Hi folks,

i'm searching for some tips / info / advices about a specfific piece of hardware.

I've got a quite complete-enough home studio at home. But sometimes i woulk to be able to create music "on-the fly"...

I mean, when i'm travelling in the train, or just sitting in a park or just lying in my bed...

I would like to be able to make some rythmic parts and simple synth lines without needing to power on the computer or the synths....

In the past i had one the first Electribe... the blue one (only synth, no rythmic...) EA1 it was I think...

Would you have some hints about these kind of piece of hardware ?

I've heard about the new MPC500 which is battery-powered... could be very nice for rythmic parts.

thanks for any advice you can give me !

dude, if you want portability buy a Palm and check this software out...it compromises very little for fitting in your hand and being able to be used anywhere you wish:

sounds amazing and easy to program...this is more for live performance where as Bhajis Loops is more for producing.

here's the website:

i bought a palm to use this program and have been very impressed. it is great fun to be able to develop musical ideas anywhere you go :)

there's a community forum here http://www.bhajis-garden.org

you can listen to songs made in the software

hey, thanks drew.

this sounds quite interesting....

but i have to say that i know absolutely nothing about palms....

Is there lot of differences between different models ? (like with usual computers, cpu, ram, ......)

Is there a specific model you would recommend for making music ?

i would recommend buying one new (so the cpu is fresh and ready for your tunes).

I bought a TX ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_tx ) 2 months ago for about $499 Australian dollars.

here is a thread at Bhajis Garden related to choosing a palm http://www.bhajis-garden.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=504

but of course if you check ebay there are lots of secondhand palms, some which look like they have had very little use. you could find a bargain.

Otto - yes the sound is great - when going into a mixer it is top notch. i have lately been using the Palm to create melodies in Microbe which i feed through the external source line for my SP-404...great fun and totally portable :)

this thread has a link to a song composed in Bhajis Loops by loonie

i was amazed at how such a crazy song could be made inside a Palm.

anyone wondering about audio-quality or production/composition/mainpulation capabilites should check this song out.

what's best is that using the palm, songs like this can be made ANYWHERE...on way to uni/work, sitting peacefully in a forest, lying on the couch

:)

Wicked. Cool track. Yes, the idea of being anywhere - I was thinking up in the mountains somewhere with a huge view - and creating music of this quality is very inspiring. Bring lots of batteries, right?!

wow a mountain top would be ideal, i hadn't thought of that. possibly even write the track as you climb the mountain (during rests) - that way you'd have a lovely building movement followed by a wonderful climactic finale that you can produce as you sit atop the mountain looking at the wide horizon and all below you :)

the palm i have has a rechargebale battery...hopefully the mountain would have a cabin with a powerpoint :) though the battery lasts a long time

i´d only use it to note down some melodies that appear in my head in MIDI, so i can export it at home and use in my DAW.

it sucks running home singing a melody over and over again in my head only to realise its gone halfway

i have no clue about palm either, how much do i need to pay leastwise?

it is not much of a strain

the program is designed very well with good colours

reznik - check ebay for cheap palms. try a T5, tx, e2 -

here are the supported devices http://www.chocopoolp.com/bj_try.php

you could get it quite cheap

the app itself is only $26. i have already got more than ten times that much value from it :)

here are the features of Bhajis Loops

But do make it a stepp mountain for the achievement of efficient inspiration!
