Hosted on Ektoplasm's site is Smooth Genestar, Marco Koeller's downtempo project. This is the same guy who produced the New Age Hippies Entrance. What you get is a hodgepodge of downtempo, ambient, chill out, and lounge music composed between 1999 and 2009 according to the promotional text. The cover is a champagne colored field with some circles on it. Pretty low key and it fits the music perfectly. "Dark City" is a moody contemplative piece with its spacey pads, reverberating sample and piano structure. This is easily my favorite track on the album. "Regentanz" has a deliberate march with a melancholic feel that makes me think of past regrets. The rest of the tracks fit the lounge motif, with none being terrible or great.

 

All told, this was a relaxing mixture of genres, perfect for sitting on the beach watching the waves crash on the shore. While not as deep or complex as other releases, you can do no wrong with this. The fact that this is free makes this a no brainer. Recommended.
