majority of the tracks on the 4th CD can be found scattered around VA releases apart from a couple that are truly unreleased. Even those though Moris is probably gonna have them available in his Bandcamp at some point as a separate release. :)

  9. Cases like this reminds me of the need of physical media. The artwork is not just there to provide a box to store the cds but to tell a story, invoke emotions and provide an intro of what you will find inside.

The old times (before the internet) you didn't know what exactly you were getting when you were buying a cd. You were relying either on the artist's or label's reputation. But if you were really digging then the cover was your only hint :)

Has anyone received the discs? Or even a shipping notification? Or any information whatsoever since the Oct27 update which said "You will be notified via email once your Vinyl is shipped"? I'd really need this information due to current circumstances, but it's been quiet on all fronts...

Well, I received mine either last week or the one before, can't recall. So maybe you should check with them.

I'd obviously love Cosmosis, but frankly the audio quality of the material Bill used for his Retro v1 and v2 is atrocious - some of the tracks that I know were released on CD were 'sampled' from vinyls or DAT without any correction, so they're full of cracks, pops and hiss. No care whatsoever was taken to bring all the tracks to similar volume level and tonal (frequency) balance, so if that was to be the case for Digital Reprints release then I hope it won't happen...

True, although remastering a release of only 100 copies you can understand that it would make it prohibitively costly I am afraid. Although I remember you sometime in the past asking for Retro 1+2 to be released on cds. What changed from then? Hadn't you noticed the sound back then?
