  1. Ok, have just become rather excited about this :D It's perfect timing (right after i finish my exams and just before i leave eng for a year), great line up (even hybrid are playing  ) and it's outdoors. I just hope i can persuade some friends to come, otherwise cud be a lonely festival for me! Can't get online to the site, anyone know roughly how much tickets are gonna cost?

  2. Said this before but BT's new album 'This Binary Universe' is an absolute MUST buy if your into ambient. By far the best ambient album ive heard this side of the millennium. It even has a DVD extra which has some really cool visualisation/3D animation to go with the music, and its all in surround sound so it sounds amazing!

oh and i second seraph's recommendation of the orb, awesome group (U.F. Orb is their best, IMO)

  3. Yeah but mate the other music she feels the same way about is POP!

It's not a bad thing but unpopular () in this genre! I happen to really like Shpongle! But just because my Mum likes it doesn't make any better in my opinion. The rest of her taste is shite!!

hmmmm.... i don't really like to put shpongle in this genre. The whole point of shpongle (for me anyway) is that it doesn't adhere to any of the boundaries set by genres, it's whatever you want it to be. Sure, the one tangible thing between the songs is that they all have some degree of psychedelia, but they have so many other elements/genres (yes, even pop!) to them that i personally wouldn't compare the project to more 'conventional' (for lack of a better word) psy/goa trance.

  4. My home town salisbury is about as boring as they get, so don't go there (unless your around in time for the summer soltsice which is always a laugh, partying in stonehenge and all  ) . My favourite cities in england are: london (camden town again seconded), Brighton&Cornwall (great parties on the beach during the summer) and birmingham is pretty cool as well, close to where i live now so go there quite a bit, never disappoints ;) the bristol music scene is still good as well

Feel free to PM me when you come over, would be more than happy to show you around, organise some parties/good nights out etc if you decide to visit anywhere near me (that is providing im still in the country, leaving for argentina in august.... ).

  5. Not sure if this has been posted before, but has anyone heard the 2 new younger brother tracks from their next album on their myspace page? They're not the complete songs, but are long enough to get a good gist of what they're like. What you think?

I've only just listened to them for the first time now, and must say I'm certainly enjoying them. Love the use of guitar in alliwant. Look forward to hearing the rest at brixton :D

  6. Just got the email for this and my holy god, what an awesome line up. This will be even better than shpongle live. I'm so fucking excited, especially as i missed just about every one of them at the last twisted party due to spending most of the night in the goa/tribe of frog room and not realising how fast time went by... Let's get those tickets on sale!!

    Who's gonna come then?

  7. Hmm Im thinking of the same... and flight from dk is quite cheap! Ott live is fantastic! Saw him play in a tent in Portugal once.... I was in heaven in those three hours! Did'nt even have time to get my camera, I did'nt want to miss out one second of it

I really hope if OTT plays live then he plays some blumenkraft stuff too. As much as i love hallucinogen in dub i would have to say blumenkraft is my favourite out of the two

  8. Not sure about speakers, but all i can say is if you get some really good ones, make sure you have a quality amp to run them off. We had a great set up for our last house party, but a shit amp which blew half way through. So we were stuck without music for an hour whilst my friend drove to his to pick up another one. Well annoying.

  9. sad to hear about the live..

but does anyone know, what happened to the shpongle box set?? i have'nt heared of it since that they wanted to launch it last year.. and i'm looking forward to hear these ureleased tracks that the extra cd should contain.. or will they just put them to their new album then? anyone knows something?

Nooo idea, that's been up in the air for months. I'm guessing they might abandon it now though if theyre doing a 4th CD, as it was supposed to contain all of their CDs. Ah well, would rather a new album tbh ;)

  10. now, i take bets. when will the 4th shpongle be released? 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 ?

    place bets now!

edit: btw what does "he won't do brixton academy" mean? surely if he didn't like the venue they wouldn't have booked it in the first place? so? whatever..

He probably doesn't like the venue, doesn't think it's good enough for shpongle ;) You're right though, twas a bit silly of them to book it if this is how raja felt about it...

As for shpongle 4, I'm going to be optimistic and say late 2008, early 2009

  11. Bollocks, bollocks, bollocks. Perhaps my most anticipated live event of the year has just been cancelled. :( Raja Ram doesn't want to play in Brixton Academy and theyve already booked it, so they're not going to be doing Shpongle Live anymore :(

    From Shpongle's myspace page:

Ok, so i am afraid that raja ram said 'No'... he won't do Brixton Academy... which means that right now, there no plans for a Shpongle Live Show... but on the positive side, we HAVE committed to making a fourth shpongle album.... all that time we would have spent working on a live show, we can now put into the studio... there WILL be a Shpongle 4! Hooray!

unfortunately, raj pulling out of the gig has left us with a huge brixton academy sized hole in the record label... the deposit has been paid...any suggestions as to what to do with the date? we are thinking possibly a Younger Brother launch party for the new album, with Hallucinogen-in-Dub live...?

Still the possibility of a younger brother launch party with OTT live is pretty damn good (in fact, it's pretty damn amazing  ), as is the confirmation of Shpongle 4. Can't help but to feel disappointed though, I was looking forward to this SO much :(

  12. Bypass Unit - Dropz Of Obscure Eclipses

    Dimension 5 - Transdimensional

    Filteria - Sky Input

    Filteria - Heliopolis

    VA - Apsara

    Psychopod - Headlines

Oh and the less-known artist Crossing Mind... I'm pretty sure you would like most of his tracks... PM me if you're interested...?

I downloaded a song from this album, really like it. Been trying to find a copy of it, but everywhere seems to be out of stock. Anyone know where i can buy/download this album?

  13. It would have been easy for Simon and Raja to produce an album that was similar to the first two, or completely abandoning the sound of those two albums and going for something different - they instead produced an album with the same feeling as the other two, but was much more diverse. It's very easy to sell out, let's not forget.

LPs don't have to get worse, IMO it's all about taste anyway, and you can't say it will be an 'abomination' because you don't know. ;)

+1. I prefer when artists change their sound rather than just release the same record over and over again, even if the new sound isn't as good as the old one(s). I don't think Nothing Lasts... is their best album, but I'm glad they released that rather than just releasing another tales of the inexpressible

  14. Has anyone heard BT's new album 'This Binary Universe'? Not really mainstream chillout but IMO it's quite possibly the best ambient album to be released this decade. I got it for christmas and i cant stop listening to it. It's absolutely stunning, BT's really outdone himself on this one :)

  15. Update for www.myspace.com/therealshpongle:

As some of you have heard we are planning to do a Shpongle live show in London, U.K... we initially had a date for April, but since we lost our first choice of venue, this has tentatively been moved to may 27th.

All the musicians are confirmed except for raja ram, who is dragging his heels a bit. The main problem, and i sympathise, is that the venue is 'brixton academy'... raj doesn't like this venue, and i also feel that the sound is bad - and my main priority is to have great sound! So at the moment nothing is confirmed... we are still trying to get the best venue, and convince raj to play.

one thought is the Royal Festival Hall... how would people feel about a "sit-down" gig? (there are seats at the venue). the venue is also smaller so we would possibly do 2 nights... i kind of like the idea of a sit-down show, because we could play some of the spacier and mellow stuff, without feeling the pressure of having to make people dance.

if any of you have thoughts about this, or ideas for venues, please post them here :)

Sounds goooooood to me. Although i have to agree that I don't like the idea of seeing Shpongle in the brixton academy, it's a bit of a dingy shit hole (last time i was there anyway). Also, I'm not sure I like the idea of a sit down set, although haven't made up my mind yet. It could be VERY cool, but at the same time i always feel the need to dance when a lot of shpongle songs are played

May is going to be an awesome music month for me if this goes ahead: roger waters performing dark side of the moon and then shpongle live, can't get much better than that

  16. Seen Sphongle live once and missed the last Twisted party because of the new job, but this one i am not missing for no fortune. Another Psynews gathering?

Sounds great. I shall be there. I missed them when i was at the twisted party. Time flies so damn fast when your on a dancefloor listening to good music.

  17. lamb and aphex twin isnt dnb. goldie doesnt have dark sound at all imo. and pendulum? thats actually the cheesiest group in dnb scene and its mostly popular among chavs - yes THOSE chavs. heres a little video on youtube.com of their last tune. defines the word cheese lol... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRb1Rh82Nfk

    645436[/snapback]

slam is a shit song, agreed. but have you heard the rest of hold your colour? it's actually a really good album. and yes you're right lamb and aphex twin aren't drum and bass strictly speaking (i was only really referring to lamb's first album, it's my favourite and the rest arent even close to dnb), but theyre very similar in many respects and both, imo, are amazing artists hence why i mentioned them. and i'd definately class timeless as a dark album, if not dark then certainly melancholic. his live set wasn't like that at all though

  18. Near impossible question  for me, my favourite one depends on my mood. When i'm by myself and want to just sink into some music, then the first one always gets put on. The second one i play when im in a more hyperactive mood, or if i've got friends round and the third one i love when i want to dance :D

if i HAD to choose though, i'd probably go with the second one because i love the world music element to it (especially the latin stuff)
