1. Can anyone tell me if there are some foreststyle dj's and if yes the names :).

I mean dj's who play derango, ka-sol, apoxina stuff, psionic, penta, maybe some GOW etc...

Or suomi dj or more abstract freakazoid???

Just want to know the more melodic side in the darkness and I don't mean full on...

  2. Someone should write to Trevor and threaten to kill him if he doesn't play old school. (Headshot from the crowd should be easy to conceal).

Anyway Derango, Trold, ghreg and some of the darkish stuff I'll enjoy. Probably I'll play some games in the chill out to so if there are people who enjoy playing games chess etc. I'm up for it, I mostly suck at it so victory can be yours...

Introduction Eraser vs Yöyalka (round 1):

Probably most of you know the suomi style music that gets released at a nice rate these days. Well these guys were in that boat fairly early (not as fast a TF and squaremeat etc ofcourse). In 2002 they released this round 1 album and it is actually a very nice piece of psychedelic music that has been released in a time which seems very crowded with progressive and a massive rise of full on music.

They use deep psychedelic melodies and have some heavy bassline oriented tracks. It is Psy , sometimes melodic, sometimes twisted and deep. it has darkish touch and flow going through it. Enough variation on drums and bass without going in to random. The samples, melodies and bleeps are overall well placed and form nice build ups to deep explosions of energy and sound. Those sounds are mostly well packaged in very atmospheric background sound, that seems to drag all sounds into some direction(s).

The better environment for this would be an old castle with a nice centre square and lots of old artifacts to make it feastly whole or deep in the woods at night. Surely for me ½ of it is very night stylish and only seems to kick deep when it is dark.

    The Music:

Reunion: This tracks kicks fairly hard and has a nice and long build up. It has lots of bleeps and twists going through it to keep you busy. It’s a one of the more funky tracks that has enough melodic ups and a fast stomping ending.

BBQ U: We have a more heavy track to digest here. It kicks hard again and has less bleeps but longer melodic sounds. It’s psychedelic and it fills the room, it has nice melodic peaks and lots of sounds going around the main ending melodic part.

Illalla: Well we continue with the heavy bass part here but this tracks seems to drive harder for me. This is a track with an attitude and has some weird deep melodies that really work well on me. The rising ending melody is deep and goes high, nothing fluffy but very uplifting stuff. This itches and shakes the floor around. Fantastic!

Ghost Train: I surely prefer this train above the Orient Express… We have a more or less broken bassline here. Although it doesn’t kick straight forward it has enough power to keep you moving. Lots of bleeps and twists going around in this one and a surely enjoy the overwhelming melodic sounds that make it fit together. This tracks has lots of variety and keeps surprising till the end. Excellent!

Quosick: The tracks lacks a straight forward bassline and makes this less appropriate for the dancefloor in my opinion. But Hell this is melodic psychedelic stuff that makes my mind go far out of reality. Strange twists and melodic worms going that eat your brain.

Hattivatti: Hehe once again a more funky track with a jumpy bassline and well placed melodic highs. Lots of variation and fairly easy to digest, nice for a sunny walk.

Weekend Warrior: Well not my favorite at all, a bit dry imo and depends hard on some distorted electric sounding samples. It isn’t that bad overall, but it lacks sounds that pull me in .

This level: Maybe a bit more abstract than the first half of the album, but doesn’t mean this is bad.

Rassah Munkabu: Again a more funky one, but this one seems to go fast. It builds fast and the melodic parts are short but good. I like it, strange quirking stuff that comes and goes. As most tracks on this album the ending always has some explosion or makes it all come together.

Mutual Ritual: Fast moving sounds again that come and go and mostly make there entrance at the right moment. Good stuff.

Rum and Bases: Well drum and bass… Like the atmospheric sound sometimes but this is not my kind of music in the end.

    Conclusion:

The album is a necessary piece that deserves its place in every psyhead’s music collection. It’s suomi style and experiments enough without going too abstract. It also has that forest style darkish magic touch (atmosphere) that makes the melodic parts deep and daring enough.

My personal favs are hard to choose but 3 and 4 are very strong. Tracks 7 and 11 I dislike the most, but besides those 2 I actually enjoy them all.

    Final point: 9/10

  4. Introduction RTTS:

For starters return to the source is a story on itself. In my opinion this label represents what old school goatrance music and parties should be about. I present you the intro text from the 80 page booklet provided with the album. This booklet contains information on some artists and little story about the chakra journey and the use of trance music in this mind-expanding and transcending moments.

    Here is the intro text:

    Return to the Source

Moving beyond the spirals of time

We return to the source of love divine

As we dance as one with the forces of creation

The sleeping serpents will be awakened

With these snakes of creation our souls will entwine

To dance this ritual buried deep

    Within our collective mind

Opening our hearts we surrender to the dance

    One tribe united

    We journey into trance

In this temple of love we will dance as one

    One body

    One mind

    One heart

    Let the journey start…

Well I think that this is the ultimate feeling that drives me to parties nowadays too. That search for oneness on the peak of a party. People, colors, sound, smell and You become one mind/energy that transcends time and space for that unique feeling of being all or none at once.

The hope that artists (dj or live) make the story fit so well that it takes me with them on a journey through trance-music and climaxes. For such an experience you need good music, good placing of tracks and peaks and the power to let go things that don’t matter at that point in time.

The Return to the Source parties in the good old days (95-98) and especially the one mentioned in the booklet were filled with good music and lots of celebrating people. Maybe take a look at some RTTS party reviews or info on the net.

Most tracks on this album, you’ll only find on this Return to the Source release.

    The music:

-Let me take you through some of the tracks of the goatrance disc:

Medicine Drum – Ulhuru : This is the opening track it contains some tribaldrums that continue through the track. Quirking sounds an small melodic samples make it a nice sounding trancy whole. The track lacks a bit of power and melody for the dance floor but could be a nice opener.

Mamal – Tanuga : I think this track is kinda boring, it lacks power and kick to be on the goatrance side.

Doof – H2Om : Well this sounds very much like most doof when I look at the sounds being used, but this one also lacks power, acid sounds etc…

Prana – Prominence : This is typical prana (style cyclone etc.), fast moving melodic sounds, short melodic pieces with enough rhythm to keep you moving. Anyway lots of small spiraling samples so good music imo.

G.N.O.T.R. – Fire : The track is called fire and the chakra point is the solar plexus, so not Plexus Fire… This is a good UK acidspinning track, the way we know the nuns. Good intense stuff for dance floor peaks, very strong drive that makes you bump.

Transwave – Anahata : For me this is maybe the best track on the album. Pure transwave, typical sharp sounds and strong bassline. It starts strong and the build up is good and not too long. I always like the more background sounding uplifting melodies or samples they use. It takes you to a smooth climax with an excellent melody, this is what I really enjoy, a strong, good and a bit rough sounding climax. Superb!

Cosmosis – Telekinetic : This is playfull cosmosis, not the heavy acid music. More use of melodic samples like in gift of the gods but less intense. In all this is a good track but far from excellent.

Outer Active – Aesophagus Fables : Most of you probably know OA from v/a -D.T.M.P, this is mediocre track and has for me some annoying sounds going through and it lacks some structure. Anyway not bad but they could have done more with the sounds.

Universal Sound – Third I : An electric track to say the least, twisted track with lots of electricity and strong drive but misses completer melody or needs to be more full (more sounds in the box).

Mindfield – Cosmic Courier : Besides the last 1.30 min this is tooo boring for me.

-To be short about the ambient disc:

Mostly beat less tracks that aren’t that liquid or psychedelic enough imo. Well some tsjingel-tsjangel and smooth flowing melodies for nice background music. But for me the ambient isn’t really like floating through psychedelic landscapes. What is it then you ask…? music to relax in a chillout, so you can talk with some friends and don’t get bothered or really drawn in.

    Conclusion:

Disc 1: The goatrance disc contains some fillers and some excellent tracks in my opinion.Well I can say that for me ½ of tracks are more than ok and not that easily to find on other comp’s so that makes it a worth buy for me on the music part. This disc gets a 7/10 for me in all with some 10/10 tracks on it like the Transwave.

Disc 2: Well nice ambient nothing more and nothing less and surely not the trippy kind. Smooth background music in all. 7/10

This album contains some nice music from the good old days (aka old school). Some tracks are only released on this album and make this a goody for all the lovers of the old spirit. The thingy that gives this piece extra value besides the releases is the nice 80 page booklet about the Chakra journey, trance music, parties and artists.

All in all a nice album for starters and people who still enjoy the roots of it all.

Final point : 8/10 for the collection worth!

  5. Same here!

This album smells like an astral projection "TEN" remixes release! What a shame Etnica hasn't followed the Transwave's idea of a "Best Of" with some rare or unreleased tracks inside for this anniversary!  :(

    553209

Idd. I don't understand why we would fear good old remix's and unreleased with good mastering :).

And I don't see this as anniversary... :(

I really have put my hopes on Transwave...

  6. And don't apologize to the label! If they released great albums before, you probalby got them already. If they started to release crap (like this one), you definitely don't need their promos anymore... j/k

BTW: have you got the new Cosmosis? I'm cooking a review mysefl (I think it's just blinding, but far from perfection that was his Synergy CD), though I'd like to know what the likes of yourself and other frequent 'big star' reviewers think of it too?

    244724

I think this is the truth. Don't say maybe people will like it... Review from your point plz. Be honest if you don't like tell it to the people...

The main idea of reviewing is that people who identify themselves with the reviewer buy the things he likes because you know you like his taste.

A theory is more informative if it containes lesser parameters to make it fit...

What does this mean don't include too much parameters as "people who like sunny music or full on will maybe like this" or "they have released good stuff in the passed so ..."

Neutral far stretching reviews really are useless...

Otherwise just review the things you really like and want to give 8 or more on 10 and don't review the things you think suck or dislike!

Anway I tried it and I didn't like the album. Wanted to know if there was something I could possibly like in a full on album like that.

And now I feel I wasted an hour...

  7. Excellent psychedelic stuff. Really love this single. What these guys did in 1996 is unbelievable.

Psychopod is the more funky one of the 2 tracks but dreampod is so full of well placed sounds.

The reason I review this is because they have conquered my mind :).

    10/10

  8. Ka-Sol – Fairytale

First of all maybe some tracks that are representative for the tracks on this album.

Well I say if you like tracks like the ones on schalb2, professor mephisto and the track on the Apsara album this cd is something for you. If you are into old school goatrance music this will also be very enjoyable because he sometimes goes back in time .

Anyway it’s music for all those psychedelic freaks out there!

Christer has been making crazy music for 10 years now and could be comparable with the glory days of the Battle Buddha’s. But he has his own touch and sound, the music sounds modern but still raw and has imo more psychedelic sounds.

The album actually has a medium dark and a lighter side, so if you are not into the darkish ka-sol style, this album contains enough light (vice versa) for all of you without losing his massive foresttouch.

2nd this album has very straight stomping heavy basslines to keep everybody moving till the end of the night. Don’t expect the easygoing everybody is happy cliché full on stuff ! These tracks want you to hit the floor with your feet like a 800 pound giant would. Express every deep desire or emotion as if it were your last few minutes on the face of this planet. The stormy melodies wave trough your mind like a hurricane. And so they will continue to swirl through the dancefloor till the last soul joins in this psychedelic feest.

It’s like someone is driving you through the night, you have to keep moving like a real freak, it’s not dancing, it’s giving all you got to free yourself from your bounds.

    A small track description:

Track 1: Pure bubbling forest music, with a strong drive and lots of quirking sounds.

Track 2: More melodic than track 1 and has an ending like old Tim Schuldt in a modern jacket.

Track 3: This is pure stomping nightmusic with a very intensive melody. This is what ka-sol is al about!

Track 4: This has a strong drive and build up. It’s melodic hysteria, if the dancefloor is ready for it take them to a peak with this track.

Track 5: Lots of old school influences in this one, track is what the name says it is.

Track 6: One of my favorite melodic tracks on the album, has some Koxbox sounding samples going through it. I love it, this is the future.

Track 7: Good melodic music nothing more nothing less.

Track 8: Really good music, lots of power in this song, also one of my favorite tracks on the album. This is light for Ka-sol but very good and strong for modern melodic music.

Track 9: Don’t love this track, for me this is to cheesy and maybe a bit to superficial.

Track 10: Nice ending for a great album. Soft but good, has nice atmosphere.

All in al my favorites are: 1,3,6,8 and the last part of track 2.

I liked skreno (4) very much though on the dancefloor!

The downside for me is track 9.

Anyway I give this album a 9/10. A véry good album with topnotch nice Swedish forest music combined with melodic goatrance influences. For me this is probably Suntrip’s best release and one of the best releases this year so far. He’s also one of the most mind blowing live-acts I have experienced!
