Artist: Midi Miliz

Title: No Exit / Aeromode

Label: Boshke Beats

Date: 2002

Track listing:

01. No Exit

02. Aeromode

Review:

This is the second release from Boshke Beats and Midi Miliz brings us

two very monotonous tracks with hard pumping techno beats. There´s no

question that people will start the usual discussion whether this is

Techno or not, but I must say that it´s still a difference between the

Midi Miliz sound and more traditional Techno-acts. Even though both

these tracks are very monotonous they´re still not too similar with

traditional looping techno. The great thing is that these tracks will

probably work both as Trance AND Techno! "Aeromode" is an aggressive and

distorted track that would have gotten the label "Hardcore Techno" some

years ago. "No Exit" is perhaps a little bit more varied but I´m sure

there will be some whining about that "No Exit" is just another

Techno-track too. I really like both the tracks on this EP, and if you

know how the Midi Miliz-album "Antistat" sounds like you know what to

expect! If you liked the previous releases from Midi Miliz then you

should get this EP too! The tracks aren´t as great as "Cream" and

"Blackbox" but I´m really happy to have bought this anyway!

Closer translation of Varg Nicolas, through my rusty French: "It's an absolute

bomb to the world of psy tech-trance, a gem in the pure tradition of MIDIMILIZ.

'Aeromode' is hypnotic techno, overload for the ears: gentle souls, abstain.

'No exit' has a touch I'd qualify as 'industrial': the first time I heard it,

I found it had a resemblance to NIN. Anyway, on a dancefloor, the track has

an incredible impact."

i just wonder why so many people complaining abot that its bad monotone techno

music? I tought everybody already know midimiliz sound. Stop setting up all

these boundaries just call it electronic music and be a little more open

minded, good music is always good music and it doesnt matter which style it is.

Artist: Midi Miliz

Release: Aeromode / No Exit

Year: 2002

Label: Boshke Beats

Cat-#: BBS002

Rating: 3/5

Tracklisting:

A: Aeromode

B: No Exit

Aeromode is the A-side and No Exit is the B-side, not the other way around.

Once more we are presented with a release containing no melody whatsoever. And yes, these two are all very much more techno than the rest of the Passages album. I've yet to figure out what their purpose on the album really is, because surely they must disrupt the overall flow of it.

Aeromode is indeed all about the loop, and like Paste - Noerg it's an everchanging one but with loads of more force. It starts of with a distorted FX loop which is kept all the way throughout the track, occasionally being a bit tweaked and pitched. There's also loads of hi-hats and snares in this one, utilized in all sorts of ways. Combining it all makes one fast paced marching techno track. Watch out for the beat turning itself completly loose in the very end! The track is not bad, but it's not all that great either... it does not tell me much of a story, it just seem to exist.

No Exit is more of a fun track with it's tight low frequency and slapping effects. Unfortunately these are only used in the very beginning and the very end, inbetween we have a very forced 4 by 4 session which sounds utterly out of place. Also some of the sounds in this part of the track are recycled from the Spirallianz tune Update 1.0.

The potential is there but is not taken care of properly and, IMO, it is put to better use in the later MidiMiliz releases.
