I decided to write this after reading DJSunborn's comment on the voting thread.
"Tips for the new producers:
Sorry, nothing "ringed my bell", try harder!
STOP using psy-trance machine gun bass everywhere,
DON'T make everything sound "Full-on", lower down your damn BPM!,
STOP over-compress your mastering!!!!!!!!!!!,
BE more unique and for God shake, FORGET the typical Goa or Psy forms or use them minimal!,
DON'T copy-paste ideas from others or from the past,
Create your own sound! This is the ONLY way to be remembered in the future!"Important observations. Although they seem harsh they are to the point and well-intended, I assume.
Concerning the tempo, very few goa trance tracks are in the range of 135-140 bpm, with 130-135 bpm almost nonexistent. Not to mention that artists do not include a midtempo/chillout track in most recent albums. Variation in bpm or even mood is scarce as well (e.g. Hypnoxock-Eurythmia).
This is not an 'oldschool-newschool' distinction. The most acclaimed albums from the first wave of goa trance that revived the genre 10-15 years ago and seem to stand well the test of time have an easily recognizable style ("signature sound") - often combined with variation in bpm and/or midtempo/chillout tracks. Regardless of personal preferences:
Khetzal - Corolle (2005)
Goasia - From Other Spaces (2007)
Ra - 9th (2008)
E - Mantra - Arcana (2009)
Filteria - Daze Of Our Lives (2009)
Artha - Influencing Dreams (2010)
Crossing Mind - Holotropic Paradigm (2010)
Which of the newer releases will stand the test of time? IMO, the more of the above features they have, the more memorable they will be in the years to come.
About excessive compression: it does not make the music sound more powerful or dance-floor friendly! It simply makes it bland and headache-inducing!

Astrancer - Neighbor is a great morning trance track. He got rid of the eastern melodies and the cheese indeed. Good for him and for us.

Hi, I would like some Ambient rec. preferably on CD. Downtempo is ok only if it is relaxing and soothing.
psydub, idm and downtempo that is overwhelming and does not have a chilling effect are a no go.
Thanks a lot!

Feed the Mugwumps is the best for me. Mariposa is also very good. Most of the other tracks are alright but not as good as the aforementioned.
-
Alpha Centauri is my favourite so far with No Event Horizon following. Most of the tracks are very good/great actually.
If you like his previous output I can't see any reason why not to love this album.
-
My favourite is easily Mindstream Continuum.
I prefer the 2nd part of the album as well (6-9).
The artwork is beautiful.

V/A - Apsara
in 2005
Babylone Beach is my favourite, very nice slow build-up and beautiful melody. Digitalys is also very good.
Yesod and Ypsilon 5 tracks are weak IMO.
The rest are alright.

Nice compilation, I enjoy the variety.
I only didn't like Mindsphere; his style is too floaty for me and bores me (he's made some tracks i enjoy though)
MR is not bad, but I can't enjoy his music as much as others do. I don't know why, I always have the feeling it could be better.
The opening track is nice, but the kick bass is too heavy/thumping; I think he always does that

E-Mantra's rmx is nice, I like it more than the original I think.
My favourite on this comp is Inevitable Feelings, maybe the best I've heard from CI. Nice flow, nice melodies.
The rest are good too.

Really good album, all tracks are good! I'm quite impressed, I have to say. I agree, this is even better than the debut.
This has to be one of the best acid-drenched goa albums ever.

I would like to hear more tracks with a slower tempo, I think there are not enough. Unfortunately most contemporary artists do not bother to include slower or at least ambient closing tracks in their albums. Most of the time they present their album with all the tracks clocking at +140 bpm.
I need more goa trance at around 130 bpm! Who's with me?

^ Yeah I also really like the opening track, The Rezistor. Right up my alley.
Slinky Wizard is awesome too of course.

Enjoyable album, favourites are Djaningar, Listening Winds & Anamatha. The rest are good as well. I like the variation in tempo.
I hope to hear more slower goa tracks below 140bpm, which unfortunately most artists ignore today.

As I see there are no direct flights from Bucharest to Sibiu, right?
How long will it take to travel from Bucharest to the venue? Will there be any buses going to the festival area?
-
My favourite is Life Never Sleeps, Dog Day Bliss is also good, although the melody is not original as some have pointed out. Filteroid is a good opener and Night @ 12 PM is also nice. Some other tracks (like 5,6,7) are too noisy and messy though.

One month only in Tokyo? This can be costly too. Anyway, I'd suggest spending a couple of days at a hot spring inn near Fuji Mt. (Not in Tokyo, but quite near). It's really beautiful and relaxing there. And if the weather is good, you can enjoy a gorgeous view of the Mt. while you take a bath. It's not that expensive either.
Shibuya is horrible, too crowded and many tourists there, and nothing really interesting IMO.
You can also ask Abasio, IIRC he's been living in Japan for many years.
Cheers

I like Cosmic Call, Acid From Above & Return From The Different Dimension the most. Good album, although most of the tracks sound samey.

Problem is I always have a couple from each pack

So there is no real benefit from me
Me too. Anoebis, you can make some more packs

If I only had some to gift them to

But yeah, they should be a great gift
I second that

However, I think that the horrendous human rights abuses need to be highlighted and criticised until they stop. Suppression and torture of followers of alternative religion and culture is wrong, full stop - everyone has a right to say that. That's not telling others how to run a country, it's basic human dignity.
I believe the part I quoted from you might be an exaggeration / distorted view that we westerners often have about other countries. Can you give an example on this? Maybe I'm missing something.
Actually quite often my Han Chinese students have complained that students from minority groups receive favourable treatment at the high school final exams, as they get extra points because they belong to a minority group, giving them an advantage to get admitted to their university of preference.
Also, I have travelled to the northwestern part, as it is the hometown of my girlfriend. There are many muslims there and they have their mosques. They are free to practice their religion. But there have been a lot of terrorist attacks there from islamic extremists, killing a lot of innocent people, and they need to be suppressed. Otherwise war might erupt. Terrorists are not followers of another religion.
I live in the southeast part I was surprised to see that there are quite a few Christians and churches here as well. Some of my colleagues and students are Christians.

Chinese President Xi Jinping gave a nice speech in Switzerland at the WEF this week. You should check it out.
Unlike the USA, that has been continuously waging numerous wars all over the globe, as far as I know China is mainly trying to grow its economy and cooperate with other countries, instead of bully them.
The westerners should finally stop sticking their nose to other countries affairs and tell them how to run their country, what is right and what is wrong, or that they should adopt democracy because it is the best system. In many so-called "democratic countries" there is no real democracy anyway.
I came to China last year for work, and while I can't say I enjoy the lifestyle here, people are friendly, peaceful and seem quite satisfied from the fact that their life has improved dramatically over the last decades.
I hope that China's global influence grows even stronger, we might actually see a better, more peaceful world.

I don't get it. I found this album pretty terrible. Didn't enjoy a single track. I can't believe the ridiculous prices I saw on Discogs and that so many people like it. I wouldn't take the CD even if someone gave it to me for free! Not joking. Well, each one to his own taste I guess.
-
Well, I can't share most folks' excitement about this CD. I usually don't like samples (at least extensive or over repeating ones) and some of the tracks are ruined by them (Expert on Humans, Holocron).
BUT the sample in Kapala is fkn hilarious and the track is great, my favourite here!
E-Mantra is good too (typical E-Mantra sound) and New Born is alright. The rest don't do for me; they're not bad tracks, just not my cup of tea. Some tracks lack focus which makes it hard for me to follow till the end and I lose interest. Especially Goat Man and Synthesized Not Yet, are too long and fail to grab my attention, no matter how many times I've listened to them.
Actually I like People Walk Funny much better!! (maybe I'm the only one)
Just my two cents.

This is really enchanting... So beautiful!

Mind Rewind
in 2011
CD1 is awesome! Salt Lake, Ganymede, Friends From Tau-Ceti, Shadow Dance, Caught In The Zipper & Two Faces are great. I particularly enjoy the rawness in Friends From Tau-Ceti. So many of Doof's alternative mixes have been released, which I find superfluous. Doof is great but I'm not interested in listening all those inferior mixes.
CD2 left me a bit disappointed, since CD1 is fantastic and I expected a bit more. Here I enjoyed Rain, Sound Is Solid and The Great Bear. The Full Monty is too long and uninteresting, it left me bored.
So CD1 is fantastic, CD2 is just ok for me. A great effort all in all, and, let's not forget, for a great cause.

The trajectory of Goa trance
in General Psytrance

OK, the truth is that DJSunborn put it in an arrogant and patronizing way, but I would like to focus more on my points, which I think are worth reflecting on.
If that's your style, end of story. Of course you don't need to make your music slower!
The point is: the scarcity of lower bpm tracks indicates too much homogeneity and the lack of variation in the genre, which cannot be a good thing. Goa trance, unlike other styles, is NOT bpm-dependent.
Label owners should be blamed more than artists for brickwall mastering, for sure. But the artists, if they do care, can also do sth about it. It's THEIR music after all. As far as I know, (almost?) nobody's financial survival depends on producing goa trance. It is a hobby/creative activity that fulfils you (the artist) and that may allow you to have an extra income occasionally. That's how it is. If artists were primarily interested in making money, they wouldn't devote so much of their time in making this type of music. So, if you REALLY care (and you think your music is good enough), you should not allow others to dictate how to master your music. If I remember correctly, Dragon Twins had demanded dynamic mastering in the past. And also, some labels do care about it
(e.g. Cronomi).
