    hi joker, Some interesting ambient music can be found at www.n5md.com and also at www.tympanikaudio.com....lotsa good artists and tunes to shoegaze thru...warning though, my friend, it can be very mellowyellow :D

     

    n5MD is more of an IDM label although they release some postrock etc. stuff and Tympanik Audio is the same and they seem to focus more on the industrial side of IDM.

    The good stuff from 2010...

    Massive Attacks new album is pretty great although some people seem to dislike it.

     

    Diaphane - Samdhya is the solo album from one half of Ab Ovo and it's superior to Jérôme Chassagnards solo stuff.

     

    Four Tet - There Is Love In You, for all the gay moments we all have now and then :wub:

     

    Autechre - Oversteps is pure love B)

     

    Architect's new album Consume Adapt Create is the best I've heard this year. I fell in love w/ I Went Out Shopping To Get Some Noise instantly when I heard it, The Analysis Of Noise Trading had its moments and Lower Lip Interface was a pretty big disappointment, but now mr. Myer is back on track again ^_^

    Beatless Ambient...for what reason?

    I'm listening to Numina- Transparent Planet and while it is beautiful with spacious, floating pads I'm wondering why. Is it's sole purpose to b a soundtrack when going to sleep? It's hard to listen to as I find myself losing focus, trying to follow the melody. With droning pads it just seems so ponderously slow. With no beats to ground me, I feel like a balloon that is being carried away by the wind.

     

    Does anyone enjoy this other than at night?

    It depends, but you have to be in the right mood to enjoy beatless stuff imo. Acid and other psychedelics are great and weed sometimes.

    First EP and album are great after alot of listens, nice for night-time bus travels. Unture is still gay, but the Moth / Wolf Cub single w/ Four Tet is fucking unreal! Especially Moth :wub:

    I agree with digitoxin, the melodies just come and go...there is no build up, lack of transition and no 'story' so to speak.

     

    Too simplistic in my opinion. I would go back and listen to Infinity Project, Prana, Man with no name, cosmosis, astral projection....much better than this shit.

     

    I didn't find this one that interesting either, I wouldn't call it shit, but it's certainly not music I listen to, more like background sounds for doing something else :mellow:
