Emou - Still ... Pretty Good Year

Miles away from the godlike Shponglish chillout poured over us mortals by Simon

P and friends, Mr.Emou serves his chillstuff ...minimalistic. However, -Still

... Pretty Good Year- occasionally also sounds alot like millionseller

Underworld (Born Slippy) at half speed, vocal and stylewise. So this Haldolium

side project is a serious contender for the originality award, ar least in

Psy, but how good is it actually? Well, its so damn hypnotic, excellently

crafted, fiercely addictive and refreshing that I had to play it for days

straight...resistence is futile. If there is still some justice in this wicked

world, -Still...- would be destined for a classic status, so don't let Emou

anonymously drown in the pool of average and so-so releases...Highlights: -But

It's Better-, -Le Ciel Est Triste (Rmx)- and -The Summer Is Old-

Review:

Let me start about by saying this is a completely different album then what I'm

used too, but in a style I now like, and haven't really heard before -It might

just be me not getting out a lot though. ;) There is a lot of vocals in all

the tracks, and actually track (3) is a song, with psy trance elements and I

think it works just great. Track (2) is well-known by now, it's been out on

12", and with a better remix by Bitmonx, but still the original is strong

enough. Track (3) is song, with vocals from start to end, this female sings,

while deep bass pounds in the background. Really nice laid back track. Track

(4) is a richer, but still dark track, with a vocal going "this is

multitronic", again deep bass and female humming. Fits perfect, and not bad at

all. Track (5) is my favorite on this album, it's a remix of the same track

from their H2 album, ambient CD and what a touch of gold Emou have placed on

it. Simply beautiful! Really deep, nice percussions and vocal.. Perfect

chilled bassline. Track (6) is really good too, a bit faster, reminds a little

of the latest album from Sash(old now), but far from as commercial as that.

Nice morning track, if you like vocals. Track (7) is a really deep, slow

track, with super cool vocals, both female and Emou himself? Second best track

on the CD, really good. Nice sounds. Track (8) again has vocals, which works

great, in this slower, piano influenced track, with deep bass it joins rest of

the tracks in style, and some lyrics are thrown in too. Works great. Track (9)

and last, finishes the record perfectly, by being really slow in tempo, and

minimal rich in sound. Throughout the whole album, is amazing production, but

I have no idea how to classify the style, wether to put in chill-out or not.

But do want you want, and buy as soon as it arrives. Slow haldolium style with

nice and beautiful vocals, starting perfect, and ending you wanting more.

9.5/10

Absolutely perfect..... different style from I'm used to as said above - but

excellent mix of vocals and electronica - works pretty well, I give it 8/10

At first I hated this album. But every time I listened to it I loved it more. I

hated it because it was so different, I was not expecting anything like

this... Now I'm addicted to it. Absolutely amazing, romantic, warm... At least

9/10.

Well, can't get my head around this.. Psytrance with vocals... I'll pass.. This

guy should stick to just being a member of Haldolium...
