  1. Elysium - Jupiter (Unmixed Final Version)

    http://soundcloud.com/sheyba-elysium/elysium-jupiter-raw-sample

What's cooking in the Elysium studio? I'm working on a fresh new tune for a compilation where the theme is the planets of our solar system. The tune will be named "Jupiter" so of course I'm using phat twisted sounds from the legendary Roland Jupiter 8 synthesizer. This is the final but unmixed/mastered version.....

  2. Wow :D I did not intend to provoke such a reaction with that statement. First of all it's a sarcastic statement (hence the smiley) and all I really wanted to say is that I only listen to music I like. If I hear something I don't, I just turn it off, hence I don't know much about this "bad" music. Furthermore, 'bad' and 'good' music is all a matter of taste... There's a boatload of things I don't like, and therefor just don't listen to it. A good example of this is the radio. I don;t listen to the radio because 99% of the music played I don't like. Now, in respect to psytrance, I listen to a lot of different things, and some are more my cup of tea than others, but that does not necessarily mean that the things I don't like are 'bad' music...

As such I think it is not a good idea to compile a 'worst of', because that's just ranting about other people's taste.

(Movies are a completely different thing though :P)

    + 1000

If I started on what I do not like I would probably be kicked out from this forum (joke) due to the fact I would conflict with the majority's taste :) :)

I never understood the need for "Best of" - "Worse of" topics. It's really a waste of time and only show something we all know. TASTE IS TASTE. Instead why not debate about so many other and a lot more interesting (IMO) topics within the scene.

    1. Why aren't more artists interested in voicing/support political issues (forget about the eternal Free Tibet cliche)? Is it taboo to be political observant but yet OK to save the Whales and Trees?

    2. Has it become more easy to call yourself a musician and by that result in stereotype "Supermarket music" to get a fixed recipe of how to make music (Due to the many forums and help you can get there)?

Just two examples. Please fill in more interesting topics :)

  3. That's interesting info.

When did they stop liking their music? Was it before or after "Amen"? And does that even count for their (hopefully) upcoming album?

Btw I'm not making jokes about them...

A while back before Amen. At least I know Lior did not think the new Astral was that interesting (or good). If they like the new stuff they are working on has to be seen. I seriously doubt it though. I am not sure about Avi but to mee it seem he is living the glory "Star" life and is not ready to change track in fear of losing fame and gigs. Lior on the contrary seem more ready to leave Astral behind.

Problem is (and I've been there myself) that it's very hard to go from famous to less famous (most artists are attention whores) and to lose a high income. I believe that's why so many of the old guys make music they would have hated 15 years ago.

  4. I didn't say people should like what AP produce nowadays...I just don't understand why a lot of people only mock them. I mean, most of their output since 2002 really isn't that great, it's average stuff. But I liked "The Prophecy" and what I've heard of the upcoming album (if it will be released, who knows) and their Jarre remixes. Those tracks clearly demonstrate that they haven't lost their genuine sense for great atmosphere and melody.

I think the main reason for people bitching about AP and showing no respect (my main point of criticism) is that the same persons loved them back in the days and couldn't stand the fact that they developed their musical style into another direction and thus felt "betrayed".

I'm not saying people should like AP, but I think they don't deserve all the spite...

When knowing that they do not even like their own music anymore but keep making it to maintain their gigs and status then people have all the right to think it's all ridiculous balagan.Astral used to make great music. Today they are only a shadow of what they used to be. The reason why they are still getting gigs is because of their old music. NOT the new music!

PS! I can't stand their "Star" attitude on photos etc. Dark sunglasses, hip-hop signs with the hands etc... It's all gone pop.

  5. I don't think it's that bad, but I am a product of the Eighties.

    Yeah me too :)

Elysium, do you know what the new wave track that starts @ 25:15 here is? I want it so badly.

Sorry mate got no clue. Could be a "Kitaro" tune but I am not really sure.

  6. More votes indeed, but it's pretty nice to see 3 newschool goa trance albums featured in top 10 and Classical Mushroom at 1st place. It seems that people loves thoose copycats.

Pretty obvious considering the majority of the new-school members taste on this forum :) Personally find these votes a waste of time as the result is very predictable year after year. Nothing new under the sky here or in the 2010 vote.

I am surprised nobody even mentioned Chill Tribe Records for their great releases in the 00's.

  7. Well as it relates specifically to a reply I made on the thread, which although asinine had a valid point.

Namely charging 75 Euros for 3 secondhand CDs. I merely commented that the seller seemed to be either someone

feeding a crack habit or a bread head.

    :D

I find that comment an insult. Maybe you dont and think it's a good ol joke. I do understand why it was deleted.

  8. I fail to see why it seems to be so important to come to a general conclusion about IM or any other artist or why I should change the words that describe how I feel about some music.

Because I strongly believe it's distorting the History of this scene claiming they invented the "Wheel" as some seem to preach every time the talk is about IM (Not saying you preach). I find it to be false "marketing" when example newcomers are told IM created "this and that" when fact is they continued in the footsteps of true pioneers showing the way before them. I also find it sad that IM run away with most of the credit (among those who have no clue what came before) instead of giving the true pioneers the credit as they deserve.

The "problem" is (as I see it) that 99% of those who claim IM invented the "wheel" were introduced to the psytrance scene via IM (or other Fullon which I do not really care to call psy) and by that lack a fundamental insight into what came before IM and what they copied from. It's here the misunderstand has to be found when the talk is about who invented what. Yes taste is taste but fact is also fact. And fact is that IM copied a lot of artists and did not invent the "wheel". No matter what their die-hard fans say.

  9. Yeah e.g for me MFG, Prana , AmaniteFX, Astral Projection , Pleiadians, Psychaos etc all are unique

Then we can conclude that IM in reality is no more unique than any other artist with an recognizable sound. And by that the claim that they were pioneers etc. fall to the ground :)

  10. Unique is not to be able to recognize an artists sound. There are many artists who you recognize instantly. I still have not seen one good explanation why IM are considered to be unique. To me they did nothing new at all. They reused the same melody lines heard in countless tunes from Israeli and UK artists and used the same lead sounds etc. Nothing new or unique really. Unless you got introduced to psytrance via IM (then you would probably think Fullon was über psychedelic) - then it's obvious a person would think this is revolutionary - but it's not to me at all. Far from!

  11. don't know man. maybe i'm just ignorant and stubborn. i just can't take the music seriously. maybe it is amazing and psychedelic in certain moods. for example i'm able to enjoy Gigi D'Agostino in certain moods, but i would never take him seriously as an artist.

I agree. Of course it's all about taste and how you see "psychedelic" but my biggest problem with their early stuff is that I can't stop hearing all the copying they did from a lot of those goa/psytrance artists they grew up listening to. Inspiration is great but their early popular work is to me a lot of copy cat material (I know some disagree heavily). To me they ripped of the sounds from MFG, Astral, Indoor, Edi Miss and a lot of that time's UK artists. I will never agree they did anything remotely innovative (except maybe their production based on having access to huge studios in Israel via BNE).

  12. If you liked them back in the days I'm sure you would be a little sad too about what they are doing now.

I would not keep crying 10 years later ;)

it's ridiculous really. taking IM seriously in a goa/psytrance context (from the beginning) is like taking Will Smith seriously in a Hip Hop context or taking Rick Astley seriously in a Synth Pop context. and this is not about matter of taste, it's simply about realizing obvious facts.

    + 10.000 :)

You'll get flamed now he he :)

  13. I would respect them if they didn't do pop.

I don't think respecting people got anything to do with their style of music. It's all about what kind of people they are inside. I don't know the guys but as Profane I do respect them for doing their thing even though I do not like what they do now or what they did back in their popular "psy"trance days.

On the contrary I think it's a bit sad really to see people still cry over them. :)
