  1. I am pleased to offer my latest mix, Interconnected, to fellow psy travellers across the universe! Part one of a two part set, the two mixes can be played separately or joined to create a master session nearly three hours in total length. Part two arrives July 15. Thanks for listening! -Hugh http://dj.beatport.com/hughsharpe
  2. Wow, thanks for the memories! That was back in '08, I think. There are still photos of the event on the web, actually. As for the podcast, I would love to. I just need to learn how to do it. The one thing I worry about with Apple is licensing legalistics. I don't know how strict they are with DJ mixes, especially if a song in the mix is not available on their itunes store. For now, you can also find my mixes on a site called house-mixes.com. They don't have any file posting restrictions, so right now there are three mixes including May 2012 available on there. http://www.house-mixes.com/profile/hughsharpe In order to download a mix, you need to join the site, but all they ask for is a confirmation email address. There's virtually no spam or promotional email from the site, so I think it's a good trade-off. I'm quite pleased with this site and think it's a good alternative to SoundCloud with certain distinct advantages, no size limitation being one of the most significant. Anyway, let me look into the logistics of podcasting and if it looks feasible, I'll do it. Cheers, -Hugh
  3. Greetings, sonic space travellers! I would like to humbly share with you my newest mix, available now on SoundCloud for stream or download. I recommend the download-- it's a juicy 320kb mp3 that sounds so much better than the compressed stream. It's entitled simply, May 2012, and it's 83-minutes of new full-on psy including two unreleased tracks available here exclusively. Tracklist: Phony Orphants - Playground [Atmos remix] Gleb Gold & Evgeny - Vertag [James Monro remix] Eitan Carmi & DJ Ta-Ka - Isolated Even 11 - Particles In Space [blue Planet Corporation remix] Tegma - Just Do It Mind Warped & Hugh Sharpe - Nailed Down Motion Drive - Awaken [Midimal remix] Neelix - Expect What? Ritmo - Declare [Ovnimoon remix] Ritmo & Motion Drive - Big Eyes Mind Warped & Hugh Sharpe - Sonic Tectonic Impact & Space Hypnose - The Sound Of Thunder http://soundcloud.com/hugh-sharpe/may-2012 It will only be up for two more weeks then replaced by a new monthly installment, so get it before it's gone. I hope you give it a listen and if you have a chance, please leave a message on the site, drop me some love or at least let me know where you're tuning in from! Love and light, -Hugh
  4. 1997 is now back on PsyTunes. Enjoy! -Hugh
  5. Sure thing-- I'll re-upload 1997 today.
  6. I've posted yet another part of my 10-part chronological mix series on PsyTunes despite the fact that the site has been hacked twice in the past month. This set brings together some of my most favorite tracks from the calendar year 1998. Some breaky stuff, some full-on, a few quirky and rare odds and ends, and quite a bit of that raw German sound that the kids were into back then. Presented in two parts as 256kbps mp3s, the set can be downloaded or streamed live from the site. To download, click on the little disc icon next to the set you want and a download prompt will appear. To stream the mix, select the file by clicking in the box beside its name, then click on 'selected' in the Play Control section at the bottom of the page. Get to it before the hackers. 7. Thank you for your enthusiasm about this little project of mine-- I'm really glad that you are digging these classic tunes! My goal is to complete the series through 2004/2005, which will be a full decade of music and total about a full day's worth of mixed psy trance listening. I have sets completed through 2000 so far, am compiling 2001 right now, and hope to have all the mixes done by the end of the year. It may take a bit longer as this project has already grown beyond its original scope. The initial plan was to make these mixes a single CD in length, but by 1996 I realized I would be leaving out way too many favorites to make the series worthwhile. I have always felt that 80 minutes isn't enough time to go anyplace interesting in a mix, anyway, so I expanded each mix to 2 discs in length. It gives me a lot more elbow room, but it has made the selection process double in size and a bit more time consuming. I wanted the mixes to include some hard-to-find vinyl tracks as well as the big floor-fillers that are more widely recognized and commercially available, while also trying to include as many artists and labels as possible across the series. You'll eventually discover, though, that I have certain preferences in sound resulting in some artists appearing repeatedly across the series. At some point my subjectivity was bound to show through, but what do you expect from a DJ. In fact, nearly every track on here serves as a reference point to amazing events and people who have made my first decade in this music so enjoyable. For instance, 'High Energy Protons' is the track that got me hooked on this music way back in 1994 and that first Juno Reactor album is what compelled me to buy 1200s and a mixer and start scouring the record shops to find more music like it-- the very first steps of this long, twisted journey. So I just had to kick the series off with this track. 'We're going to have a wonderful trip'. Indeed. So many of the very first records I picked up when I was first teaching myself to beatmatch appear on 1995 ['Tribute', 'Solar Energy'...]. If you were lucky enough to attend the first US Return To The Source party back in August 1996, you'd have been first witness to the effectiveness of 'Shitty Stick' as Tsuyoshi Suzuki closed the party with this track-- tearing the roof off NJ's Liberty Science Center and exposing a whole generation of ravers to one of psychedelic trance's legendary tunes. The effect of the final build on the audience was incredible and when I found it on Flying Rhino's First Flight a couple months later it became a key weapon in my arsenal, as well. These mixes are dedicated to the amazing artists and labels featured within and to every last one of you who has offered me support by way of bookings, word of mouth promotion, or--more importantly-- on the dance floor with your feet. As much as everything mentioned above, I want these mixes to work as mixes-- to keep things interesting, to change directions now and again, to get funky, breaky, or even housey as the case may be, but to always keep it completely psychedelic and to follow a logical progression from start to finish. In the end, you all are the only ones that can decide if this has been achieved. Your comments, Synogen, are certainly encouraging. Anyway, enough outta me! Here are the tracklists for the first three sets. From now on, when I post that the next mix is up, I'll include the tracklist for it. 8. I just added 1997 to PsyTunes for downloading and streaming. Click on the disc icon left of the mix title you want to download to bring up the prompt that asks you where to download the file. To play the mix as a stream, check the box next to it and go to 'play control' at the bottom of the page to start the stream. Enjoy! -Hugh
  9. Hey, Basilisk. Thanks for the note! Om 2001 was one of my all-time favorite events- one that leaves me with warm memories to this day. It's great to see you on here and that you're still actively bringing the tunes to the people. I downloaded your lastest mix last night and look forward to listening to it tonight. From the tracks and artists you list, it seems like our tastes are very much convergent. Thanks again for writing. I'll be in touch more later. Regards, -Hugh
  10. Howdy, Trolsk. Yup, I'm that same hugh sharpe from NY from the mixtape you've got. I was one of the original members of Kairon's 604 list but left a few years ago when the flame/fact ratio got out of control. You'll probably find some of the same tracks on the mixtape appear on these first two mixes, but hopefully you'll hear a lot of other old favorites, too. Hope you enjoy them and I'll post more years in the next couple of weeks. Cheers, -hugh
  11. You're welcome! I hope you like them. I'll put more mixes from this series up in the upcoming weeks. As a newcomer to both here and PsyTunes, I didn't want to pile too many onto the server at once and dilute the offering or wear out my welcome. I was originally only going to put up 1995, but added 1996 when I realized I got the id3 tags wrong on 1995 and it didn't have my name anywhere associated with it. Also, I found out that the PsyTunes is already equipped for its users to download the mixes. To the left of each mix title is a little disc icon which, when clicked, prompts the download and asks for a location to save the file. What an excellent resource. Cheers and thanks for listening! -Hugh
  12. D'oh. sorry for the goof up with the link-- thought I could use straight up html for it. Anyway here it is- PsyTunes Cheers, -Hugh
  13. To celebrate my first decade behind the decks [and just to see if I could actually do it], last November I decided to put together ten brand new mixes where each mix would be dedicated to my favorite tracks released from a particular year in my career. On Psy Tunes right now are the first two mixes in this series, entitled simply '1995' and '1996'. Each one is presented in 256 kbps mp3 in two parts. Go to <A HREF="http://www.psytunes.info/index.php">PsyTunes.info</A> to stream them from the list. '1995' is at the top of the list because I didn't realize that I needed to put my name in the track title field of the id3 tag. '1996' is listed properly as 'Hugh Sharpe- 1996' about halfway down the page. I'm not sure if there's a way to download these streams for personal use later but I'd have to guess that with the kids these days the technology's got to be out there somewhere. At any rate, I hope that some of you check these out and enjoy what you hear. If this service works out well, I'll put more mixes from the series up for review down the road. Colin OOOD, if you're out there, please check out 1996. I think you'll recognize some tunes of yer own in there. Happy listening! -Hugh
