I have been trying to create something like the itchy sound in the beginning of this track:

think it's a saw, fm modulated or strongly distored/shaped, playing a ryhtm loop with a highpass filter moving up and down

Shaped... That could be something, yeah... I tend to forget about highpass filters, but I will give it a go - thanks for the siggestions

you'r welcome =) if you tell me the synth you are using, maybe I can design a preset and send it you so that you can see how it's done (if I have that synth). Did such 'scratchy' sounds countless times on various synths.. and it's pretty easy if you once you understood the basic synth setup.

... Still working on it - I get so precious little time in the studio these days, so I have a pretty long turnaround

Bandpass filter is your friend on FM/TEEBEE 303.

The rest is 909 Transistor Rhythm sounds. And some Sinewave synth.

 

I ALWAYS loved that track. So hypnotic yet indian scented.
