Guest X Posted December 30, 2003 Share Posted December 30, 2003 I believe this is a difficult question cause Psy-trance is a kind of music which change too fast.If you compare a typical 1997 track with a typical 2003 track you'll see a looooooot of differences, sometimes when I compare for example an Astral Projection old track with a Digital Talk one it's like I'm listening two different kinds of music! How Psy-trance will be in 20 years from now? IMO 1.the production values will be very high.We'll have awesome sounds and-impossible to describe-effects, every track will be a sound technology demonstration. 2. The music will be harder,faster(BPM 150 or more),darker,chaotic maybe with great basslines but the melodies will be rare although they'll still exist. 3.The kinds of Psy-trance(full-on,progressive,dark,experimental etc.) will be more independent to each other. I mean some people will listen exclusively progressive, others exclusively dark psy etc. Maybe each one will have an exclusive name also and we'll never hear again the phrase ''Psychedelic or Goa trance'', ex. Progressive psy trance will change to ''Propsytrance''!!!(Yeah I know, it sounds ridiculous). 4.The people who listen to Goa will be a lot more than today of course. Lemmiwinks Posted December 30, 2003 Share Posted December 30, 2003 psytrance in 20 years in my opinion: - The frontier between eurotrance and full-on psy (especially israeli) will become VERY fuzzy, maybe even non-existent. - The frontier between minimal and house music or techno (depending on how "hard" it is) will become fuzzy to non-existant as well. I do, they were all dictated by the uprise of technology (music making techniques/ production - synthetic drugs - internet) and the kids' lost of innocence to mass media, global economics and massive distribution/advertising channels. I believe that psy wont be around for that long, I see integration of genres at best, ethnic based. I also dont think the 4/4 kick will survive another 20 years. And good future trance will be multiple point sonic imaging. Probably some ambisonics based standard, or maybe some dolby concert audio standard. ya know!?!? After rock n roll had been around for six years or whatever, we were at the "riding along in my automobile" -- very repetitive, groove-based, unidimensional. that's where we're at right now. so while there'll still be a market for music for kids to dance to on pills, there's still a long way to go. but whatever the current form is, we can't expect that to carry on into the future in 20 years time, our kids will be buying us a 5CD box set of never-before-released shpongle studio demos (a la bob dylan basement tapes etc) :¬) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It used to be disco before it became house before it became techno before it became trance. It will be something vastly different in 20 years; surely it won't be psytrance anymore. Likely, however, will be new types of four-on-the-floor dance music, music we as trancers will not be able to relate to except for the basic beats and sidebar of drugs.
