    Personnaly i thought DSP would be like a huge revolution, and although it has been quite succesfull i think it has finally reached its limitations, and its better to invest on a monster CPU and Memory to run Native Plugins

    Uuhm... What's going on in a PC running plugins is actually DSP. Anyway my visions for the future:

     

    - More compact integrated devices that do more than one thing. We already see sollutions like midi-controller-keyboards acting as audio interfaces too. Eventually serious DSP will be included along, handling synthesis and effects. Recording, mixing and processing can then be done from one single devoted unit, leaving only arrangement for the PC.

     

    - Plugins will be qualitatively better, more powerfull and more exhaustive: more types of synthesis will be available on one synth/unit, and the actual processing will be better. New types of synthesis (the Hartman Neuron is an example) will appear, but those usually take a good long time to mature and perfect.

     

    - New users of these new gadgets and programs will become less skilled and theoretically worse equiped, since presets becomes better and more - new features will be many, and confusing to the novice, and since presets are good and plenty, the incentive to learn and master disappears.

    Big Drums for a little boy

    Hi everybody,

     

    I'm looking for a sample library with some huge drums. Taikos, ceremony style huge-ass thunders, wooden percussion mayhem and such like. I fell over this "StormDrum" lib by Quantum Leap and it seems nice... But I want to hear some honest people's opinions before spending $200... Do you know it? Is it any good?

     

    Alternatively, do you know of any other really good libs?

    Hehe, yeah probably :) - but still... I believe there are good experiences to be had yet. You seem like an open and nice guy, and that's the easiest kind to take advantage of, sadly. I've had my share of "Gee, we'll put out the comp in two months, don't worry" and then nothing happens. That sucks - not as much as your story, but it's certain that things in this world don't always go as expected, or as they "should". It's easy to become fed up, but please don't :)

    I will tell you a little (long) story.

     

    Yeah, that stinks pretty darn bigtime. I've never been to any of the bigger festivals, but the three times I've played has been great. I even got paid once, without knowing I would be. I got the ride to the venue, free bar, the prime-time slots, and was introduced to the nicest of girls (:D). Seriously, don't let one bad (or in this case AWFULL) experience ruin your take on the scene... Please :D

     

    And my whole idea with my first "statment" was to start a debate and hopefully to make other artist see that they are not alone and that it is ok for them to to get out of the bushes and also raise their voices.  Maybe just maybe then people would listen and understand what is going on and then maybe just maybe things could changed a little.

    You've got a full time job and make music in your free time? Then music is to you what we all know as "hobby".

     

    Let's make a difference between people who make music out of some interest, curiosity, for fun, aaaand people for whom music is their life, their career, their time, their full-time job.

    I know, and that's fine. I agree with you, that truly talented artists should be recognized, and have the opportunity to make nothing but art. That would be great - but money, and the chance to earn it has a certain way of "changing" people, and if someone sees the opportunity to make money from something as "art", and not "actual work" (I know I am thin ice here ;)), they'll take it... And that means that the "art" is reduced to a mere craft. This craft has to please supply and demand like any other crafts, and that's where the problem is.

     

    "Should be" and "is" are different things, and in my opinion, the best music will be made by those who cares not (for real, not just saying so) for money and/or recognition. Purity of soul and that sort of stuff. This may sound as "I'm great, do what I do", but I know that I'm not - because I haven't had the chance to bitch about stupid labels and cancelled gigs. That must suck ass bigtime, no doubt there - but if one has bad experiences and quits from that, well.... Maybe it's time to go back to what made music interesting in the first place.

    Because you want to, and have to... That's why I do it. I have mere four releases and three gigs on my belt, all thanks to a few friends' valiant efforts. Yes, the scene sucks at times, but really - if you care that much, and still say "It's not about the money", are you REALLY into this music for the right reasons?

     

    I don't mean to provoke, or say "you made your bed, now lie in it" - just poking for possible sollutions, so fab' artists like Elysium and VOC don't quit for the wrong reasons (or at all?) :)

    Weird CPU issue with Cubase SX3

    I know on a MAC you can chose how much of the CPU you want to use for each application, shame you cant do the same on a PC :(

    On the old OS 9.x you could assign the amount of memory devoted to the application - that is not an option on OS X... If someone knows how to assign CPU on OS X I would REALLY like to know about it :D

    I can't help but be biased :) - I think TC has superior signal paths and converters and whatnot. Besides, it comes with some neat'n'sweet plugins, and DSP capability, so that your computer won't be troubled. [massive edit]

    I understand the confusement (if there's such a word) - I have the US Harthouse version, and the BoxBunny re-release. Shame about the Artwork, the original is sweeter.

    Small world indeed - I just opened a package with this CD. It's the original Harthouse edition from '95 though ;) I was so bummed back in the day, when I had to buy a "bamboo" edition.

    Edit: Just checked discogs - it's the same one I have too :)

    The Delta - "Send in... Send back"

     

     

    It's great, nuttin' more to it. This particular copy has a nice story as well though. I got it in a three-ways trade from Tatsu, by buying Prosect Andy a CD, and he sent one to Tatsu. I had been looking for this CD for ages, and was even considering downloading it from some dodgy place.... Then out of a clear blue sky, a day I was in a bad mood, Andy MSNed me, that he had found a copy for trade - so Tatsu totally made my day.

     

    - Therefore, should I win, my prize goes to Tatsu, because this lottery is also about sharing, helping out and so on... :D
