If you'd bother to give Shout Aluma a listen, and put your politics aside, you'll discover just how good a producer Mishel is. Whether he's an ass in person or not, I don't care, it's a phenomenal album and everyone should hear it.

AT LAST! Someone has bothered to mention this album here. No I don't expect snobbish psy freaks (you know, the sort that actually enjoy Derango), to enjoy this stuff at all, but Shout Aluma is the best melodic full-on release this year. I'd even argue it's the best psytrance album of the year thus far. But no, because he's too melodic, too fun, and dares to move away from the usual psy sounds (not to mention he has his own unique breakdown style), you'll all turn a blind eye. Gits.

You have gone tone deaf. There are far less melodies on this album, most not very memorable at all. It could never hope to even think about coming close to touching IFO. In fact, I'm convinced this will never be done (unless Jannis adds more breakdowns and lots more keychanges to the next Filteria album ) However I will concede that Fairytale IS certainly a damn sight more listenable than Derango - Tumult, which to be honest is nothing more than 4/4 kicks, one-note basslines, and lots of shitty sound effects. Pants!

I have to agree with Charlie here. I've bought this - Suntrip are deffo worth supporting - but damn it's a hard nut to crack. The first few tracks are just the sort of unmelodic, dark psytrance that I try to avoid. Because lets be honest, Cybernetika does a much better job at that genre. What I've heard of the rest of the album seems pretty similar though, so this isn't going to get much further play from me.

I agree with Ormion here... I'm a stickler for melodic psytrance like this. Yes, it's fullon, but it's GOOD fullon. Lots of great melodies all over the place. I'm still not totally familiar with the album, but after the first 3 tracks it does lull a bit. Reborn just has a few acid-y lines weaving around as its "hook", nothing more than that. But what I've heard of the tracks that follow, it improves. Anyone expecting another Symphonic Adventures may be disappointed, but this IS still good MELODIC psytrance. I love it. Oh and KEY CHANGES. LOTS OF THEM. THIS IS GOOD! MORE PLEASE!

With a genre as incestuous as psy/goa trance, where you have to have a certain type of production and set of lead/drum/bass sounds just to "sound right" (supposedly, not that I agree with this, but that's how it is - metal suffers with the same problem), yes every attempt to do something just a little differently, or things that other producers don't do, is a good thing. Rotate To Vibrate is my favourite track on Heliopolis, yes, because of the key changes. The effect is sooo euphoric!

GSH, you should track down Klubraum immediately. It's like DKKUDE, but more diverse and melodic. Their best album.

There's one thing on this album that doesn't appear enough: key changes. Rotate To Vibrate has some GREAT ones towards its second half, and they really REALLY help to lift the relative "monotony" of the tracks. More goa artists should use key changes! Don't listen to people who claim that they are "cheesy" because that is just total and utter bullshit. If goa trance, as a genre, wants to progress, then that sort of attitude is only going to hold it back. So yeah, Rotate To Vibrate is currently probably my pick for best "original" track on Heliopolis (not counting the remixes).

Quoted for absolute spot-on-ness. Listen to THAT melody on Lunar Civilisation remix... are there any melodies that damned memorable and euphoric anywhere else on the album? No. They all suffer from the "sounds like random arpeggio no.#345623" problem. I still like the album though! Not often we get ANY goa these days.

I've only heard it once through so far. Overall it's similar to Sky Input, but it's less FULL ON ALL THE DAMN TIME. The drum parts seem rather less repetitive than before (pitch changing on the kick drums! yes! love that effect - sorely missed on Sky Input), and the melodies are somewhat more carefully constructed. Very early generalised thoughts though. If any of you enjoyed the first album, you should buy this as well.

Okay, I've finally got off my arse to register here. I'm not really into fullon, "forest" (what the hell is that) or dark psy or any of that rubbish... but I do like melodic trance. And melodic psy/goa trance. Filteria may not have originality on his side, but he does at least bother to WRITE SOME FUCKING MELODIES. *ahem* So, yeah, I'm looking forward to Heliopolis. A lot. I'll be ordering it from Chaosunlimited soon after I wake up tomorrow. Flipie: how about giving us all a reason why Jannis' music irritates you? Because you haven't, yet.

*sigh* Once AGAIN Juno give us another album that fails to deliver. Don't get me too wrong, Pistolero and Hule Lam are works of sheer genius, but from there it's down hill most of the way. In Insects they've tried to do the kind of dark acid tech style that Mike Dred and Christian Vogel pioneered over 5 years ago! Insects, by comparison, seems very weak and unoriginal. Further on it's mostly dull dubby "stuff" with somewhat adventurous sounds here and there. Nitrogen Part 2 really picks the pace back up; Solaris is a nice little excursion into slow tribal beats, and Song for Ancestors takes this a little further but really doesn't do anything special (rather like the vocal here though - there's just not enough of it really). Overall then a fantastic start, and a relatively impressive ending completely ruined by tracks three through six that just totally failed to impress or interest me. If you like dub at all, you will very likely enjoy Shango; it does a better job of exploring new territories than IM's Classical Mushroom ever will. But personally, even after scrutinising this to pieces, Luciana is still the only Juno album I enjoy, as it's many light years away from everything else they've done. 6/10 (ps. yeah Pistolero isn't psy-trance, but if that's the only style you can bear to listen to then you've got to wake the fuck up now)
