bomble
Orion - Metamorpheus Artist: Orion Title: Metamorpheus Label: Phantasm Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 07'37" Spider Monkey 02. 08'51" Pot Alert 03. 08'10" Solid 04. 08'23" Metamorpheus 05. 10'22" Future Funk 06. 09'03" Lamfighter International 07. 09'52" Area 51 08. 07'46" Blue Point 09. 08'21" Neu Review: Quite frankly I am amazed that I'm the first to review this album on this server because it deserves huge attention. In short, these are just high quality, intricate, stomping, tuneful and genuinely psychedelic tracks. Each tune oozes production quality and timing - I thought Orion's last album (Futuristic Poetry) was very creative if somewhat lacking in dancefloor power...... this keeps the mental activity levels up while giving the feet plenty to do ! Jean Borelli (Orion) has been one of the most consistently powerful DJ's for many years, and it looks like he's going to be filling dancefloors even when he's not there with these gems. I wouldn't say that any of the tracks are bad - they all have an unrelenting beat signature and plenty of high pitch tweaking to put you into trance in the true sense of the word. Plus you get your money's worth with a full 78 minutes. Why on earth (or anywhere else for that matter) do so many producers just turn out a 50 minuter and hope we won't notice....? I suppose that stand out tracks for me would be : Future Funk (because it is funky surprise surprise), Lamfighter int. (I pity the fool who doesn't want to dance to this) , and Blue point (for it's tasty tribal drums). But frankly it's a joy from start to finish (or should that be 'Danish' ?) This won't appeal so much if you only like minimal tunes (Yumade etc.) because there is quite a lot going on here - though it's definitely not cluttered. If you liked Orions last album, or think highly of Mindfield, then you'll be a happy hippy with this in your collection. 8.5 / 10 (atleast)
Guest AlexG
"all the same & too conventional"...blah! =) all i know is this is good TRANCE, and that is something we haven't seen in quite a while. sure, it's good to experiment and try different things and all that, but the music I first fell in love with was TRANCE, and still, most of of all, I love TRANCE, and anyone who is still making quality TRANCE in this age of "filtered synthesizer farts layered on top of shuffeled beats" deserves to be praised. 8.5/10, get this now!!! Guest vinnypooh[at]hushmail[dot]com
a boring album that also sounded dated to me. but that's just me. 5/

Guest [Anonymous]
"filtered synthesizer farts layered on top of shuffeled beats" -- Amen, Alexg! I agree that Orion is a definite stand-out. There's a nice array of sounds on this album. It has impact. Feeling. That's more than you get with most of today's progressive psychedelic trance. "Area 51", for instance, has a great, haunting breakdown. "Lamfighter International" swtiches gears midway though (granted, a Koxbox track will do that 4 times before a track's through, but it's nice to see other artists rapidly altering the direction of their music while it's in progress) making for a more eventful listening experience. Cool acid lines abound, and variation of percussion on "Blue Point" rounds out the album nicely.
Guest ArchNemesis
Again my danish countrymen surprise me with this type of psytrance. This is much better than koxbox (who has seriously lost their grip), but only the two first stand out so far. Full of great sounds and dark melodies. Orion: I styrer. men pas på, bliv ikke for ensformige og bløde, ligesom koxbox r blevet.

Guest Chai-Whaller
Yeah I agree completely with what is being said above-flawless production, lots of trippy sounds, that nice big fat beat we just dont hear anymore and lots and lots of layered sound. A nice breath of fresh air in this era of minimal trance bollox. This is what Double Dragons would sound like if he had more continuity in his production. Cant wait to hear this outside on a big fuck-off soundsystem!Keep up the great work Phantasm!!!
Guest pastry
Good album.
Guest Epic Automata
This is a good album. I'd put it around the 80th percentile (better than most). It's very well produced (always a plus), it's original and creative, and more fun than it is challenging. My favorite track is 9: Neu. I give it an 8/10. Basilisk
FYI blue point and area 51 are left off the vinyl version...
Basilisk
As for the album, not bad... it certainly has some high points. The title track, Future Funk, Solid, Pot Alert... actually, most of this has something going for it.
Guest [Anonymous]
Very nice album! Fresh funky beats. Jean borelli knows how to make music. I saw him play at Arvika festivalen and his set was veeery goood! Lår basen få knulla!!!!!!
Guest Antic
It seems like this is the album I've been waiting for since one year or so... Jean Borelli is well known for his dj-ing skills, but here he shows the other side of his talents. He's music is hard to categorise, so I won't even try but I'm sure it's neither minimal nor melodic one - it's something right between those two, taking only the best elements of those sub-genres. I think in one of threads in forum Dieznyik called this kind of music simply 'psychedelic' and this term fits perfectly! Orion's music is dark and one of the most alien (along maybe with COP's "Urban Alien") I have ever heard! There is not a single trace of happy goa-trance melodies, only out-of-this-world sounds, weird samples and lots of hard acid, but those sounds create wicked and alien-like melodies. The word ACID is what is this record all about. And I don't mean acid - LSD, but acidy sounds which Orion brought to perfection and twisted them in every possible way. He?s sound can be best described as a combination of Cosmosis' "Synergy", Koxbox' "Dragon Tales", Process' "One Drop or Two" and some recent Shakta's stuff. Sometimes it is funky, more often it's hard and grinding. Lot of hard bass lines and acid-like sounds make this perfect dancing album, though it's also a great listening pleasure as many of the melodies are hidden deep under unearthly voices, noises and effects. What is also worth mentioning is the drums - they're so juicy and groovy, made of many different loops and weird samples. The best tracks so far seem to be (in order of appearance ;-) Spider Monkey, Metamorpheus, Future Funk, Area 51, Blue Point and Neu. Others are close and probably not enough listened yet. Not one of them is crappy nor bad. Anyway it's a great album, so true psy-trance lovers will be happy with this CD in theirs collection. 8.5/
Guest -Shroom-
This is a great album. You dont see much of trance like this these days, and i think Orion (Jean Borelli) is one of the best trance artists ever. If you really look inside the tracks you notice that its not minimal, it has alot of wierd effects that fits exactly to the track. This album worth the money, and ill give it 9/10. Keep going Jean!
