hmm.. where are you at in the states that you don't have a psy scene?
you know, IM usually tours the States at least twice a year.. prolly more now that they're based in LA.
-
the early Timecode compilations (orbis tertius and timecode:cypher), the first Alien Safari, and other early SA comps were some of the best psy compilations ever produced. it was a new sound then, psychoactive, and smashed dancefloors to bits. these days you know exactly what to expect from them - they haven't really evolved much. the new shift and broken toy albums are okay, they try some different tricks, but not all that innovative or psychedelic.
just my opinion.
artifakt still comes up with very nice tracks almost every time, though.. can't wait till his album, whenever that comes out.
cheers

imo, you can trance out to any time signature.. only i'm afraid most psy ppl aren't willing to allow a different type of beat to enter their brain patterns. some kind of fear of change, I guess.

lol
sounds good. porn-house, lol.

ahaha
if it's indeed eurotrance, you should buy her a nice present.

Ashes to Ashes is one of the best tracks ever written.

oooh.. marbles! i want some.
you have heard the 'va - are you goa enough' from a year or two ago, right? reminds me a bit of Scozbor, though not quite as crazy.
-
it's remixed by X-Noize, not X-Dream. And it's not an 'official' remix - the guys didn't have the original files or anything.. there's a long topic about it on Isratrance somewhere.
Delta - As a child I could walk on the ceiling (Sub6 Remix) is actually a much better track, imo. One of the best tracks by them.
-
Serioiusly, the only one I could see breaking the boundaries is maybe Artifakt.
Phyx is decent, too.
The rest eh.. not bad quality music, but too predictable.

Raving about SA trance is, like, so 2003.

There are a bunch of spoken word recordings of various poets. I'm waiting to hear Allen Ginsberg's 'Howl' in a psy track one of these days.
Though Bill Hicks samples are pretty common, and he's rather good.

Using the word gay is pretty gay.

Aren't you a bit tired of giving the same recommendations 5 times a week? What's the Psynews.org database for, anyway?
Those are just some of the classic psychedelic albums which everyone should hear, IMO. If more of today's psytrance "artists" were aware of the music that came before them (and I am not talking about the same 20 seminal psy albums you listed), I think you would see a lot less awful unimaginative full-on that everybody likes so much to bitch about and a lot more variety in the sound. I think a bit of cross-pollination will only lead to better things.
though maybe it does belong in a different thread.

some slightly different recommendations than last week's:
in somewhat chronological order..
Sun Ra - We Travel the Spaceways
Terry Riley - In C
Brian Eno and David Byrne - My Life in the Bush of Ghosts
Swans - White Light in the Mouth of Infinity
Bongwater - Power of Pussy
Global Communication - 76:14
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 2
The Orb - Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld
Alpha & Omega - Dub Magic
Amon Tobin - Permutation
Boniche Dub
Twilight Circus Dub Sound System - Step Like Pepper
to be continued...
next week!

The Gappeq track rocks!!!

Grrrgh.. Nexus's early, unreleased tunes were top-notch. But I guess he coulnd't get released, so he tried to fit his sound in the 'dark-psy' niche, and came out with boring formula power psy. Hope he goes back to the roots soon.

Killargh album.
Seriously, one of the classics. And the remastering sounds great. Recommended!
-
I think the mp3 release is a promo, so it might be different from the CD cut.
pretty mediocre stuff, imo. I expected more from Joti.
-
yeah, this album is nowhere near stellar or groundbreaking. pretty typical melodic stuff, imo. There's much better morning music out there. Search and ye shall find.

I didn't mean 'sound like Cassandra's Nightmare' - I meant if it's as psychedelic and fun. I don't expect him to go back to the same sound.
Qlippoth was passable, but, frankly, except for one or two tracks, I found it rather boring. Not too many fresh ideas or sounds on that one.
Most comical mislabeling of an MP3 you've seen?
