  1. My favorite 2011 album for now. Very varied with an epic post-apocalyptic atmosphere and excellent drum programming. Fans of Architect's Consume Adapt Create should definitely give this a try. http://www.adnoiseam.net/adn141

Consume Adapt Create is great! Over the last few years I've come across the words "Ad Noiseam" more and more frequently. They put out some good stuff, and no wonder, seeing they release music by Bong-Ra, End.User, Somatic Responses, DJ Hidden.... Oh, and I checked out the rest of the Mobthrow album the moment I heard Bulb Engine :) Great post-apocalyptic feel as you said.
  2. What do you guys think of Breathless? When people mention Laurent Garnier they talk about Acid Eiffel, Wake Up, The Man with the Red Face etc... but, for me, Breathless seems to be on an entirely different level. The manner in which the layers come together in this track...you can only listen in amazement.

I was thinking about making these lists aswell somewhere but judging from the first post in this thread it looks like I already did.

Gantz Graf isn't techno BTW, it's idm :P

Sometimes I find the line between them hard to draw. I guess I need to listen to more music.

  3. I'd be interested in how the chip 'dynamically rewires' and how they select nodes to be connected. I mean are all nodes connected to each other, or just some. Because in the brain each neuron is connected to a several thousand other neurons out of the 100 billion neurons present. So how are these connections chosen?

  4. Yeah, what about practically every goa and trance hit? :P

No, not atleast what I'm trying to get at. Every goa/trance hit has good builds and breakdowns, and the effect is achieved through the continuous build/breakdown as psymetal&bass pointed out. But a few tracks do have a moment that stands out and etches itself in your memory. If this isn't making sense, nevermind. Another example is Shakta - SBPB at 5:20. Just when you think the track can't possibly do any better, this heavenly melody comes in.

  5. I was listening to Chi-A.D. - Eye Am the I the other day and I realised I listen to the track in complete anticipation of the build in tension from 5:20 to 6:10 and that stellar moment at 6:10 when the beat completely drops and this empyrean synth kicks in for a few beats, then the beat kicks back in and the track takes off.

Anyone got similar favourite moments of brilliance?

  6. Not really, I'm afraid; I'm not a fan of popular science generally. I will say that Wikipedia's technical articles are pretty reliable in my experience, so they're as good a place as any to start.

They're reliable but they're really hard to read in my experience. I agree with you about popular science in the sense you can't understand science fully unless you actually sit down and do the math. That's the problem with communicating science to the public, wrt issues such as global warming, it's hard to communicate math.
  7. Great tracks posted there. That's a pretty broad spread, but I think you want stuff that's deep and layered.

Process - One Drop or Two (I know this is psy and you don't want psy but the builds are great)

    Double Dragon - Hairy Liquid

    Double Dragon - Encrusted Filth

    D.I.D. - Alcyone

Ambient Temple of Imagination - Mystery School Vol. 1

Violet Vision - First Sign of Communication

    A. B. Didgeridoo Oblivion - Vortex

Nam Shub of Enki - In the Valley of Mood

iTAL tEK - Wind Tunnel and Deep Pools (Intelligent Dubstep)

    Axi - Mayan Temple

    Black Sun Empire - Breach

Ubar Tmar - if you already haven't heard his stuff

following are all 90s techno, similar to technolo

    EQUITEK - SKYWALKER

    LUKE SLATER - Inductive Channels

    Monolake - Cyan I

  8. Most melodies get tired after you've heard them too many times.

There are some that never seem to get old and I guess you're referring to these.

What would you say is an example of such melody?

Nothing like hearing trance for the first time but there are a few

Shakta - Spiritual Beings in Physical Bodies blows me away each time

    Electric Universe - Electronic Pulsation

    Boris Blenn - Jeboa Electrogarden

Astral Projection - Still on Mars

    and a few others...

  9. I confess I haven't heard the albums you've named, and the conditions are seems really hard to meet (goa trance but not goa trance) so I'll try. Hopefully some of the recommendations will hit home? These are all tracks from genres other than goa/psy that have tranc-ey elements.

  10. Grab a few beers and smoke a spliff... then listen. I personally can't say goodbye to these heavy hard hitting psykicks, they sound like hammers smashing against your skull, totally addictive!

    +1 to speakerhugging and psykicks!

  11. (As an Indian) Osho always came across to me as one of those Indian things that the West likes more than Indians ever will because it's supposed to be spiritual and mystical and Oriental and what not but isn't really.

I personally am a devout follower of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Pastafarianism is my watchword and pasta strainers my headgear. Never leave home without a pasta strainer!

  12. All this talk of moot-ness reminds me of this Big Bang Theory scene...

Sheldon (finding bathroom door locked) - "Leonard, are you in the shower?"

Leonard - "I can't hear you. I'm in the shower."

Sheldon - "I asked if you were in the shower, but that's moot now."

    Leonard - "What??"

Sheldon - "Moot - rendered unimportant by recent events."

Leonard - "I CAN'T HEAR YOU. I'M IN THE SHOWER!"
