Word... I remember a promo text bashing thread on israTrance - and I haven't hung out there for about five years now... But I agree completely, it's superflous, annoying, and even disturbing to read the promo texts.

I agree completely. Really original work is becoming sparse, and I think it's because so much has been done already, and the genre seems a bit exhausted. For me it goes both ways - I don't hear so many new original tracks anymore, and I don't produce much that is somewhat original anymore. I keep repeating myself... That is why I am turning to dubstep these days

I think a lot of plugins do this. I almost always have a reverb tail in the beginning of my mix, if I don't think twice before bouncing. The easiest trick is to start the bounce after having newly instantiated plugins - so, close the host, open it, and bounce without playing back before the bounce. This way there will be nothing but silence in your reverb buffers.
Another thing you could do is to empty thems yourself by making the host playback beyond the end of the track untill you are certain that the reverb is silent.

It's fun, but I should also consider getting some actual records. I have a Flying Rhino that was warped from standing in a window with the sun shining in... Shame on me!

Hi guys and dolls,
I just moved out of my old apartment, and into a new one. I had a big box of junk, that I really didn't know what contained. I got a bit surprised when I found a Technics 1200 MK2 in there. Appearently it's a pretty sweet deck, and it seems to be in complete working order. Cool. Only downside is, it has no pickup, and I know absolutely jack about this kind of stuff. So, what would be an excellent pickup for this? I was thinking about posting in the music making section, because I don't just want to listen to records, I also wanna freck'em up a little, and maybe learn the basics of scrathing...

Hmm, I don't know what chipsets will definetly work on PC. It adds to the trouble, that some chipsets will be dodgy in only some configurations. I think there is work being done assembling a list of known configurations that will or will not work...

So, are there any tried and tested configurations of "SoundCard (1394) + PC (WinXP)"? (or it's a useless question?

- sorry to make this sound so bloddy difficult... The only way to be (almost) sure, is to know if there are people who have tested with:- That particular soundcard (pref. same production batch since components may vary between batches).
- Same drivers, or if someone know of a driver version that seems to work.
- The same operating system (service pack included).
- Same firewire chipset. This is harder to determine, as there are subtle differences in makes and models and manufactorers. For instance, RME or Presonus (I think... someone out there) has openly stated, that they don't support the Agere Firewire chipset, that, say, the new iMac uses.
Even then, they may be surprising stuff happening. Some users report absolutely flawless operation with the TC Electronic Konnekt series, except when Outlok is open - then there are dropots, because the network interface drivers of certain network cards are saps, that can't program sensibly, and that makes the operating system delay audio processing, of the audio drivers are constructed in accordance with Microsoft "standards". It's a damn jungle, and a treasure hunt. Luckily, most of the time, things work out pretty good

That depends on your problems:
1) The interface doesn't work. It's crappy, doesn't work either standalone or on your system. Lesson: It's a crappy interface, and you should probably get another one, or a total refund.
2) The interface doesn't work with your system. Drivers are a mess, and you can't get stable throughput. The lesson learned is that this particular device doesn't work with your particular system at this particular time (driver updates may solve the problem). Or, it may be bad hardware, hardware errors that look like driver issues, ...
3) The interface is not satisfactory: Noise, bad converters, bad pre-amps, bad feature set, stupid functionality, hard to use, ... Lesson: Try before you buy :-p
Try before you buy is always applicable, and if possible, try it on your own system. Scenario (3) is the worst, because it's hard to convince the manufacturer to refund your money. The other ones are not equally bad, because they just mean frustration and wasted time. To some (me!), that's worse than losing money though... So be very careful about which lessons your are ready to learn, and what experiences you are willing to acquire. But do remember to enjoy yourself when you find the right interface

I have a 410 too, and I am not very impressed. The converters are only so-so, when they are not actually noisy, and the driver seems pretty unstable.
Now, I develop for TC Electronics Konnekt series (not the driver!), and I realise, that when it comes to firewire audio, there is no clearcut answer to the question "is this a good one?". Different machines and especially different firewire interfaces makes it very difficult to predict results with any audio interface. I can't use my 410 on my intel mac. I can use my Konnekt 24D with excellent results (it sounds better, if we disregard everything else). I know some people out there are in the opposite situation. Sadly, since the Konnekt is a superior piece of hardware.
So, the best advice is: try before you buy

Yup, some people are really pushing limits... DNA was the only real new and surprising thing on MusikMesse though. There is a lot of bigger-better remakes of old news around these days.
Oh yeah, and the stand-alone VST host (don't remember who did it) is kind of neat too.

I saw it on MusikMesse Frankfurt, and it seems really really cool. Of course, it was only demo'ed on the obvious melodic sounds, and not anything like drums or complex mixes. It appears to be working, with a few drawbacks:
- Sounds can be slightly mangled when movved far distances in frequency. Time doesn't matter, it sounds good anyway.
- When there are a lot of notes to be separated, the general noisefloor seems to be increased considerably.

I think this is the least of your worries - if you find a good one that doesn't break (steer clear of novation...), then you should be sorted. The keyboard I use is from '96. It works great. The only problem is all the nice features that may or may not come in the next years - but being a conservative old fart, I wouldn't take the time to learn them anyway, since my old PC200 mkII does just what I need.At present I am getting less time to make music.Is it possible that if I buy a controller today, it gets outdated the next year and I feel that I spent something worth nothing.

Hi there,
So after years and years, it's finally here. I have the black mate to my White Rhino. The Ebony to my Ivory. Cool. So, I turn it arond, and there is this sticker on the back with track 4 & 5 on the tracklist. A quick trip to Discogs reveals that underneath, the tracklist is misprinted. It also informs me, that there is an edition, where the tracklist is correct.
Naturally I wonder... I am guessing that the misprint is an earlier batch, and hence more "original". I won't love it less if it isn't, I am just getting curious
Does anyone know?

Oooh... Well, not yet. Vista being sooo immensely crappy has been hard to port to. I think the drivers work fine, and the interfaces to it - but quite honestly, the guys doing the TCNear control panel (that would be me), have been way to busy to do vista-support. It's coming though, but with the release of Desktop Konnekt and all, there is just not enough hours in one day.can anybody confirm that konnekt 8 runs fine with laptops (MSI) and vista?

The Konnekt 24D, Live, and StudioKonnekt has built in DSP processing, meaning the reverb and compressor/de-esser/EQ runs on the actual Konnekt. These effects can be applied on the inputs directly, but can also be set to "plug-in mode", so they can be used on any source from your DAW in cubase/Logic/whatever, just like a regular plug-in. Mind you, only one instance of reverb, and one compresser/de-esser/EQ (except the StudioKonnekt has two of the latter). The Konnekt 8 does not have this option.what u mean 'acquiring'... explain more thoroughly plz
u mean something totally else than konnekt 8, but a TC product right? like their own vsts?
Read above - you can use them as a sort-of native plugin, but it will not work when bouncing in offline mode - only realtimei think he is referring to the konnekt 24.. But as far as i understood you can only use these dsp effects when recording external instruments. please correct me if i am wrong.
BTW, check out the Desktop Konnekt 6 for a small I/O interface... It's quite nice:
