This fundraiser has arisen because of a tragedy that took place on Canada Day of this year. Three Guelph area teenagers were in a horrific car accident that left eighteen year-old Kitti Restivo dead, and Melanie Perry critically injured. Melanie remained in the hospital's pediatric critical care unit for two weeks in a coma. During this time doctors were unsure whether Melanie would survive or not, and her family could do nothing to help except stay by her side. This was made possible by Ronald McDonald House, a charity that provides lodging for families who must stay near the hospital. During a time with so little hope, Ronald McDonald House created a comfortable and friendly home away from home. Without Ronald McDonald House it would have been impossible to stay by Melanie as she recovered. With her family's support she is now on her way to recovery. Melanie was admitted as an inpatient at a rehabilitation clinic and is continuing to have success in her long recovery process.
