  1. could you be more specific on what dnb you consider to be contained within those boundaries you described? i listen to drum and bass too so just curious.

I'm into the more jazzy side of dnb, stuff like peshay, amon tobin, 4hero, kruder&dorfmeister (not all their stuff's drum&bass, but tis ridiculously good). also love some of the darker stuff like lamb, aphex twin & goldie (although i saw him live and he was somewhat of a disappointment, bit of a twat too) and some more mainstream stuff like kosheen, everything but the girl, pendulum etc etc etc.

what would consider to be good drum and bass then?

  2. I love drum and bass. I have a good 30 + drum and bass cds in my collection. However, i think that there is A LOT of shit drum and bass out there, and this is especially true of the type that i find chavs listen to. The type that requires 0 imagination to come up with, has no variation or intricasies whatsoever in the songs or even between the songs and has some annoying MC spitting out rhymes in a droning voice that an eight year old kid could probably write better in his poetry class (and would probably sound better rapping too)

This is the type of drum and bass i find insulting to my intelligence, especially considering there is so much better stuff out there...

I also like a lot of hip-hop, but again i find a lot of the same problems in the genre.

  3. Ofcourse, these are the typical results when people listen to hallucinogen, i must try to get monica into hallucinogen.

Is this sarcasm or did you not understand the post? Sorry, I'm not as well versed in 'radiology' as others... :P

  4. I was at a house party the other night and there was a group of chavs dancing around to some mindless drum and bass. Me and my friend joined them for a bit but then began to find the music somewhat insulting to our intelligence (i know this sounds arrogant but you know what i mean...yuk) and so we told them we were going to introduce them to some proper 'dance' music and so plugged in my ipod and whacked on hallucinogen. The results were highly amusing, to say the least:

Firstly they looked rather perplexed, you could tell they were thinking 'What the fuck is this??!', when the bassline hit they started dancing, albeit awkwardly. Then a funny thing happened: they tried to MC/rap along to it. It was absolute, pure, fucking comedy. I just wish i'd recorded it. They nearly beat up me and my mate because we were laughing at them so overtly.

Chavs and psytrance really don't mix...

  5. I still need to get those mystery of the yeti cds, they've been on my to buy list for ages! Agreed about mystical experiences though- amazing cd.

Along the same line: does anyone have celtic cross' hicksville? I love this album, the use of acoustic guitar in it is absolutely sublime...

  6. hmmmm.... long list but here's a few:

DJ Shadow-entroducing (goes without saying really...)

Kruder and Dorfmeister: K&D Sessions (fantastic blend of styles on this one: it has everything)

Cinematic Orchestra-Everyday (not really electronica but a freakin amazing album)

Boards of Canada- anything by them it's all good

Future Sound of London- again, anything. Dead cities is my personal favourite though: nice and dark

Amon Tobin: Permutation/Bricolage (the one man orchestra)

Portishead-Dummy (this one's not vocal free, but the vocals are so damn good it doesnt really matter. Their follow up is even better, but you can't really 'chill out' to it)

    OTT-Hallucinogen in dub/Blumenkraft

    Phutureprimitive-Subconscious

Those one's are all good evening albums, if you want something a bit more summery/poppy then check out:

Nightmares on Wax- Carboot Soul/Smoker's Delight (tasty, tasty CDs)

    Zero 7- anything

Gotan Project- La Revancha del Tango (Electronic tango!! hehehehe)

Alpha-Come from heaven/Stargazing (you can't get more dreamy than these)

ok, bored now. That'll do :P

  7. What a night, what a night. My only regret was missing the shpongle set (i've never seen them before :( ) as i was so into the music in the old school room the next thing i knew it was 3 hours later and I'd missed the whole lot. Bugger. Ah well, the green nuns at the end of the night made up for it :D

Just uploaded my photos onto the net, check em out if you want. There's a brilliant one of deathposture right at the end of the night, hehe. anyway here's the link, hope it works:
