  1. Here's my rushed and biased review:

Excellent release! The beauty, the melodies, the trance, the oldschool. Love it. It's the soundtrack to my late night bicycle rides. A Blueprint for survival will certainly be one of the top ten best albums of 2009. Even though I have already heard several of the released tracks, the new mastering makes them sound like new. Really crisp and beautiful stuff.

    Highly recommended to all.

  2. My list in no particular order:

    Accidental Occidentalism - Symbiosis - 1995

    1st Flight - Flying Rhino - 1996

    3rd Flight Slipstream - Flying Rhino - 1998

    4th Flight Velocity - Flying Rhino - 1999

    Black Rhino - Flying Rhino - 1997

    Yellow Compilation - TIP - 1995

    Phosphorescent - TIP - 1996

    Beyond Colour - TIP - 1998

    Halluci-nations - TIP World - 2000

Mu Clear Compilation - Nippon Crown / TIP - 1997

    Dementertainment - Twisted - 1998

    Demented - Twisted - 2000

    Made on Earth - 2CD - Blue Room Released - 1997

    Pulse 6 (CD1) - Sub Terranean - 1998

    Joker's Files - MDMA - 2000

    Vibration 2 - Com.Pact - 2000

Beats and Beyond - Surreal Audio - 2000

  3. Yes, it's hard to explain...

It must be the sense of speed and the beatiful scenery that make it happen. Watching a beautiful sky while listening to something such as AP's Mahadeva, feels like God itself visits my soul...

I know exactly what you mean

  4. I heard from someone i talked to working with shiva shidapu back in the day that duvdev had actually prevented erez from playing sets with DJ Jörg and told him to focus on their new album (which then was Converting Vegetarians).

So, good luck trying to pry Erez away from that duo..

Understandable as Duvdev has everything to lose and Erez everything to win.

  5. It says Post-production, meaning it isn't finished  Maybe it's on cannes next year? Either way, never heard of it nor the director

A lot of movies get shown at Cannes even though they're in post-production, and several movies get re-cut after they've been shown at Cannes.

Oh, and the movie might not have been part of the Cannes competition...

  6. I just stumbled over this at Twisted's Younger Brother page:

"Meanwhile Benji and Simon are working with Philip Ridley on the soundtrack for a film called Heartless, which is set to be one of the UKs biggest movies for 2009 which premiered at Cannes in May 09."

I watch a lot of movie's, but I'm not familiar with Philip Ridley and I can't recall that his movie did get any special attention in the Cannes 09 reports I've read.

Any rumors or comments about this movie or his previous work?

  7. I deeply agree with Hitler on this matter. Deeply.

    Also, with the Eurovision remark.

Classical Mushroom is a musical masterpiece, in and out of the psy/goa scene.

The entire point of this topic is that we want another Classical Mushroom album, not more crap.

For every new album they release it's a new big step away from a new Classical Mushroom album, and the current progression of their music points towards the Eurovision Song Contest, sadly.

Simon Posford should start a new collaboration with Erez and save him from Duvdev. Then Posford and Erez could create amazing music together, and Raja Ram and Duvdev could create their own electronic rock band. It's a win-win-situation for everybody.

  8. I doubt they'd make an album for those reasons. You can't force people to do things like that over the internet with a few haphazard comments!

Really how old are you? Can you really be so dumb/naive/troll?

Facebook is full of stupid people doing stupid things if X people join this or that group, so people can actually be "forced" to do things because of a few haphazard comments.

Let's just hope that the GNOTR guys aren't stupid, I wouldn't want another full on album by an old school act...

  9. Now that I've listened to this release a couple of times I must say that I'm disappointed.

Mr S, Kamni and Piter 26 are good tracks because of their subtle melodic parts, but the rest of the tracks are forgettable darkpsy.

  10. Been a big fan of Trance for a good few years but was getting tired of the same old sounds over and over and was on the look out for something very different. Stumbled onto Solar Fields by chance a couple of days ago and have been listening to various tracks of theirs on-line and have been mighty impressed. Also been listening to tracks by Asura, H.U.V.A Network & Aes Dana and Im getting really excited about acquiring some new deep thought provoking music to usher in a new chapter in my life.

There are so many excellent releases in this genre.

We recently compiled our Top 10 Psytrance albums, of all time. That topic might be useful to you, but keep in mind that most people on this particular forum enjoy the stuff pre 2000. Most of the stuff in our top tens can no longer be purchased.

Here are some releases from the last six or so years that I find to be of high quality:

    12 Moons - Solid State

    Atmos - 2nd Brigade

    Filteria - Sky Input

    Freq - Strange Attractors

    Son Kite - Colours

    Haltya - Electric Help Elves

    Human Blue - Electrolux

Talpa - The Art of Being Non

The Misted Muppet - From The Legend

    CPC - Uber Den Angst

    Derango - Tumult

    Jaia - Fiction

    Magnetrixx - Wired

    Midi Miliz - Non Standards

    Nystagmus - The Immaculate Perception

    Ocelot - VectorSelector

    Psykovsky - Debut

    Filteria - Heliopolis

    Triac - Mean Between

    Vibrasphere - Archipelago

    Zolod - Deja Vu Fabrique

    Parahalu - Space Rock

    Transwave - Backfire

Abakus - That Much Closer To The Sun

    Adham Shaikh - Fusion

    Bluetech - Elementary Particles

Evan Marc & Steve Hillage - Dreamtime Submersible

    Hallucinogen - In Dub

    Phutureprimitive - Subconscious

    Pitch Black - Electronomicon

    Shpongle- Are You Shpongled

Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible

If you manage to get through the above list you will find that psytrance is a very diverse genre, ranging from the utterly mad and intense to the mellow and laidback. Sometimes there are beautiful melodies, other times the melodies are more subtle and sometimes there are no melodies at all.

Try some of the above releases and tell us what you like and we can give you more specific recommendations.

If you visit Psyshop or Saiko Sounds you can preview and purchase some of the releases.

You can also visit Discogs to get an idea of labels, artist connections, previous releases etc.

  11. I want to like Tim Healey, but he's not really my cup of tea, too club oriented, but I think I would love his stuff live. Feeling a but ambivalent.

Here's another track of his that has gotten a lot of recognition, it's a Pete Martin (aka Slide) and Tim Healey collaboration:

It's a great anthem, if you like that kind of stuff.

  12. As for the reasons why the quality was better in the earlier times, I second the reasons Trolsk stated. Nowadays just about everybody can become a producer ... and while this is actually a cool thing, it's also part of the problem. The market is flooded with thousands of average tracks. And it has become easier to release the stuff aswell.

It's sort of a "democratization" of music making.

If close to anyone can become an artist the absolute amount of above average releases should increase because of the normal distribution of talent. The previous distribution curve of talent was biased towards high amounts of talent because of the need to invest in equipment etc (see my original post). When the threshold to make music is lowered the distribution curve of talent will get the shape of a typical normal distribution curve since talent is normal distributed. It means that the amount of good and bad releases should equal each other. Our experience is however that the amount of average and below averages releases has increased whereas the growth of above average releases has declined.

My theory is that psytrance is (more or less) dead and therefor the above average talents in general do not make psytrance. If you were to look at electronic music as a whole then you will find that the absolute amount of above average releases have increased. If you look at a particular genre of electronic music - like minimal techno - you will find that the amount of above average releases is higher than the amount of below average releases because this is the most inspiring sound at the moment, and that's where the talent is at the moment. The same could be said about IDM a few years back, and about psytrance pre 2000.
